put my feeders out and had my first female hummer this afternoon! she left with a beakful or dryer lint i left laying under the feeder for her to build a nest with..will have baby hummers soon!
I didn't even know we had them in Mich, Jeremy told me that he saw one, and I told him he was crazy, then like a week later, me and the hubby were out back having coffee and we seen them too, I had no clue they were even in Mich. But I love them so much!!
I had no idea either. The first time I heard one near me my instinct was to start swatting and run. They will come and feed while I'm standing out there filling things. Even though I know what the sound is now I still have some anxiety about a flying thing making that noise with a 2 inch needle sticking out of its head.
I can't believe you're just now getting to this one. Go watch Random Pics From June 08 before they kill it for music copyright.
LOL I will do that right now. I watch everyone's old stuff now and then a few at a time. Helps me catch up on what people are talking about sometimes in their vids.
I get very anxious because somewhere I think the bees have a wanted poster up with my picture on it as I can't tell you how many times I've been stung or at least chased. People say the bees like me....are they kidding? They will die to hurt me...they hate me! LOL
Hey that is the first time I have ever heard that!! I love it! My mom and dad have a hummingbird feeder but I always watch them thru the window- so I have never heard the humm. WOW cool!-Jamie
Yup, it's intense. They are very brave and the first time I heard it I was looking around for a huge mutant wasp/bee. They make little squeaky chirps too. I hear that all over the yard but I don't see them all.
You're welcome Josh. I never saw them until I moved here. This year I put up the feeder and they came around a lot. I was amazed by them and put a camera out there. There are 2 couples now. I'm hoping that turns into a small flock.
Hmmm...I've seen the feeders at the store but I was like, "I've never seen them in my area." But they look pretty cute, so I might try it anyway. I mean...why would they have the feeders if there weren't some somewhere near me. LOL. I don't know. *shrugs* If all else fails I can steal some from you. ;-)
The ones in this video were 97 cents at Walmart. They were almost perfect. They didn't hold a lot cause the food goes bad in a week especially when its warmer out. And they would never finish what that one holds. The only bad thing is there was no perch for them to land on. They had to feed flying. I added a perch with a coat hanger and hot glue. But since then I upgraded? Check out my "Bird Feeding Station" vid. Just don't get taken in by the larger containers. They're over kill.
Thanks. There's at least 4 that are regular visitors now. 2 "couples". I had to spread the feeders out. They were having aerial sword fights. They have gotten to the point where they will drink from the feeder while its in my hand before I can hang it back up. In the bright sun they're like flying Christmas tree ornaments.
hahahaha Well no wonder! I was wondering how could such a tiny little guy sound so incredibly loud, but then I remembered back to the first video and thinking the same thing.
I have a neighbor boy (I could go on about him for days, ranting) who is superfixated with his motor bike lately, and now that school is out, it is going to get on the last nerve. That thing is so incredibly loud and he enjoys coming down our side of the street to rev it up. I think his parents tell him to go away ;)
And that's why he comes down our side of the street. One day I was driving the back road and he and two of his buddies were driving along (super fast) to go to the open fields (which happens to be private owned farm lands). All I could think is "please, God, let the farm people call the cops!" ;)

Wait til one sneaks up behind you and you forget the noise they make. You'll be running across the yard screaming BEES BEES like I did. :)

LOL @ sounding like a freaking ATV. It totally did. WOODPECKER! Wow, he was kinda bleeting around the 2:30 mark. They are freaking amazing!
silverscreamgrl 3 years ago
That really was an ATV. The neighbor kids ride them up and down the street whenever they get a chance. It might be getting close to cop calling time.
