  • Great turbo sound!

  • @OCASSROCK it's got a 2 stroke engine, so the white smoke may just be a result of the engine simply being cold.

  • is the sudden discharge of white smoke a result of the primer being burnt off?

  • love the turbo whine

  • Love It! A rear heard startup of an EMD. In Grand Junction Colorado, (and I have been watching those parked in the BNSF yard)... the leave them at winter idle. They never shutdown automaticly. The SD40 usually attatched to the SD70 doesnt shut down automaticly either. Thanks for showing me a power up. I watched repeatedly.

  • Not a diesel lover but that sounded cool.

  • Yesss...

  • The heartbeat of America.

  • The "Yinging" noise you can hear is the generator / alternator

  • @ACTractionLTD no, its the turbo.

  • Love that 710 whine

  • I love the sound of high rpm idle from a EMD 710.. Btw the Class 66 locomotive uses the same engine as this locomotive

  • the 710 is actually the most favored prime mover for freight railways AND the only thing that can help a locomotive haul up to 16 bilevel cars for commuters (10 for 12 cyl, 12 cars can be hauled by 16 cyl, and 20V710s can do 16. WE ARE TALKING FULLY LOADED WITH PPL!!!)

  • isn't it bad to rev the engine right after it's started?

  • @jerry91a I don't think so. In fact, I think the engine does it by itself.

  • @jerry91a no because its building up air pressure for the engine control, and braking :)

  • @ACTractionLTD Ok makes sense i thinking from an automotive stand point thanks for the info :)

  • look up sd70m startup and click on the UP one

  • holly shit , it's a monster:)) but i love it:>

  • Great video of a great engine.

Does this sound familiar: watch?v=yO7FkyO5uJY ? (paste the code after youtube dot com and a slash. If I put the full link it might be censored as spam)

It's only half of this one, a 8v-710G3 but it shows that EMD 710 are everywhere, even in far away Eastern Europe ;-)

  • What's the range on one of those locomotives?

  • Class 66!!!

  • @HSTHoward downrated version ;)

  • @HSTHoward class 66 a defnit

  • hehe, thats a downrated version of the BR Class 66

  • @55022RSG aye it does sound like a shed matey

  • @55022RSG Down rated?? SD70M= 4300HP, 163'000 lb starting tractive effort.

A mans engine, not a lads engine lol.

  • outstanding !

  • Wow, I love that power of Sd70m. At 1:10, it sounds like a tornado siren toning down. That's a kick ass power of that old loco

  • @NYCTAFreak500 sounds more like a Class 66

  • cool sound dident no they beep before startup or is what they have to do but cool video

  • Its equipped with an Auto-start. Horn is to warn that the prime mover will be starting up.

  • @dodgeramb59 ..so get your hand out of the valve train!!!!

  • @dodgeramb59 wow really???? i tought that cas a car horn :/

  • Is it automated startup, given the siren at the beginning?

  • LOVE IT!

  • Excellent startup! Love that wisp of white smoke and that classic EMD 710 revving! MOAR! XD
