  • He's doing a frikking drum solo with his left hand only - it's frightening. WEll done.

  • Damn, could I know where you got this footage ? I would love to see this show... If I understand correctly they also played Mekanik in the same session ? (see videos by theinsectmachine666 , it's the same stage right ? ) So anyway, if you remember where you got this, I'd be happy man, that would be a nice archive to add to my collection.

  • what a bad solo lol jk

  • what a bad solo1 lol jk

  • Ce mec a énormément de choses que n'ont pas les autres....

  • The picture quality and captioning remind me of thefirst pr0n videos I ever watched. Hell, the music does as well.

  • @mcgazz

    same here!

  • I loved this guy in "No country for old men"

  • @djcrowbar this was back in his early days, when he took out his sociopathic rage on a drum kit.

  • Vander was an interesting bird. On one hand a relatively fearless and gifted, if somewhat unpolished native talent. On the other a grandstanding parade major, more about the drumming as dance/performance art than profound explorations of the universe of rhythm. I've loved and hated him for 30 years now. Go figure.

  • The final correction is IS, not WAS. Magma is even now on their 40th anniversary tour, playing completely new music (seach "Felicite Thosz"), and though the 60-yr-old Vander has long ago left soloing behind, he's still the drummer, as well as composer, vocalist and soul of Magma.

  • I don't think it's grandstanding in any way. It's actually sometimes slightly embarrassing to hear Vander wail and screech in his vocals, or grimace during the music, and it's a similar outpouring of everything he feels within him in his drum solos. I can see how it might appear that way superficially--but this guy is for real.

  • I guess that is unschooled/unpolished, and I myself sometimes wonder if Vander avoids regular beats because he can't keep to them. But I respect the outpouring of energy in his drums and his vocals. He puts himself out there, and holds nothing back.

  • Maybe it helps to understand the way Vander takes his music as one with his entire being. He's not a man performing on the drums, he expresses the drums with his entire being--face, movements and gestures. It's why there are so many outbursts, musically unnecessary motions and vocal snippets in his drum solos (much like Keith Jarrett on the piano, I might add.)

  • As a hardcore Magma fan, I take offence at some of these comments, which strike me as off the mark in places, though I think I also understand well where you may be coming from with them.

  • Puke in my mouth <3

  • i like it when he starts jumping around.

  • I <3 love love Vender ..

  • Hey, where did you find this video and the De Futura performance? Is there a bootleg of this gig available somewhere?

  • Exceptionnel ... habité

  • I saw this group in Edinburgh in the seventies and what remained in my mind over the years was the drummer...awesome

  • seriously patalberg, STFU!

  • Hey, I wasn't trying to be a hater...just expressing my opinion, I DO think he's good, just not the best.

  • Hey, I have a right to my own opinion. I just thought it was going to be different. It's not like I said, "oh man, fuck this stupid gay shit, blahblahblah". I just stated that while it was good, I didn't think it was particularly mind-blowing. I'll bet a lot of stuff I like you would think is just 'pretty good' and not amazing like I think, Open your mind, friend, chill out.

  • If anyone wonders what this moron just said 'this music suckz

    LONG LIVE TO EMO'

  • Calla pedazo de estupido...atorrante e ignorante...VANDER ES UN MAESTRO EN BATERIA Y tu... un pobre diablo que le huele las axilas a los emos!!!

LET'S FUCK ALL EMOS IN THE WORLD HAHAHA!

  • Comment removed

  • Il a quand meme cree une langue.

    'Faut faire.

  • simply the best!

  • Pure percussion. Goes way beyond being a good drummer.

  • Nr 1 drummer in rock. Imagine Hendrix still alive around 1975, playing with Vander and Top - aaaargh! Would give "power trio" a whole new meaning, huh?

  • damn, yes indeed it would....

  • @DilettanteProduction Although Mitch Mitchell was pretty good too.

  • @DilettanteProduction just listen to Mahavishnu Orchestra from the same period, or even a bit of Eskaton!
