Having lived in the North my entire life;I'm hoping and praying for you. No matter where you live, move, buy property;Water is your No.1 priority. A whole lot of thought should have went in before you ever built a 2-story dwelling in the bush. The upper floor will never be warm in winter or cool in summer. Best of Luck. Listen to anyone in your area who has lived there a longtime for solid advice.
This is a stick built house in the middle of the woods.
12" logs have a R-48 value. You used 2x4 for exterior walls? Your able to fit what R-19 in your exterior walls...... Sure you can cram r-30 in the area's but the insulation loses it's properties when you do that.
Re-Title the video. Our stick frame home that's going to be VERY cold in Alaska.
Neat, I love it. I wish I could live in Alaska, although Im not sure about the no plumbing situation. Yikes. Cold nights, Id never want to get out of bed.
@greenwormsoup I guess since you've been there a year you now know if there is moose and bear there, they also have deer. Probably mule deer. How have your northern experiences been? All good I hope. Are you living there year round or only during the summer months?
Hello my Native Family. I love log cabins, I hink they are devine. would you believe I am from NC, and my parent was half Native American. I have left there 20 some years and I kind of miss the rustic life. I am now in NJ and wich I could live an area like Alaska in a cabin. Was it easy getting the land and cabin? Money is kind of hard these days, and I was wondering aboutthe red tape of doing this.
You should get a wood burning stove that goes in the kitchen so that you have more space in your living room and heat rising to your beds.

Definately moose tracks friend. No deer in this part of Alaska, just lots of moose and a few bear.
