  • Ok stfu there both badass btw is this the only rock vid on utube where people dont fight about justin bieber

  • RIP Stuart. Great song mate! Posted a few B/C songs on my channel. Fell in love with them in the early 80's. No one like 'em.

    Geoff

  • @pkneebo I'm a white kid from Spokane, WA.

  • @user21937

Did somebody spill a pot of white paint over you ?

  • @roddy76to86 Not that I'm aware of.

  • You guys should thank U2 and Green Day. They made the song terrible so everyone would appreciate the original more. Someone thinks it's clever. Only one problem with this plan. It worked.

  • This is the original and best version the Saints are coming. Brilliant album and one of my favourites of all time. This band should have been given more attention because they were truly one of the best punk bands in the late seventies. I am fortunate to have this on vinyl and consider this a piece of fine music of the punk genre.

  • Covering this is like trying to draw De Vinci dont even attempt it no matter the cause, and how fucking annoying for all of us their at time that grew up with Skids and Big Country to have them not even get credit typical USA mentality change history for youre purpose..Skids song end of, and not to give them credit in first place is a Liberty. ..

  • Thumbs up if you think Saints Row: The Third should have used this as there trailer song.

  • I have this lp on vinyl so I have known for over thirty years about this band. Stuart Adamson went on to make the band and song Big Country.

  • fucking hell are people STILL arguing about the U2 and Green Day cover of this? :') EEEEEEEE. Just enjoy the song!!!!!

  • The Saints are coming November 15th.

  • Well...Iam going to Wifey McBeaties to get a boilermaker. Whos comin with me?!

  • @thebrentboys You can't be serious.

  • CANT STOP THINKING OF SAINTS ROW!

  • brilliant st mirren song

  • @VolkanDemirelNo1

    And Dunfermline, and Southampton...

  • @user21937

I understand what you're getting at. But the flag was put there as part of my effort to show the song's origins, as there was a common misconception that it was originally a U2/Green Day song. Unlike other idiots I have no objection to them covering the song, especially as it was a charity effort to help New Orleans. Also I can't change the flag without changing the clip and so would "lose" over 200,000 views. And I enjoyed your last statement !

  • Boondock Saints

  • To be precise..Adamson was from the cultural centre that is Crossgates!

  • I'm part irish.

  • The Hives need to cover this.

  • sorry but i just cant hear the green day& U2 version again x)

  • U2 and Greenday are wank. They did a shoddy cover of this.

  • A cover is just that a cover..Class five star Scottish energy, passion and aggression in equal amounts from bods that grew up in state schools and schemes....Amazing band.

  • Didnt know that The Skids were Scots, you guys have some good tunes over there, Greetings from Sunny Mexico

  • SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

    ╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮

  • Boondock Saints. Thumbs Up !

  • Calm down, Green Day and U2 didn't write nor steal the song, The Skids originated it and U2 and Green Day covered it, it is actually a complement to The Skids saying their music is brilliant.

  • @SerioMagus

U2's guitarist "The Edge" has always been an admirer and influenced by the Skid's guitarist the late Stuart Adamson; who when the Skids broke up went on to form "Big Country".

  • @SerioMagus but the first verse of the green day covered was written by green day and is dedicated to the victims of Katrina

  • @2everibodyfeaturinme there is a house in new orleans. they called the rsing sun bit? that wasnt written by green day :L it's from a song called, wouldnt you guess "house of the rising sun." Muse did a covr of it, I cant remember the original.

  • @SillyStephers93 yeah sorry for my foolness :P... it's bu the Animals

  • @SillyStephers93 'The animals' in the late 60's i think

  • @knormskie

'House of the Rising Sun' is an american folk song, The Animals just made a version of it.

  • @SillyStephers93

Yeah that's true, they just took another existing song and changed "the rising sun" for "the super dome".

  • @SerioMagus and they paid the rights, so people should always stop whining about "stealing" covers. The skids (or their current owners) agreed

  • Bono ruined his version by screaming I'm an american half way through it

  • green day is a good band but this version is so much better

  • This version... by The Skids... is great. I enjoy the U2/Green Day version too. Just imagine if I were to sing it. Trust me, You don't want that to happen. Hahahaha

  • Green Day is ass. Just sayin

  • Comment removed

  • @NatWolff43567890

And where did you happen to come across this totally false piece of information ? Richard Jobson and Stuart Adamson of the "Skids" wrote this song in 1978. Look up Wikipedia or somewhere if you don't believe me.

  • @NatWolff43567890

    Or perhaps you're just "trolling".

  • @roddy76to86 That guy has a 'Fallout Boy" video on his profile channel - so what did you expect?

  • @NatWolff43567890 Stop trolling..

  • @NatWolff43567890 i love green day. but no they did not write this. this is a skids song. get ur facts straight

  • The way the song is build is really good and the first guitar parts makes me shiver

  • @xINiNJAzIx

I may agree with that, Richard Jobson is hardly Pavarotti. But that doesn't mean theU2/Green Day version of the song is better.

  • Dear saints, please pacify the jersey shore cast. thx

  • Okay you fuckers,

Music is music and if you don't like it then don't fucking listen to it. You also dont need to fucking comment "But fucking so and so did a better version" it's fucking annoying and then you fucking sit there and fucking argue over it. Honestly just fucking leave the page and go back to whatever the fuck you listen to. So shut the fuck up already. And thanks for putting this video up.

  • @xAxCxRxBx

My pleasure. As for the rest of what you say, I couldn't have put it better myself !

  • @roddy76to86

    maybe minus the 'fuck/fucking"-parts?

  • @lorddwan

No, I enjoyed that ! There's nothing like a good swear sometimes. As I've said, I only "censor" comments if it is personal abuse aimed at someone in particular. They can abuse their opinion, but not the individual.

  • the original is good but and i know U2 and Green Day couldn't have made another version of it if it wasn't already out there but i'm just respectfully saying that i like U2 and Green Day's version better. I'm sorry if this offends people but it's just my opinion. personaly i think both versions are good.

  • Boondock Saints?

Just felt like throwing that in there.

  • @KevinandSergeLPs

    They are irish.....

  • cy

  • Skids song as for anything else youth really shouldnt claim this or that you wernt their..It was as is now a brilliant song Scottish in origin written by young angry Scottish men in a time of mass Unemployment and dissalusionment with society..Without that no song..As for any "Covers" why would any thread praise a cover when the originals the best and authentic version..I despair i really do , Youth read a book go check some history and facts.

  • @DelStrainComedy being an original doesn't make it any better as a song, so long as people respect that a cover IS just a cover, then it's fine to like it better.

  • to: everyone arguing about which version is better

    -WHO gives a shit?

  • Nah, GDU2 is better.

  • green day and U2 version better in my opinion.

  • @canadagreenday

If that's the case, then why didn't Green Day and U2 write their own song instead of stealing this one ?

  • @roddy76to86 dude, it's called a cover. All big bands cover other songs, even Jimi did!

  • @roddy76to86 I think the skids pull off a way better rock tone that GD/U2, I'm not a fan of GD singer anyway

  • @roddy76to86 Using this one :) not stealing....

  • @MysteryAccordeonMan

I could have phrased that better ! But I seem to remember the comment I was reacting to had really annoyed me. But at least it was about the music.

This upload has proved to be very popular which is great, but also attracts a lot of comments. A couple have been so bad I've had to delete them straight away and block the sender. Others have been personally abusive so I have deleted the comment, but informed that person they are still welcome to comment in moderation.

  • @roddy76to86 I can completely understand your reaction... you like a song, uploaded it to youtube and someone dislikes it! My way of thinking is that greenday and U2 could't produce theire cover without The Skids, and I always enjoyed listening to new modern songs and their older original!

  • @roddy76to86 How did they steal it if they covered it for charity?

  • @DaleJSimpson

Ok, "stealing" is a word over the top. It looks like I must have been fed up with the previous comment which I can't be bothered looking for. The Green Day/U2 song is a "cover version". And as you say, it was in aid of charity.

  • @roddy76to86 They recorded their cover in September, 2006 with the proceeds to go to the Hurricane Katrina effort. It was available online for sale, but it didn't really get many downloads. In fact, that was true even after the Super Bowl performance.

I think that Bono's & Billy Joe's hearts were in the right place - but it didn't really pan out. Hopefully, the discography of The Skids got some action because of it.

  • @altroval

As you can see from my description I uploaded this song with the big Scottish flag to counter the common misconception that the U2/Green Day version was original. I'd no objections to them doing a cover version, and it was a serious charity effort. So this upload did pull in a lot of views, but what really made it go berserk and become by far my most highly viewed upload, was this version of the song being used in the soundtrack of "The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day".

  • @roddy76to86

If you listened properly, the one covered by U2 and Green Day was actually a combination of "House of the Rising Sun" by "The Animals" and this song.

  • @b44styreraug

Nonsense. And The Animals didn't write the "House Of The Rising Sun".

  • @roddy76to86 they didnt steal it stupid also in the u2 and Gd version it includes the house of the rising sun in the intro and its called a cover not stealing lol

  • @elmexicanochilango

    I'm fucking sick of this.

  • @canadagreenday then u dont know music, son. this one is the original and best. it's from ''78''

  • @canadagreenday well to me this noise is what i love and green day haved good version too but well they would do better if they did this song and house of the rising sun apart not mix it

  • @canadagreenday I knew someone like you that suffered from lack of taste when it came to music. One weekend with The skids, R E M, monks, The konks, The clash and many others made him realize that unlike many bands Like U2 their songs are unique and have meaning. Maybe next time dont try and disrespect a band on their own video. Either keep it to your self or say it to a group that would agree. like on the U2 version. -_- unnecessary rudeness is not needed.

  • @canadagreenday sounds exactly the same save for the face billy joel ruined it with his horrible singing.

  • @canadagreenday go fuck yourself!! The two versions are goods!

  • @canadagreenday Ohh, youre from canada, thats why, I thought we killed all of you guys back In 1799?! guess not, well Feck Off Ya Farten Poke!

  • Both versions are awesome. Live or studio, the song is powerful. I do like the contrast between them and the guitar work in the live version only adds more texture and a welcome variation to the song. Thanks for chatting and more would always be welcome....

  • @Broblem12

I mainly prefer the quite recently released live version simply because I've been listening to the original version for 33 years ! Sadly to the best of my knowledge there are no other versions by the Skids of The Saints Are Coming. But if you look at my channel page, YouTube now have a handy "search" facility (for uploads and favourites), so if you simply type in "Skids", a handful of my other Skids uploads should appear, both live and recorded.

  • @roddy76to86

I know it's been a month, but there's also that Session Version I sent you, if you remember!

  • @Stig1138

    Oh yeah...

  • Brings the movies back to me. Awesome song, and I mostly hate cover versions as they tend to be cash motivated and not about a quality take on a song. Thanks for this music post!!!

  • @Broblem12

This is the original song, not a cover version. The original version was used in that Boondock Saints film.

  • @roddy76to86 Have never heard the covers of this and don't need to ever. Awesome song and damn glad to hear the first and only version that needs heard. Thanks roddy!!

  • @Broblem12

My pleasure. You might want to listen to the Skids playing this song live in 1980 that I've put in the "video responses". It's more raw, but the late, great Stuart Adamson plays some neat variations, bored presumably playing it the same way every time.

  • Fuck Green Day...The original is the bulls bollocks!

  • hey man fuck green day ! this is the original and always will be ! obviously green day agrees too because they covered this song!

  • i like the original (not remasterd)

  • This one is betterrr <3 <3 <3 EPIC.

  • Original is better, with out it people cant make shitty versions of it

  • who are the skids??? idk not punk legends like the Awesome Green Day

  • @elmexicanochilango

    Is this sarcasm ?

  • @roddy76to86 yes it is. are u a skids fan? u2 and green day's versions better

  • @elmexicanochilango

My favourite version is the live one by the Skids that I've put in the video response section. RAW ! And Stuart Adamson is fed up playing it the same way for 3 years, and adds some great guitar variations.

But I get tired of "which is better ?" Beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

  • @elmexicanochilango You are taking the piss.. The original is the best...

  • @elmexicanochilango green day = no musical talent

  • @jimi025 are you serious Green day have more awards and are more known around the world they do have talent all the songs are good

  • @elmexicanochilango ok too bad greenday had to group up with u2 and their version still sucks campared to the original version lets look at the diffrence in years back when this band was around they were just starting to accept rock so yeah older bands help pave the way for these bands

  • @elmexicanochilango you are pathetic.....flwre

  • @elmexicanochilango estas pero bien pendejo vatito jajajajajajajaajaj

  • @thecrazed77 Neta guey me vale madre

  • The Skids Rules............Green Day stinks

  • I hate you Green day. You destroy The Skids spirit.

  • @TV1Totoya

But they've certainly helped this upload's viewing figures !

  • @TV1Totoya you're right. greenday only covered the song to make a lot of money but the spirit of this song isn't in the green day version, it's nothing in comparison with the the skids version, which is great!

  • @Bieroern

I agree about the music. But I thought the U2/Green Day version was done for charity, after Hurricane Katrina devestated New Orleans. And the name of the New Orleans American football team is "The Saints".

  • @muhajong

I sometimes wonder if I've uploaded a song or a film clip !

  • how is it i live in Dunfermline and NEVER heard of there guys, Awesome!

  • @chiaroos You do list your occupation as "teenager" (which made me laugh; I have a 15 year old son with Standard Grades looming), so they were rather before your time. All the same it is surprising you haven't heard of them. You can't have met an "oldie" like me who wallows in the nostalgia of the great music of that time. There are a few more "Skids" songs in my uploads if you're interested. One sad fact is their brilliant guitarist Stuart Adamson died in 2001.

  • Well now people will finally be able to see who REALLY wrote this song. I like Green Day and U2's version better, but this is the original (which most people don't know) and it's pretty good.

  • @MrKyel17

That was my main reason for uploading this (with the big Scottish flag !), just so people would know where the song originated from. As for which is best, well that's a matter of personal taste.

My favourite version is the live one by the Skids I've put in as a video response. Really raw, and the great, late Stuart Adamson messes about with the guitar work brilliantly, as he's obviously bored out his skull playing it the same way each time for the previous 3 years.

  • @MrKyel17 i bought this on 12"red vinyl back in the day and its well better than u2/green day

  • @johnnybagful Well good for you. That's your opinion. I, personally, PREFER the Green Day and U2 version to this, although this one is still good, and you'll never convince me to think otherwise.

  • @MrKyel17 right on mate,i like the u2/green day version aswell,it would be a boring old world if everyone liked the same stuff, wouldnt it

  • @johnnybagful Unfortunately too many people do like the same things...all that rap and pop shit like *insert shitty pop artist here* and *insert shitty rap artist here* (there are just so many to pick from). It's sad the kind of shit people call music nowadays. But hey that's my opinion and some of them have theirs.

  • @johnnybagful

Have you still got that 12" ? It's probably a collector's item by now.

  • @roddy76to86 ive still got it roddy, ilove the skids and the punk/new wave stuff.you have some top tunes yourself, its my era

  • @johnnybagful

    Glad to hear it.

  • I'm quite ashamed of myself right now. Somehow, after 18 years of existence, this song and band has completely passed me by. Thanks for rectifying my mistake, cheers.

  • @scotlandsarmy

    Better late than never !

  • This makes me thinck of The Saints Row video game

  • Bullshit about the record companies being in charge now. We have this much shitty pop music in the charts right now not because of the record companies but because of the fucked up taste in music today's majority has.

  • @ArowanaW

amen to that. when the old white guys were in charge they still let music like this out. but once everything opened up everything went downhill.

same thing with the fucking movies today. back when the old white guys controlled the studios they had to take risks to stay afloat so they made classics.

now todays movies cater completely to what people want and look what we get?

  • @mattressjedi

Your talking nonsense. The hippies, prog. rockers, and executives of the big record companies (the old white guys) in the UK tried everything in their power to suppress punk. The BBC's "Old Grey Whistle Test" played it's first punk song two years late in 1978: junior staff revolt ! The Sex Pistol's "God Save The Queen" was No.1 in 1977, but only got to No.2 as the BBC manipilated the sales figures (this is now admitted), and the NME bottled out completely and had no No.1 !

  • i'm glad you posted this! i thought it was done for the movie but it's still equally appropriate for the movie. plus uk 70s punk is still the best punk...ever!

  • 9 people got executed by the McManus Brothers

  • @skinnyfreak1022

What the fuck has that got to do with a 1978 Scottish punk song ?

  • @roddy76to86 It's from The Boondock Saints...

  • @NascarFreak3

    Thank you.

  • @NascarFreak3 GOD BLESS THE BOONDOCK SAINTS

  • @roddy76to86 everything !

  • DING DONG MOTHERFUCKER DING DONG

  • @ryanbob1000 nice saying. yeah man spot on

  • @ryanbob1000 Amen to that!

  • I honestly like both versions of the song. But this one a tiny bit better.

  • This song is quite ahead of it's time, musically.

  • the saints are coming

  • love the saints

  • @MrSocks92

The best version is the live performance I put as a video response. Obviously too "raw" for many people, but I think it's great, and the late Stuart Adamson's guitar work is brilliant. Go on, give it a try !

  • @MrSocks92 frankly I find U2/green day's version much more meaningful ... but this one haves a great charm too mate

  • @MightyMonkeyWrench um no.......they just stole riffs and lyrics from the house of the rising son and this song

  • @MrSocks92 are you on crack?....

  • I like Green Day's version better...

  • @fearfulcrawdog hey bro us ameicans can be oricks to just saying and ima correct your self for you you ment the someone out of the us and ireland arnt trying to be a prick your welcome peace out

  • greenday and u2 did a version?

  • @soilwork88

Er, yes ! For charity for New Orleans (whose baseball team are called "The Saints") after Hurricane Katriana. If you look back through the comments you'll see rather a big fuss about which version was is best !

My motivation for uploading the song with a big Scottish flag and a description was to ensure that people would know the song's origins, as many Americans (and others) were under the misapprehension that it was an original U2/Green Day song.

  • @roddy76to86 Well I'm American and I knew of this version first. Just know that we're not ALL fat and stupid. (Americans)

  • @Foreman1695

Apologies if I gave that impression, but I did say MANY Americans. I also know that from personal experience, as I lived in America for six months (and went to school there) when I was 12 years old in 1976.

And I got home just in time for the UK punk "explosion". That was a relief !

  • @roddy76to86 Yeah I'm 15. That's a little bit before my time but I wish I could have been there; and honestly I agree with you there the general population of the US embarrasses me.

  • @Foreman1695

that just a myth. Most third world countries' people and many europeans has the same range of knowledge, even worse

the only thing that makes us worse is that we are too reliant upon our government and has lost that independence edge

and its like REALLY embarssing that sarah palin is extremely stupid :DDDDD

  • @Foreman1695

True , but most of you are !!

  • @jepsyboy Thankyou.

  • @roddy76to86- <__< Umm They are a Football team not a baseball team xD

  • @RJAfterlife89

Oops, apologies, my mistake. But then over here a football is round and we kick it !

  • I love this version 10000000000X more than U2s and Greendays I hate U2 they look like fags and I don't mean cigarettes =D

  • heard this on boondock saints 2 :)

  • yeah i'm just gonna go ahead and say because of the fight that i am from the US and i am a big U2 and greenday fan but there is no fucking way you can say that their version is better remakes 90% of the time are complete shit and if you can say that the skids suck i hope the next time you go to a gay Justin Bieber concert that YOU get hit with the water bottle and Justin can finally get hit by Pubertiy

  • @Fearfulcrawdog

Who the hell is Justin Bieber ?

  • @roddy76to86 he's a musical fad like the Jonas brothers he's one of the people who little girls go crazy over and block real musicians like breaking benjamin the skids that kind of music it makes me sick knowing real music is almost never noticed anymore he's just a kid that got lucky and thinks he's awesome now it really is sad but i'm glad its just a US thing i guess thankfully other nations aren't on this band wagon
