I would like to point out that those are more likely to be the hydrogen collectors on the nacelles. the warp engine its self is drive plasma down the length of the nacelle or some scientific mumbojumbo :P
You can build great plasma balls - lamps - but a warp drive is something else - if you can create a field that makes objects invistible and then see a blue light and the object is far away - than you have a warp drive
The original ones did not rotate. The "fins" on the inside were painted lines. The lightbulbs were set into a rotating circle, and they rotated. It gave the illusion that the "fins" spun, but they never did.
From the original prop creator research people have done. Affter I made that comment, I was thinking about it, and I was confusing the original prop with a kit making a model. The original domes did not spin, but the inner dome with the painted lines did. Otherwise, my comment was correct. The inner lights spun, on a circle, and consisted of red, green, blue, and yellow bulbs.
I hate to criticize such hard work but the blinking LEDs don't look right, there should be rotating blades inside there to make it look like the original
@SIMO97BALDI Actually, these were named as early as the fourth season of TNG titled "Night Terrors"... They were mentioned in a second season episode "Samaritan Snare" as simply hydrogen collectors.

The vid info says its 'a more realistic effect' You made a more realistic effect of something that doesn't exist. Any effect is just as realistic when its all fake!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yea I agree lol. The term 'realistic' refers to making something appear more like real life. Thats impossible when an impulse drive or whater (not warp) doesn't exist irl.
Nicely done...although hardcore Trek Nerds will nitpick and whine about these actually being the Bussard Collectors, and not the "warp engines", or about them being the wrong color, among other petty gripes.
I am currently scratchbuilding a 6ft long Constitution class and the lighting will mostly be LEDs. Am still experimenting on the 'rotating' lighting effects for the Nacelle front caps. Hard to do with a 3" end cap and a 36in long nacelle as I am NOT an electrical engineer.
ZebraKawaii: "All my physics class were laughing at you!"
I'm pretty sure he was talking about visual effect, and not the actual physical effect. Oh well, at least you made them langh by completely misreading what he was doing here.
Nice!

Oh well. I hoped it would be a video about the warp core in a decent star trek series. But this is the NACELLE from TOS. Shame.
But still, it's an impressive representation. Congrats.

I think they are called bussard collectors I cannot remember for sure! they would look great on a constitution class model, really authentic
katakisLives 1 year ago
@katakisLives yes the correct name is bussard collectors (nominated in star trek insurrection) [the italian name is "collettori bussard"]

Well, seeing as how they're attached to the warp nacelles, you can understand how people could make an erroneous conclusion.

I guess that's bound to happen when you use a design that has decades and generations behind it.
Sort of like playing Stairway to Heaven and doing it RAP - you're going to get sh1t for it...and rightly so.
In any event, I though this was a pretty cool little test.
