America was first to help the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic war. Outside of the Cold War era, Russia and USA have always been allies - and even though ideologically opposed during the cold war, we still helped each other out. @romulanify они были добровольцами. 3 авиаполка, 2 из которых в итоге стали смешанными, а вот "ведьмы" так и остались чисто женским полком. по-2 горел как спичка, близкий разрыв зенитного снаряда проходил его обшивку как горячий нож кусок масла, от истребителей пво спасала только темнота. так что их положение было не многим лучше камикадзе. и тем не менее, они доставили по назначению около 3000 тонн бомб и, что гораздо важнее, панику, хаос и смятение. это была просто другая страна.

Если я не ошибаюсь. длинных волос у "Ночных ведьм" не было. Марине Расковой в 1942г летное командование приказало всем ее летчицам волосы иметь не длиннее 11см. Девчонки плакали, но косы отрезали все.

@Okhlopkov The Baltic States were "collaborated" into invasion by 1939. I don't remember any of the Estonian, Lithuanian or Latvian leaders being invited to teh talks between the Nazis and Bolsheviks that sealed the deal. And the Poles were "collaborated" to death from two directions, fighting all the way. The Soviets took part of Poland after the war and enslaved the rest. And I haven't even mentioned the Ukranians, who were treated by the Soviets as the Jews were by the Nazis.

The Bolshevik Empire was based on theft and murder. The problem was that, once they had killed all the entrepreneurs, there eventually was no money left to pay the goons that kept the Soviet Union alive. When that happened, that miserable feudal fascist tyranny fell to pieces like a house of cards.

The Bolsheviks crippled the nation, and because they allied with the Nazis instead of the Allies they made it that much easier for Hitler to devastate the country - which, as bad as it was, was not as terrible as the Bolshevik campaign of terror during the 1930s.

At the end of the Bolshevik era, Russia was left a broken, disunited, polluted wastelend of crumbling infrastructure and backwardness. They are only now recovering.

@loveUSSR Yeah, right. The life in the Soviet Union was so very good, that armed guards with "shoot-to-kill" orders were kept on the borders to keep the people from escaping. The Berlin Wall was specifically designed to keep East Germans from escaping to the West. And in the "good old days", the Red Army occupied half of Europe as a Russian colony.

Compared to the cesspit that was the Bolshevik Empire, Russia is indeed recovering. For one thing, consumer goods are actually available now.
