Some lecture notes:
-Histories of democracy and free media largely parallel
-Without citizens, constitution and bill of rights are just pieces of paper
-Citizens aren't born, they're made
-Voting is relatively small part citizenship
-Media is critical "fourth estate" of a democratic system
-Domination by commercial interests is opposed to democracy, as is totalitarianism, theocracy, etc
-Every election cycle we ask: "Who's going to save us from the last 4 years?" The answer is no one (but us)
