Had the privillege of meeting Paul back in the late eighties when he used to play in Georges bistro and Malhide Castle......always a gent and this is his best song by far!
Actually Harrington's original version released back in 1990? maybe a little earlier is the best better than EarlThomas Conley or Gary Allan's. Sean devit played the drums and there is a string section. Harringtonj is an expert with strings. Check out ' I told you once' on the same album, sublime.
Such a noble profile, what a voice and the fingers. harrington rocks as always. who is the drummer.? He is good but Sean Devit, the usual guy is so so much better. Devit is the best drummer in Ireland. Get him back Paul.
It's a close one in fairness between ETC and PH versions. The music/string arrangment in PH defintely adds to the song. There is a stronger emphasis/clarity on the words and meaning in the ETC version. It's an amazing piece of work.
Anyone who has ever had a broken heart will relate to this song. Paul sings it better than than anyone else. I love you Paul xx

Question time.
1 Did kyron Bourke play harmonica on Saved the track on which you played the tuba?
2 Confirm that you were a singing waiter in Harry's Bar.

He didn't write them. That was Earl Thomas Conley.

does anyone know if paul writes for other bands to perform? has anyone done a cover of 'what i'd say'?
abrowne1975 3 years ago
Pauls version is a cover of Gary Allan"s song
sadtaximan 3 years ago
Gary Allan's song is a cover of Earl Thomas Conley's song. ETC's version DESTROYS all the rest. Period.
