  • mozart on guitar

  • 5 people are tone deaf and can't appreciate music at all.

  • Amazing

  • He did a clinic here in Vancouver a few years back. I hadn't heard of him prior to that. I thought he was absolutely awesome. He played a song he had written for his daughter. The melodic nature of the song was just mesmerizing. The man is certainly far more talented than many of the contemporary mainstream artists.

  • doyle is the best player i have ever seen

  • grande bonadeo

  • wtf 5 dislikes they must be doped

  • LOVE IT

  • I'm just going to say "wow"! (since Holy Crap was already taken)

  • Like all the great players, he has a very efficient technique - no wasted energy or movement. To me, he seems to physically move his fingers less than seems normal around the frets, yet it's all clear as a bell. A guitar natural. Fantastic.

  • classy

  • 1:15 is the 1st mistake ive ever heard doyle make

  • @TheReilly8 There's no mistake at 1:15.

  • @acr08807 sorry but there is and u can see it in his facial exspression also if u hear him play this in another video u can spot the difference

  • @TheReilly8 Lord, save me from the know-it-all noobs. OK, maestro, what note did he misplay, and what note should he have played instead?

  • @acr08807 dunno mate to be honest im not that bothered i just trust my ears

  • @acr08807

Actually, I think he did make a mistake there. What should have been a B note in that chord was instead a C# which made that part sound odd. You can hear the difference from when he plays that same progression at the beginning of the song "correctly".

Not that it makes him any lesser of a player than he already is. I'd kill to be able to play like that, mistakes or not.

  • @Sirkillsalot22X Damn, you have a good ear. You're right about the difference in the chords. I think both sounded good, but the way he played it in the intro did sound better. Country-style picking isn't at the top of my list, but I'd kill to have talent like this, too. So this is probably the first and last time you'll see this sentiment expressed in a youtube comment, but you were right and I was wrong.

  • @acr08807 actually i think you were meant to apologize and praise the other guy thereilly8

  • @guitarreilly Thanks, you're right. I guess you reillies really stick together. 8)

  • @Sirkillsalot22X I think the only mistake here is your comment. Take care

  • @TheReilly8 Hey, sorry to raise something from a year ago, but someone just pointed out to me that I made an ass of myself by calling you a know-it-all noob when you were dead right about this. I'm sorry. You have a great ear, too.

  • @acr08807 no worries dude cheers

  • Dykes is very good. However, I suggest y'all dial up "Scotty Anderson," & see a fretboard melt!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stratbrat

  • His jazzy playing runs are smooth and love his banjo rolls. Every great guitarist has a quality you can hone in on. Scotty Anderson is quite spectacular at self harmonized guitar lol!

  • is this audience dead? this guy is great, they all need more enthusiasm.

  • Doyle is THE MILK GUITARIST!

  • Does he really need a scratch plate? :P

  • Thank you .

  • Great !

  • Wowee this is great. Love that Bye Bye Blues!

  • As usual, Doyle Dykes is the man. He and Tommy Emmanuel, cgp are about the greatest in the world after Chet Atkins; of course. Check out Smokin Joe Robinson on here. He is only 16 and he can play almost like Tommy Emmanuel!j Richard Smith is no slouch either and neither is Muriel Anderson.

  • @atkinsman

    I agree

    try Scotty Anderson too...

  • Doyle Dykes is a god at guitar, and the songs he writes actually sound good as songs instead of just random guitar solos, despite the fact that he can outplay most guitarists who play lead in the big time bands. And by most I mean all.

  • I agree.

Plus, Doyle`s sound is much cleaner/stronger than the rest.

  • sizzlin'! ssss

  • It's true, guys. Scotty Anderson is a force of fucking nature. It's quite literally inhuman.

  • lol. I'll add my two cents. "Holy Crap!"

  • Thanx for this...Just made my day!

  • Ahem....Mark Knopfler may be the only person other than Doyle who deserves to be mentioned in the same company as Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. Go check out any Chet Atkins + Mark Knopfler "neck and neck" video, and you'll see what I mean!

  • Ever heard of Tommy Emmanuel!? If not check him out, he's one of the greatest guitarists out there today! He has actually recorded with Chet Atkins and Chet himself awarded him as a "C.G.P." (Certified Guitar Player) for his contribution to the art of fingerstyle. I like Doyle too, he's also a great guitarist!

  • If you haven't heard SCOTTY ANDERSON yet...you are going to be in for a surprise. Scotty was doing this before Doyle and Doyle probably learned a lot from Scotty. Check him out!

  • Chet and Merle laid the groundwork for all other guitarists. They are the pioneers and all others have gained knowledge from these two. However Doyle and others have clearly raised the bar in ability...Without Chet and Merle laying the foundation, Doyle, Tommy would not be where they are now...Needless to say fingerstyle playing has just been elevated by these new greats...!

  • Tommy is flat out today's best guitar picker in the world. Nobody can match the reperotoire, improvisation or stage persona. However, Doyle easily is America's best guitarist in some time although he does more patterns than I'd expect at this talent level. Chet still is the defacto-standard as the best guitarist ever as he really only had one primary source, Merle Travis and Jerry Reed for influences where Tommy and Doyle both have benefited from Chet's massive recording library and others.

  • Not only is Doyle expressive, he has fun doing it!

  • Looks like a Gibson Byrdland or an L5.

  • Definitely a Gibson L5CES.

  • you are right but how he got that clear and un jazzy sound is fantastic

  • I think that's what an f-hole sounds like without effects.

  • it must be i carnt think how else he does it but then again i think with jazz players its all about volume and tone if you think about it chet atkinss did not use meny effcts either

  • Doyle's playing just puts a big smile on my face! I read in an interview that the great producer Trevor Horn said his test of musical greatness was when it put a big smile of appreciation on your face.

  • Doyle has the gift. What a master.

  • That guy is crazy good, it's a great privilledge to just be able to watch this stuff right from the couch...

If you like this song also try Harry Sacksioni - Blue Moon ^^ enjoy!

  • What an awesome gift to have!!! Absolutely nothing less than amazing!!! Great job Doyle, keep up the awesome work.

  • reminds me very much of Mr. Chet Atkins, Nobody can ever reach Chet's level in full, but this guy is damn close. great vid. The second tune, reminds me very much of Doc Watson, the second greatest guitar master.

  • I have to disagree. Chet Atkins was an incredible guitarist, and his music is still on a whole different level than most players, but in my opinion I'd have to say Doyle Dykes and Tommy Emmanuel are better than Chet.

  • Tommy Emmanuel far surpassed Chet, yes. Not sure about Doyle, hard to say. I'd say Tommy is one of the best there is though.

  • Agreed. I haven't heard near as much of Doyle's music as I have of Tommy's, but from what I have heard I'd say Doyle's either equal with Chet or pretty darn close. But like I said, I haven't heard many of his tunes. Either way, he is an excellent guitarist and among my favorites :)

  • dont forget Scotty Anderson....he may have a new cd coming out....just to dispel the myth that he is not a top picker...

  • Doyle Dykes reminds me of Buddy Rich, Even tho Buddy was a drummer,I simply mean they both have the Midas Touch.Much success to you doyle. Its a pleasure listening to you play.

  • that is a nice guitar, i have never seen that model of gibson before.

  • Taylor does not make full body archtops so of course he has to use another brand of guitar.

  • watch his video for how great thou art and you'll see how much he feels for the music

  • i like the music,

But if he smile a little bit more and get a little "feel" for it, He will be a nice Intertainer/Player..

  • This must be very old, I've only seen Doyle play Taylor guitars for many years. I do like that Gibson!

  • Actually, it was just last year! Originally the church had this on their website and it could only be streamed, but as soon as I found them I e-mailed the guy and he put them up for download so as to conserve bandwidth. I think he did it the next day, too! That guy is on top of things. :)

  • It looks like a private concert and not a Taylor Clinic, as a result he's probably under no obligation to use a Taylor.

  • He use any kind of guitar he wants at any,, so long and he has a Taylor on the stage,, notice the one in the background

  • If Y'all like Doyle then you'll also dig Scotty Anderson

  • i have a vhs tape of scotty anderson he's really amazing with his chick'n pick'n technique

  • lol. I'll add my two cents. "Holy Crap!"

  • Oh My God!

  • Jesus Christ!

  • Yea Tommy Emmanuel has much more feeling in his playing.

  • This guy is amazing.

  • The only one who can compete with Tommy Emmanuel...but TE has a little more "feel" to his playing

  • youtube.com(take away this)/watch?v=1u-BnyYTlRc

he has quite a lot of feeling this video

    Both are great

  • oh god, so good!

  • This is absolutely amazaing! I am stunned. Frankly, is there someone behind the curtain that do play the rythm :) Metamatic
