Once again I feel I need to clarify my position because it is hard to be all inclusive in 500 characters or less. I do not believe Grant "deserved" to die. I believe that Mehserle was criminally negligent and as such absolutely he deserves prison time. But it is proven fact that Mehserle intended to tase, not shoot Grant. You can believe it or not, there is plenty of evidence to prove he intended to tase and literally none to the contrary. It was a tragic accident which both could have prevented

@teardoor Yes, it obviously does make a difference, and you know it. Mehserle intended to tase Grant. If he had been handcuffed, there would have been no reason to so much as tase. But he fought the cops, he resisted arrest, he managed to keep from being cuffed. So yes, it matters a hell of a lot. The "loads" of other officers were busy keeping the dozen or so people encroaching on the scene and refusing orders to stay back at bay. Had he not been resisting, they would have cuffed him. Simple.

Grant certainly did not deserve to die, but neither was he some innocent bystander. He was a violent career criminal with a history of resisting arrest, just as he has a history of doing numerous times. Had he complied and ALLOWED himself to be cuffed, he would have made it home to commit crimes another day.
