I remember in 2003, my stepdad heard this whole thing and as frustrated as he was, he returned this album at Best Buy and he got another one of their CDs because he was expecting a metal record.
I'm 18 now, and have become a pretty big Opeth fan and I honestly see nothing wrong with this album. You don't need screams or heavy riffs for an album to be good. I mean, it doesn't hurt & no one said every Opeth album would be the same.
lol when he says "no response or action returned" i always thought it said "no response erection returned" which seemed a bit too sadist for opeth considering this songs about child-abuse (or that's how i've interpreted it).

The lyrics kicking in reminded me of A Perfect Circle. I like this a lot more than APC though. A little more varied and gripping for me. Opeth's softer stuff is really reminiscent of King Crimson without the jazz breakdowns that I dont care much for.
@Videostar1another1fa Neither, in my case. They're either too depressing for my mom, or too pussy for the metalhead kids. I'd say only talented musicians can enjoy Opeth.
