@INSANESUICIDE Or any person interested in military history. I know them from history classes. And they are to assemble as the KV 5. But they have a different name here and got a bit more weapons ^^
@crysiserfan22 It's part of the Warhammer40k series. The Death Korps of Kreig use gas masks because the planet they are from which is called Kreig, has been bombed with so much nuclear weapons that the surface of there planet is unsurvivable without gas masks. And a side note; the Death Korps are the most badass out of all the Imperial Guard (which is what the Death Korps are from).
@BloodEviscerator In fact, the nuclear weapons is an excuse to keep the mask. True reason is that they are clone. Cloning is forbidden in the Empire; therefore they prefer to conceal it, even if they got an imperial derogation.
@Geroaergaroe Where did you get those facts? Since they even move their masks to eat and when preparing their gear they dont conceal their faces.
I know that they have facilities where they breed only for war. The women born are choosen in the age of 13 wether they are to be assigned for war or giving birth to more soldiers. The korps serves the emperor in alls ways to ask for forgiveness for their stupidity so I dont think they would clone. The emperor sees them.
@gurtznak They have a secret dispensation from the Inquisition. They are allowed to clone in limited numbers to keep up their forces, so long as it remains a secret.
@gurtznak My mistake. It doesn't say 'cloning'. It says 'Vitae Womb'. So I may be wrong about this. Anyone know what the Vitae Womb is? Besides Heresy?
@stressfear I think it is the thing I was talking about. Women in an collective/facility that is only used for mass production of soldiers. This is decided early on based on genetics and body. I dont think that the imperium sees this as wrong but a bit odd. Since they are pushing out soldiers.
@gurtznak But would they need special dispensation from the Inquisition just for breeding facilities? And Vitae translates from Latin to Blood. Blood womb? I'm not sure those a breeding facilities. They sound like rape camps.
@stressfear That is how I imagine it to be. I have read black library book and some lexicanium and Forge world books about them. And I know they at least use women but how they use them I am not sure of.
@lorddziub He may not know about the world, but it would be silly to assume that the Death Korps' appearance aren't at all based off of the German soldiers of WW1 and WW2.
Die Imperialen sind vom aussehen und vom gameplay einfach nur die geilsten die haben so ne mischung zwischen 2.weltkrieg und zukunft einfach nur perfekt...
Germans militars was the best dressed soldiers in al the history of mankind, maby they where crazy, maby they has wierd ideas on the head, but you cant deny.
@Wefer990 Perhaps. But you CAN deny that they were based entirely on German soldiers.
Granted, the helmets and skull motifs bear a strong resemblance.
The coats are distinctly French, however; modeled after the `Horizon Blue` overcoat introduced in 1915. The gas masks are more akin to Belgian models.
And the design of their lasguns has a very distinctive British feel; aside from the Enfield-esque aesthetic they trade rate of fire for single-shot stopping power.
@Wefer990 Yes, their suites were badass, too bad you can´t dress nothing remotely similar today without being being accused of being a racist... and not all the German military were murderous crazy son of a bitches, a few of them were honorable soldiers caught on the madness of the time, other Germans like the bastard Hugo Boss who provided some of the mentioned awesome uniforms used slave labor and profited from the war, for me those jerks were way more guilty than most soldiers
@Covertmaddroxx1 Mine was a joke about how commander Boreale says "emperor" as "EMPRAH" due to his accent, and is often mocked by wh40k fans. Aaaaand the weapon is called a "rocket propelled grenade": the actual rocket is below the explosive warhead and you can't see it in the picture.
@1337soldiahs I know what an RPG is. its a bad idea to try and test my knowledge of Small Arms, and light shoulder fired anti-tank weapons. And i know its funny, I used to play wh40 but never really got into it. Im a C&C Red Alert fan. Just noticing how someone made a bad observation. and corrected it. But on a real RPG you wouldnt Dare mark on the explosive cone of an RPG. Unless you wanna see if you get 72 virgins in the afterlife.
@Covertmaddroxx1 Sorry bud, but that really looks like a rocket-propelled grenade, not a rocket.
And you know, given the cone shape of it I guess it was modelled after the anti-tank variant of the RPG-7's rounds, so the top part of the cone is hollow. The explosive is at the bottom, for it has to propel molten copper through armor (look up "shaped charge"). So yeah, scribbling on it is fine.
@Acecombatfighter Yes. The Death Korp of Krieg is an Imperial Guard regiment recruited from the planet Krieg. 1500 years before the current 40k time period, a rebellion for independance from the emperor began. But the loyalists wouldn't let that happen. The planet was the plunged in nuclear warfare, and the surface of the planet quickly deteriorated, leaving nothing but an arid crust with a few radioactive marshes. and so the population of Krieg remained underground...
How is it bad? I thought the ending was what made it so sad. The last 10 pages were killing me. It made you feel how war changes a person into a a soldier. At least the man died "He became a hero."
Krieg destroyed itself with nuclear fire, and the survivors were driven underground. In their contrition, Death Korps troopers show nearly suicidal bravery and valor beyond compare. When all seems lost, when victory stands upon the edge of a knife, when the lives of billions hang by but a single thread, call upon the Korps. They WILL Hold the Line.
@barcod11 As a certain Hero of the Imperium put it, they figure that by that time, everyone who hasn't evacuated the area is either dead, or a heretic. If it's the former, the Kriegers don't worry about it. If it's the latter...they soon learn the error of their ways. Via Earthshaker round.
Never paid much attention to the IG, but are the Death Korps pretty much what the Waffen SS was to the Wehrmacht? If so, awesome, good on em, need more of these guys in the IG.

Don't know if it's because of devotion to the Emperor or fear for their own Commisars though lol
@bigmike93ATX Easy to answer, their planet has been ruined by nuclear warfare for 300ish years i think it was. They are litterally born with a gasmask :p
@Beaviz81 umm what? 1933? The German language is originally a dialect of Old Saxon. The earliest testimonies are from the 6th century. When Martin Luther translated the bible in 1522 is was based on Saxon and had influence of the German Language. In 1800 there was a standard German but only written. in 1852 and 1860 brothers Grimm brought out a German dictionary which was defined as the standard German language in 1901. In 1996 they had a German spelling reform.
@Beaviz81 I guess you just tried to point out to our professor Chaos that the Death Korps has nothing to do with space nazi's. You'd have done better in saying Nazi Germany only existed from 1933-1945 and Krieg is from way before that and that their uniforms, weapons, use of gasmasks and the trench wars they're in all point out to the first World War when they were still known as the German Empire.
Yep it was a point way over the top as I pointed out the ridiculousness in his statement.
I hammered home that Krieg is Germany in 1916 not 1933-45. As far as German, well Germanic is a very large class of languages, and that tend to take at least a few hundred years to develop.
@Beaviz81 Well I find it a tad funny actually. Death Korps of Kriege resembles the German soldier in WW I, their Commissars resemble the Gestapo from WW II and before but the Commissars way is based on the Russian Kommissar from WW II. I think the Death Korps of Krieg has one of the most obvious references to actual wars.
No it's the SS-uniform they are wearing, black peaked cap with skull, black garb and nice jacket. The Gestapo was the limping men with long coats made of leather, at least according to Allo, Allo.. :)
Indeed the Kriegsmen is the Grimdark version of the men from Armageddon who I think is the French of the WWI in WH40K. It's odd, France was much worse off than Germany during WWI, though I'd rather live on Armageddon than on Krieg.
@Beaviz81 Infact the Uniforms of the Armageddon Steel Legion are pretty close to German WWI Uniforms with a WWII Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) Helmet. Even their Lightning Insignia is very close. Also they favour mechanized Warfare more then the Krieg's Siege Tactics. Think Blitzkrieg vs Trench warfare.
The Krieg troopers however are more of a French WWI style.
You are spot on with the commissars. They are essentially soviet political officers in SS garb.
@Fenris86 I partly disagree that the Krieg troopers are more dedicated to the French Army of WW1. One may say that the more elite units of the Death Korps have a closer attire to the French Army (especially the blue uniform) whereas the regulars all wear dark grey uniforms with helmets more closely resembling the Stahlhelm. Plus, their trench-warfare and siege tactics are something the real Imperial German Army were dedicated toward to (apparently French trenches were structurally inferior).
@Beaviz81 It wasn't just the depth either - the Germans built their trenches as if they actually intended to permanently stay in them - the underground rooms were reinforced with concrete and they had relatively comfy rooms and facilities etc. They did after all, fight on the defense than the offense more than the British and French - who thought that trenches were only temporary measures and therefore didn't bother with any real serious planning in detailed construction.
@Beaviz81 Depends, the Steel Legions seem to field two distinct type of helmets - the officers wear helmets combined of the Stahlhelm and the Adrian helmet whereas the regulars wear those more closely resembling the Fallschirmjagers (weapon-wise, the legions also carry more advanced weapons, just like the German paras did). Uniform-wise, they resemble more the British infantry of WW1 (specifically, 1914) than the French Foreign Legion, but that's my opinion.
@Beaviz81 I was strictly referring to the uniforms, not the gas masks. The yellow coats are partly based off from what British infantry wore in 1914 (specifically, the 1914 Utility Tunic).
Maybe, well as I'm told GW generally tossed things from WWI into a pot, mixed it, then released it. So it's sort of color-coded for your convenience. I still stand on my feeling about Armageddon being French and Krieg German.
@Beaviz81 I am going from the distinct masks with hoses, which are similiar to the ones the allies used and the buttoned back greatcoat and wrappings over the boots, which were typically french.
But their creation process probably went like this: Put everything that is iconic for WWI in a pot, heat slowly sprinkle with a teaspoon WWII german stuff, then sculpt it into minis.
The Armageddon looking like foreign legion is new to me, but that seems interesting. I'll research that.
Krieg and Armageddon is the same models, just with different color. I just think Armageddon is French due to that planet being ravaged, while Krieg is the fatalistic Germans of 1916.
I just feel that way, but then again with the models everything can go. Though to make a French soldier without the gas-mask is to take a heavily moustachioed model as poulou means bearded or hairy one.
Our penance lasts even after the 500 years of nuclear ablitaration! We are the sons of Titan we are the Death Korps! The Cadians are weak to the sights that make us strong! The tanith shows no form of discipline! The tallarn are a bunch of desert raiders, and the vostroyan are pretty boys! For Titan for the Death Korps for the immortal god emporer! @GB90001 Some would say more loyal than the next SM army. They are the only army that Commissars get shot due to disobedience.

Yeah the German language was invented in 1933. If anything the Korps of Krieg is Germany in 1916-17.
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 umm what? 1933? The German language is originally a dialect of Old Saxon. The earliest testimonies are from the 6th century. When Martin Luther translated the bible in 1522 is was based on Saxon and had influence of the German Language. In 1800 there was a standard German but only written. in 1852 and 1860 brothers Grimm brought out a German dictionary which was defined as the standard German language in 1901. In 1996 they had a German spelling reform.
darkjester53 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 I guess you just tried to point out to our professor Chaos that the Death Korps has nothing to do with space nazi's. You'd have done better in saying Nazi Germany only existed from 1933-1945 and Krieg is from way before that and that their uniforms, weapons, use of gasmasks and the trench wars they're in all point out to the first World War when they were still known as the German Empire.
darkjester53 2 months ago
@darkjester53
Yep it was a point way over the top as I pointed out the ridiculousness in his statement.
I hammered home that Krieg is Germany in 1916 not 1933-45. As far as German, well Germanic is a very large class of languages, and that tend to take at least a few hundred years to develop.
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 Ah, appologies, sarcasm is always harder to notice in text :)
Either way, humanity can sleep safe tonight for the Death Korps stand guard. For the emperor!

@darkjester53
No need to apologize, I forgot to add some smileys as the ChaosProfeessor seemed so damn ignorant.
If anyone is putting on the Reich it's the Commissars. Dress up like one in Germany and you would likely be arrested.
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 Well I find it a tad funny actually. Death Korps of Kriege resembles the German soldier in WW I, their Commissars resemble the Gestapo from WW II and before but the Commissars way is based on the Russian Kommissar from WW II. I think the Death Korps of Krieg has one of the most obvious references to actual wars.
darkjester53 2 months ago
@darkjester53
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 Infact the Uniforms of the Armageddon Steel Legion are pretty close to German WWI Uniforms with a WWII Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) Helmet. Even their Lightning Insignia is very close. Also they favour mechanized Warfare more then the Krieg's Siege Tactics. Think Blitzkrieg vs Trench warfare.
The Krieg troopers however are more of a French WWI style.
You are spot on with the commissars. They are essentially soviet political officers in SS garb.
Allo Allo is awesome btw!
Fenris86 2 months ago
@Fenris86 I partly disagree that the Krieg troopers are more dedicated to the French Army of WW1. One may say that the more elite units of the Death Korps have a closer attire to the French Army (especially the blue uniform) whereas the regulars all wear dark grey uniforms with helmets more closely resembling the Stahlhelm. Plus, their trench-warfare and siege tactics are something the real Imperial German Army were dedicated toward to (apparently French trenches were structurally inferior).
SuperBomber01 2 months ago
@SuperBomber01
You are spot on, and for the trenches the Germans dug in over three meters, while the French and British only dug in for like a little over 2 meters.
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 It wasn't just the depth either - the Germans built their trenches as if they actually intended to permanently stay in them - the underground rooms were reinforced with concrete and they had relatively comfy rooms and facilities etc. They did after all, fight on the defense than the offense more than the British and French - who thought that trenches were only temporary measures and therefore didn't bother with any real serious planning in detailed construction.
SuperBomber01 2 months ago
@Fenris86
The Armageddon is basically the Foreign Legion during WWI.
The helmet is a mix between French and German design. But I think the Krieg is more Germany anno 1916 than anything else.
Of course, if in doubt Google Lemmy and SS-uniform.
Allo Allo, Keeping up appearances, Fawlthy Towers are proof that the Brits are the master of comedy.
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 Depends, the Steel Legions seem to field two distinct type of helmets - the officers wear helmets combined of the Stahlhelm and the Adrian helmet whereas the regulars wear those more closely resembling the Fallschirmjagers (weapon-wise, the legions also carry more advanced weapons, just like the German paras did). Uniform-wise, they resemble more the British infantry of WW1 (specifically, 1914) than the French Foreign Legion, but that's my opinion.
SuperBomber01 2 months ago
@SuperBomber01
The British in 1914 didn't have gas-masks. Also no, Civilization 3 has the Infantry which basically is the British Tommy Atkins.
I just feel that way, but I admit pictures in reliable color from WWI is hard to come by.
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 I was strictly referring to the uniforms, not the gas masks. The yellow coats are partly based off from what British infantry wore in 1914 (specifically, the 1914 Utility Tunic).
SuperBomber01 2 months ago
@SuperBomber01
Maybe, well as I'm told GW generally tossed things from WWI into a pot, mixed it, then released it. So it's sort of color-coded for your convenience. I still stand on my feeling about Armageddon being French and Krieg German.
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 I am going from the distinct masks with hoses, which are similiar to the ones the allies used and the buttoned back greatcoat and wrappings over the boots, which were typically french.
But their creation process probably went like this: Put everything that is iconic for WWI in a pot, heat slowly sprinkle with a teaspoon WWII german stuff, then sculpt it into minis.
The Armageddon looking like foreign legion is new to me, but that seems interesting. I'll research that.
Fenris86 2 months ago
@Fenris86
Beaviz81 2 months ago
@Beaviz81 the only thing you can not wear in Germany, is the Aquila thats why GW in Germany has the blood angel symbol for its store.
