  • Another excellent lesson !

  • love ur tutorials ....... :) gave me very good information on Tabla

  • The audio is not clear why dont you explain with alphabets like TA,KI this makes it east to understnad

  • This is great stuff. First, I went to a local tabla master who showed me the basic hits/slaps. Now, with your help, I'm starting to put it all together. To those who are trying to pick your playing apart, they need to get a life. All musicians will improvise, to a point. It is in this improvisation that your true talent is shown. Again, thanks!

  • thanks to you to help us but i do not get the letters of lesson 2.3.4. if you can plz send them to me

    Henk de Jong

  • you are my favorite youtube channel right now thank you!

  • excellent !!!

    Many Many thanks to you

  • Good work Venkat!

  • YOU ARE GREAT VENKAT. You have very very nicely explained this lesson + all others.

  • I fail to understand why people leave so harsh words on someone's hard work. This guy is spending his valuable time helping us.

Keep on Venkat. Don't bother the loosers.

  • @banglachord big up!! here here

  • thank you so much their are no gurus where i live!!!

  • Venkat has done a great job. He does not claim to be a great master, but says openly that he is learning too. However, to all those here who say they are better, why dont you put up some lessons also. If yours are better, Im sure people will appreciate it. If you dont have the guts to do so, then please, and I say this with the kindest words... please shut up!!!

  • exactly

  • Hey Venky !!

U hv done a great job by giving teaching lessons for tabla. I had a long lasting desire to learn but tell you what....you did this for me. Man, I have started playing tabla and you had been my secret teacher. Bravo and many thanks for putting these lessons on the You Tube.

  • venkat,

thx a lot for this. u r doing a great service to tabla lovers and with good feeling too.. plz keep it up.. it's much appreciated..

  • hey!! Que onda, I got my tabla a couple of weeks ago y todo lo que puedo decirte es THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THESE LESSONS!!! I'm having a lot of fun trying to play the exercises. I'm studying your lesson 3 and looking forward to the next one. Please keep up this great work 'cause here in Mexico it's a little hard to find a tabla teacher.

  • much like anyone whos ever played any muscial instrument on youtube, there are some people who insist they can play better. feel free to show us!

when i have money ill be getting a tabla set, and these are the videos ill definitely be watching to pick up the basics.

i can hear the difference between each sound (are they described as letters or notes or sounds?) so i really dont care if a third knucle is a few milimeters to the right.

    please keep them coming venkat!

  • Hello venkat,

You are doing it perfectly. Initially all the basics, then variation. why dont you open a website? put all your videos. try putting in different beats. I want to learn tabla, mainly inspired my Talvin Singh.

    God bless you!

  • realy good

  • at least the guy has the courage, not like some of the chicken shits. There is no doubt a teacher is needed, but I commend the guy who at least inspires people and some of you should not criticize the guys english, what did you expect some guy to "Howdy folks".

  • LOL-

What If somebody can hardly afford regular tablaset and has not the money to get teachingLessons then?He/She could take some inspirations from here or else were.Every art has some examples posted(fromCookingTodrawing)-If you speak of Misleading then you're just making a drama out where no drama exists-keep your 'advices' for yourself. LOL again

  • las msg 2 CITYHUNTER???

  • I agree with many of you....Venkat, you should not be teaching tabla...all you are doing is misleading people and trapping them with bad technique and speech which will be hard to reverse if they ever get a real teacher...there is no finesse or clarity or consistency in your playing, and i guarantee you can't play at high speeds

sorry brother...i love you, but you should be the one taking lessons from a true guru

  • Rory, I never plan on getting a real teacher, and I assume most people watching these don't plan on it either. I just want to dabble a bit on a tabla set I bought in Udaipur on holiday, that up until now has sat in the corner as decoration. Venkat has inspired me to do this, and though I'll never be a tabla master, I can finally enjoy my drums and better appreciate listening to tabla records.

And truthfully, not to be mean because I REALLY love you brother...but you need to shut the fuck up.

  • Please post some tips on learning too.

  • i really appeciate it.

it is good for me to pick up tabla on youtube like this.

    thanks so much

  • please man take it easy, i admit what ur doing is good, teching the public, but take ur time, ur adding variations to the bhol ur teaching, remember the audience might be beginners, so that wouldnt be wise, just take ur time, and play the beat, just as u call it, like dha terekete Na terekete.

  • I think he's going at an appropriate speed. You have to practice the lesson he shows you for a minimum 15 minutes. You should now no na, ta, tin, dha, dhin, and dhi like the back of your hand. He's only teaching one variation, which is not bad at all. Every time I learn tabla, I get a minimum 5 variation of the same bol to be practiced 10-100 times.

  • i understand, but remember hes teaching the public, and hes variating the beat, got to remember most persons follow instrucfion as there told, if u say play 123, u cannot go and change it up, or else there gunna question, especially a beginner, a better experienced player will understand the change, and i kno what u mean by getting a lot of bols for one piece, like u, i got a lot fo bols too, sometimes i had to follow guruji wile he played fast. those were times i loved,

  • well this is youtube. You get what you pay for. My instructor is top notch but charges $20 for 45 minutes. Here you pay nothing. Take him for what it's worth.

  • Some people might be sickened by this, but as I watch these videos, I play the letters using the technique he teaches, expect on bongo drums.

    (I can't afford tablas)

  • I can't afford either.

  • almost ther jus need to speed up lik shifo him self(jus incase manz tinkin wot shifo is it means master)

  • ay4l - If you are going to comment in English, then try writing in English and have clarity of thought. Stop typing in text. My 2yr old goddaughter is more understandable than you.

  • jus coz u don understan ne ada lingo don get fukin jelous bout it m8

  • ay41, I will never be jealous because I can't write in an incomprehensible lingo. What I am trying to say is that you may be making an insightful comment, but if it's unintelligible, then its meaning is lost.

  • come n when i was getting it u start it to show off. come on hahaha.

  • Fuck you then.. sorry Ventak for using foul language but i had to teach this pc of shit a lesson not to comment on someone's accent.

  • Totally agree with you, deeba123.

Perhaps if Ventak explain to us in hindu then he will not have an accent!

He's talking english for us! Anglofonics here in youtube simply forget that it's us who are making them a favor speaking in THEIR language. There's always someone critisising the accent, gramar & missplelling of those who SIMPLY don't are anglophonics by birth. But when they don't understand the language of the comments, then they write: "english, please" Lame. Sorry for the spam, Ventak

  • hmm ti ri ki ta same for mrdangam. are you supposed to stress wrist rotation while playing tabla? it helps for mrdangam

  • do you play/teach other drums too like dholak???

  • Thanks for viewing. I can't play Dholak, I don't have one.

  • I think Venkat actually says that the tirikita Ti and Ta are the same, and that they are just called differently to make it "easy to say."

  • Dear Venkat,

Thank you very much. Appreciate your spirit to spread the knowledge and practical tabla lessons. Your videos will definetl help millions of tabla lovers. Please keep posting.

    Regards,

  • Hey I just don't get the Dha TiRi KiTa : Na TiRi KiTa

Can u please show it slow motion or can u do it slower

  • what's the difference between Ti and Ta ?!

  • ThanX for viewing. Ti or Tee is played on the middle circle with index finger where as Ta or Na is played on the outer circle. Please view my other lesson tiltled "Tabla Lesson Basics"

  • HEy =) thxfor the lessons !

i'm not talking about Ta (or Na) that is viewed on Lesson 1 but about Ta, the "muted" letter

    => Dha TiRi KiTa

on this sentence, "Ti" and "Ta" seems to be played the same way

  • You are right, In the context of TiRi KiTa kayida yes. Unfortunately these bols can not always be expressed in English.

In TiRi KiTa : Ti in TiRi is as in Thing (without h) and Ta in KiTa is as in Tamato

  • So what's the difference between those two Bols ? (Thing and Tamato) They look the same

  • As far as I know it (Ti and Ta) are played same in the context of TiRi KiTa. It is played on the center of the right black circle with the middle and ring finger joined together, where as Ri played with the index finger.

  • ypur helping people around the world thanks

  • thanks for the lessons

  • please keep posting lesson. They are excellent and very helpful!!
