  • His voice is amazing - such a range. My condolences to his friends and family.

  • Beautifully sung. Sad. Condolences to those who knew him.

  • Sadly, Johnny passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. He'll be greatly missed by all who knew him or heard his music.

    RIP Johnny Silvo 1936-2011.

  • According to his agent's website, there's no hope of recovery, but at the time of writing Johnny is still alive, although very ill. He's not able to accept any phone calls, but welcomes any messages folk would like to send. For those on Facebook, you can leave a message for Johnny on his Facebook group page (tried to put the address here but YouTube won't let me! Just enter 'Johnny Silvo' into the search field.)

Nice video, beautiful song and a truly lovely man.

  • I have had the pleasure to watch this Great Man perform many times over the years at the Merrymas Folk Festival in Irvine, Scotland.

It was an Honour to have met and known him.

    He will be sourly missed.

  • & sadly has has flown away, RIP Johnny. Great to have known you.

  • Saw Johnny many times at the Half Moon Pub, Putney in the sixties. Happy memories.

  • I've seen Johnny twice - 40 years apart, both in Dartford, Kent. Unless he visits the USA I'll have to wear my CDs out. I'd love a CD of him with Dave Moses who was with him at both gigs. Thanks for some great songs.

  • First saw Johnny in the 60s in Sussex. I loved him then and still do. A great entertainer!

  • During the Marymass in Irvine 2009, Johnny came to Stanecastle School and performed an hour long set for pupils and staff. He sang all his classics including a number of requests like 'The Wid Rover'. He was very modest while answering questions from the pupils regarding his popularity and earlier fame as a preesenter on TV shows like PlaySchool. Such a warm personality. You were splendid...from all the pupils and staff, thankyou. P.S. Remember you promised to come back next year. All the best.

  • Come to Iowa and perform please.

  • I've heard this guy talked about and understand he goes way way way back in the British folk scene. A living legend and still singing well.

  • johnny silvo is one of the few entertainers who never fails to deliver an evening of complete entertainment.........he is a legend in his own lifetime!!

  • Johnny! He did the folk circuit in the early 60's, and he used to introduce himself as 'A browned-off Paddy'! What a great personality and voice.

  • I don't know what to say...

    What a range!

    Just wonderful!

  • Haven't seen Johnny for 41 years - since he came to City of Westminster College in Blackfriars in '67. What memories.

  • That's some solid range right there .. well done!

    Great version of the song.

  • Note to Noardewyn. Add some more searchable tags to your 'Tags' section. Such as Blues, Folk, Ragtime, Acoustic, finger-picking, Alfred Brumley.

Then more people will be able to stumble across Johnny's great music.

Thankyou for putting this song on here.

Johnny, I'll see you when you're back in England. Take care. Danny

  • been listening to johnny for years since the marymass folk festival and he is still good today as he was then. thank you

  • Johnny played in Quarter, Hamilton last night and it was amazing - such a strong, powerful voice, and perfect guitar playing.

    He played this tune too!

  • That's brilliant!

I'm going to see Johnny Silvo play at a folk club next week, and can't wait!

  • That's my dad:D

  • Hello Patrick. I've been a good friend of your dad's for 25 years. Say hi to him for me. I'm Polly's son Danny. We need more videos of him on YouTube. Remind him about Fretkillr on YouTube.
