This movie is not historically accurate. Kentucky never led after halftime. The closest they came was when the lead was cut to a single point with 3 1/2 minutes gone in the second half. Then the Miner rallied themselves, when Artis and Hill combined for 6 straight points. Someone did not do their homework when they produced this film.

No, the black players where NOT all freshmen, look up the history, and another falsity of this film, 65-66 was not Don Haskins first year at Texas Western, now known as UTEP, his first season was in 61-62. One could only imagine, if Kentucky would have signed Wes Unseld, whom Adolph Rupp recruited, and Unseld had been our center, he would have had Mr. Lattin for lunch.

I gotta say, whenever think about this game I can never understand why more people didn't see this upset coming. Forget black vs. white, or prestige vs. unknown. Texas Western was HUGE. Kentucky's nickname that year was "The Runts." They were tiny. Did anybody watching the game really think Riley could stop Lattin?

@quinzieg It doesn't really portray Rupp as racist. From what I understand, even his own family didn't object to the portrayal. Rupp wanted to win basketball games, and he didn't care about societal issues. He had even tried to recruit black players before this game, including Wes Unseld. One of the UK players likes to tell a joke about how after he saw Lattin, he knew they "could have really used Wes Unseld."

I'm not sure what game you were watching, but if you watch game film on the 1966 NCAA championships you'll realize that Lattin dunked 7 times that game. Care to try again? How can both teams be favorites? The Miners were 45-1 to win it all.  Kentucky was 6-4 to win it all based on Vegas odds that year. Care to try again? People should stop posting if they have no idea what they're talking about. It's truly sad.

You are completely incorrect. If you don't know facts, please don't post. Slam Dunking was not banned until 1967 and was banned until 1976. Why? Because of Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The Miners won the National Championship in 1966, meaning they were allowed to dunk, and did so while embarrassing Kentucky.
