    Many Thanks

    Wade

  • Amazing!

  • In 1965 I was only 1 year old but already loved Bluegrass and the great sounds of banjo !!

  • For any of you who might know who Carlton Haney is there is a group on Facebook called 'Carlton Haney's Bluegrass Festival'. It is an open forum where pictures, videos, comments, conversations, etc. are posted about this era of bluegrass. Just a heads up.

  • Looks like a young Bill Emerson on banjo!!

  • I suspect its Bill Torbert on mandolin with Jimmy

  • thanks for posting this!! such rare footage here!

  • WOW THIS IS GREAT

  • This is how it was done back in the day!! What a marvelous video to have shared with us! Thanks!!!

  • God bless youtube!...

  • these were great, hope you have some more

  • I'm from Holland, but man I love this music.

  • No one compares to this man - great voice with great range and also a great guitar player he runs the A like nobody else. Wayne

  • Mac still has it!! love the man,Love the music

  • Now on Poor Ellen Smith they got Jimmy Martin singing, Bill Emerson on banjo. Is the mando player Vernon McIntyre? Is it Bill Yates on bass?

  • @TruegrassBoy Don't think it was Vernon (Junior) McIntyre as he would have still been playing at the Ken Mill in Cincinnati, OH. He did play banjo for Martin sometime after that.

  • Excellent mandolin!

  • Thanks for posting these two videos.

Classic Bluegrass is far better than the modern "new grass"

  • Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin & Don Reno enough said.

  • @jlooney1967 You got it buddy!

  • What an all star lineup, I love Benny Martin's playing....

  • Someone may have already posted this comment, but where was this takin' place?

  • Cantrell's Horse Farm in Fincastle, Virginia - the date was September 3 to 5, 1965

  • Jimmy Martin was also on the Wheeling Jamboree along with Mac. One of the greatest singers ever in Bluegrass.

    Ken, Toronto

  • I used to listen to Mac Wiseman on WWVA in Wheeling West Va. in the 50's while growing up in Toronto.

    Ken, Toronto

  • JIMMY MARTIN NUFF SAID

  • Bill Emerson on the 5-string!

  • Jimmy Martin I wish I would have seen him while he was around Poor Ellen Smith LOL

  • bill monroe is also singing

  • Jimmy Martin is the best. Thanks for the video.

  • wow!

  • Great job I love Mac Wiseman

  • Wonderful to watch! Thank you!

  • Wonderful footage. 1965 I had only been around one year then. Lord I've been missin out on some real good live stuff... Tenbrooks sounds great !

  • FINALLY I have found the "entire" version of Jimmy Martin playing Shenedoah Waltz off the High Lonesome vid. Although it does seem that there is a part missing in the middle.

  • i love uncle mac!!

  • I love your uncle too. One of my favorite singers.

  • Just kidding. Don't know him personally just have the same last name. Im from WNC in some way i am related to him just wanted to c what kind of reaction i would get. Dirty trick I Know

  • i am related to scotty and lulabelle though u kno who wrote "hav i told u lately that i love u" srsly :)

  • I was there, and what you see is the way it was. (My friend Phil Zimmerman and I ran the tape recorder for Ralph Rinzler, and so got in free. We didn't have to pay the $6 admission for the three days, camping included. :-) )

  • would love to seen that... dont know if i could afford $6 for three days, wow

  • I just realized that the tune that Mac Wiseman starts this set off with ("Six More Miles") is one he he played bass on with Molly O'Day -- which is where he got his start.

  • Jimmy Martin with Big Bill Emerson doing the outstanding banjo work.

  • and of course the great bill monroe

  • thats mac wisman also, wish there was more of him on youtube, this is just great

  • Good music -- back when Fincastle was an actual town. Sadly, Fincastle is now pretty much a suburb. Yet, if you know what roads to take, it is surrounded by some of the wildest greenest, freakin' breath takin' land one could ever hope to find. I live in Buchanan which is still a viable town but, pretty as it is, don't hold a candle to the wilderness still left untouched not far from Fincastle.

  • I completely agree that there are some beautiful landscapes. Road from Fincastle to New Castle is one of my favs.

  • hiya there, i think the great john hartford played the best bluegrass music on his banjo amazing to watch i love this music 5 stars for you super 10/10 for this video takecare andy

  • Like Part 1, this is a historic video. I hope anyone who saw the Stanley Brothers at Fincastle will get in touch.

  • Need to see more of this great bluegrass

  • this is great...and for the purests out there....make sure you note the snare drum in Jimmy's band....

  • this is the music my father is making me learn to play.. it has a kind of unique sound that rock and other stuff doesn't really pertain to have =]

  • WOW to only live back then and attend one of these outdoor concerts would be a dream

  • i always remembering going on trips with my grandpa and grandma listen to music like this for hours and hours..im not normal a big fan of this music but sumthing about the easy rythm and song gets me attached to it.

  • I would love to live back then things were so simple the music was great.I am such a big bluegrass fan and am trying to learn the banjo.

  • I met mac wiseman, when he came to england on tour in the late 70,s he was no more than 10stone in weight, he was a gentleman real nice guy, an I sang with him

  • These were the Masters of Bluegrass. There are some great people who have taken the torch that was passed and are carrying on this great, authentic music. Let's hope it never dies.

  • this is who we are, folks....thank god for the old folks...this is the voice of the world we were brought into.

  • wonder if any of those fans there knew at the time that they were watching pure perfection!

  • Golly, enjoyed this sooo much.
