Buck truly is the best guitarist that ever lived. Comparing him to Clapton is like comparing apples to oranges. Totally different styles. But Buck could still blow Clapton off the stage even when he was in Cream. 'Nuff said. actionjaxon5150
I've always thought this:Take any one solo from Clapton and it sounds great but after about ten minutes I feel like I've heard everything he can possibly say and that he always plays to a steady groove whereas Buck's solos have to match a variety of styles within a very large pop idiom.
12-04-2011 Unkle Buck been crumplin' that mighty stel ever since dirt was new.I only wish I had the walls & walls of equipment I used to have - honoring the above studio-time deployment with at least 3/4 horsepower per channel stereo. I will be anxiously awaiting Unkle Bucks' next anticipated studio-time initiative here on YouTube.
@apple162 The song is "mirrors" from the album of the same name. It came out in 1979 I do believe. So the concert footage is from the same time period roughly.
I would never even consider putting these two guitarists up against each other. Could you imagine Eric Clapton playing guitar on The Red and The Black? They are both outstanding. Buck has just got the short end of the deal publicity speaking. I have never understood that.
Who would be better to put in the same genre of guitarists as Buck Dharma? That's a good question. Maybe Neal Schon? Alex Lifeson? No one really plays like Dharma, Buck and BOC are very unique.
Clapton is a legend, not technically, but generally, great player, very emotional playing, great singer, great blues man. Buck is a reat rock guitarist that's right
I think Buck is better than Clapton. I used to be a huge E.C. fan because he was the first classic rock musician I ever heard. But I've listened to many many more since then, and I've come to consider Clapton as somewhat of a dabbler. He never really nailed down the blues like Peter Green or rock like Hendrix and many others.
So yeah, Buck is technically superior and some of his riffs are unforgettable.
I'm not sure we can say one guitarist is better than the other. I definitely think that Buck Dharma has been overlooked for many years. The reason why is that BOC was considered a metal band, for the most part, so you'll lose a lot of votes from the mainstream based on that alone.
In this clip Buck is playing a bit sloppy at times, but is a capable of playing faster probably. Any guitar player where you know it's them playing separate themselves from others. Schenker, too.
@Bojoe777NaBl Theres 100 people who think buck dharma is god, Put both of them on a stage a your local night club and see who is god. And micheal schenker c'mon man he had a few good licks in the late 70's, where is he now, he plays to a 1000 people at best. Clapton has sold out 25,000 seat venues for the last 40 odd years, Thats a rock God.
@Bojoe777NaBl Hey brother,Schenker is great and I have every U.F.O. cd/album ever made, but there is a reason U.F.O. opened the shows for B.O.C. at some of their gigs in the late 70's. I saw them together at the L.A. forum in '78 I think it was. Schenker blazed but Buck was doing this when Schenker was still in diapers. Give the master his due. Actionjaxon5150
are you KIDDING me? I thought this would be a guitar duel on stage... the SAME stage. Didn't realize they were clips from different DECADES! C'mon... pick a solo with Buck on the Cheeseberger guitar, sometime in the late '90s or early this decade when the Clapton vid was shot, not some stoned-out crapquality 70's show. Buck kicks Clapton for SPEED, PRECISION, EXPRESSION, and TECHNIQUE. Always has, always will. See, that's the deal he made......

Of these two solos, Clapton.
Of the two guitarists, probably Dharma.
AlbertMondback 2 years ago
well i have never heard of buck dharma before, but for me he is just making a wall of sound, not really well structured.
But if you're going by speed this one is compared to THIS Clapton solo better.

Buck Dharma wins, obviously.

BOC FOREVER!!!
nucleardude11 2 years ago
They are the best sounding American classic rock act of the '70's and quite possibly even beyond.
Drizzlerman 2 years ago
they were good in the 80s, they had mega hits like shooting shark and burning for you
nucleardude11 2 years ago
True, but I feel none of that material quite measures up to what they did in the 70's.
