My friends and i are building a rope tow now for this winter, we are using a 6 hp verticly shaft lawnmower engine. we dont have snow yet but we were seeing if the rope tow would pull us if we stood still. and what happened was the engine stalled. we are thinking we need more pulleys since we dont have any. im just wondering if you have any advice for me we could really use it!
After removing the original bearings from the wheel, i was left with an empty hub measuring about 1 1/2 inch inner diameter. The output shaft from the gear box is 1 inch. Onto the output shaft i welded 4 sections of 1/4 inch Key shaft. I then slid the wheel on, with the help of a hammer and mallet, then welded everything solid. The wheel does not spin perfectly true but it works since it spins at slow speeds and because of the rope guides.
Pull or the amount of weight that can lifted, By reducing the diameter of the pulley, you reduce the load on the engine, giving you more power to pull even some fat bars***d up that hill lol
Awesewom, I always wanted to do this..... I like the Safety Feature Vise Grip... We have a great hill and need a rope tow!!

what kind of pulley are you using at the bottom?

From a snowblower. In fact for the most part the way the wheel turns is the same way the oggar turns on a snowblower. Cheers

Just a thought, Take the tire off and then wrap the rope around the wheel rim 4 times, this will increase the amount of pull you can get.

awesome, but what do you mean by the amount of pull?
