They kind of did do one of CSX. On the circus train episode* CSX was hauling the circus train just to let you know. But I wish they did do one of that railroad of one of their trains like the tropicana juice train.
6:20 No, dynamic braking is nothing like using a low gear on a car. Using a low gear uses the resistance of the engine; dynamic braking uses the traction motors as generators to convert the kinetic energy of the train into electrical energy, which is dissipated as heat in resistor grids.
I am loving this, but why is it NS are not making use of Locotrol 3 to kick ass on those grades. Furthermore, 4 SD40-2 replaced by 3-4 ES44AC Units in DP mode, and get rid of those 4 SD60M on the head end and placing either only 2 AC4400CW, ES44ACor SD70ACe. Or the can use the SD60Ms as helpers over the grades...
Correction please: Only the freight trains can't take the grade without Horseshoe Curve. Passenger trains can.Phildelphia to Pittsburg on Amtrak around the curve is less than 8 hours ride. A bridge should be built accross the valley for Amtrak that would cut an other 20 minutes off the ride. Horseshoe curve should be taken on a Tilt Train, not conventional equipment which has to slow down for it. The bridge is a better idea. It's time to abandon the curve to just freight service.
HA HA your kidding right ? HAHA please tell me your kidding. Yea you are. I mean if you want to shave about 4 mins off the trip by building the biggest railroad tressel in the history of man ok hahahaha joker.
@iRECKONER Bridges like this were built to save a few minutes and miles off the Hoboken to Buffalo main of the Lackawanna Railroad. They are STILL building these for highways. Keep laughing, the road builders are not. They are laughing all the way to the middle eastern OWNED banks. This past week alone we just spent a billion dollars to bomb Libya. But have no money for modern railroads. Very funny!
How old are you ? Do you have experience working on the Railroad? haha you were serious. Have you ever been to the Horseshoe curve ? Dude you couldn't be more wrong.
@iRECKONER It's great you have a railroad job. But without customers like me, there is NO railroad. Modern trains follow modern tracks. Improvements in right a way and tracks benefit ALL trains.I have been around Horseshoe curve since it was Pennsylvania Railroad. The conductors would announce it in coaches even if it was the middle of the night! (not sleepers) When and if Amtrak gets thru cars for Harrisburg and New York on the back of the "Capitol Limited"I will again travel around the curve.
@intercityrailpal Right now there is a lay over in Pittsburgh between the Cap and the Pennsylvanian. And of course to control demand it's in the witching hours between 12M and 6A at 5:14AM. The curve I missed was Muleshoe.
I don't work on the RR, but I do know my Railroading. The bridge you spoke of is like saying hey lets build a ladder to the moon. It defies logical thought. The Capitol Limited does not grace the Horseshoe with her presence. It's the Pennsylvanian now. They don't have a thru train anymore from NY to CHI, which sux! have to wait in Pittsburgh for the Capitol Limited which travels on CSX south of the Horseshoe. The Curve may be old, but it's as modern marvel still today.
brakes were invented by George Westinghouse in the 1860s but they had to be change the same way as to today stick a crowbar under the wheel and move it back and forth to remove it.
It is a good thing the spies that tried to blow up Horseshoe Carve and the Salt Lake Causeway were caught if they destroyed those landmarks our convoys would not have gotten to the ports in time

@beeble2003 correct dynamic breaking is also used to bring the train to a stop so the crew does not have to use emergency break to stop.

I wonder why they never said what engine they were operating, they got to operate an SD70MAC!
rokenbok45 6 months ago
@rokenbok45 It's an SD60I. Only certain SD60Is and SD40-2s can work the power plant they went to.

Matt forgot to mention this the power from the wheels is feed to the fans and is used to remove to heat because the locomotive can get hot

@UP5314 That is dynamic braking is used when the locomotive needs to slow but it doesn't want to use the wheel brakes.
