You're in a position where you could work part time in England for the Summer months and spend Winters in Spain... I imagine I'll do something like that some day, but in my case it would be Canada and New Mexico
I'm thankful that Jo and I area living the expat life and are free to move as needed for work. While we both enjoy living here in Dongtan, we're open to taking work where ever it may take us. I hope you get some amazing opportunities in the next year and can have some great adventures!
You have the perfect attitude - rather than winging about the change in your circumstances, you're looking at it as an opportunity and advantage. With that mindset and your creativity, you're sure to find the perfect solution. One that works for you and your wife. At this stage of life, that is what really matters. Now may be the perfect opportunity for you two to decide what you really want to do. I'm quite certain it will make the world a better place one way or another.
@thizizliz Whinging & moaning are a very easy option. But, ultimately, that's not going to get you anywhere. You are where you are, whether you like that, or not. That's something that a lot of people seem to forget.
If you can't change a situation, the best thing to do is to try & get the best out of that situation &, hopefully, make it work for you. It might not work, but it's sure worth a try :)
It would be nice to be able to earn just enough to "prime the pump" but be mostly retired. Unfortunately, I need to be earning a bit more than I currently am... As to living in Spain... well, that would be interesting! Don't know if I could live there, but then, I've never been. Hmmm... Never been to Spain, but I kinda like the music... maybe there's a song in that? I'll have to work on it.
@kenrg Maybe the song should be along the lines of, could i ever live in a country that i didn't like the music of? Id never thought about it that way before. But, that seems like a pretty sensible pre-requisite to me :)
Saying yes instead of no - this is similar to the principals of improvisation, now that I think of it. An improvised theatrical performance and "real life" each tend to thrive by applying this principal.
Not sure why I put quotes around "real life" instead of theatrical performance ...crap, I've done it again!
Hi Andy. You look like you are enjoying the hard life lol How about buying a little house in Spain and live there in the winter months of England? They are called Snowbirds here in Canada. The early retirees flock to Arizona and Australia in our winter months to their seconds homes living out of the country for half of the year. Best of both worlds ; )
@Pippilly Hi Pip. Believe me, if i had the money i'd do exactly that. I'd have no trouble being a snowbird. As you say, you get the best of both worlds.
Maybe i need to buy a lottery ticket this weekend? :)
I remember the video you made about living there. While the idea of moving to a vacation destination seems nice, I dont think I could live there. Im used to a much more lush landscape, its just not green enough for me:-) It is nice to consider pulling up stakes and moving on tho.
@1DRock37167 You've obviously got a good memory Daryl.
That area is a lot greener than many other parts of Spain, because of the mountains & the water that flows from them. It would certainly be a big change from the lush British landscape though.
Quite a turn up, moving to Spain. When you tweeted about learning the lingo I suspected as much... OK, I'm getting ahead a bit, but it's nice that you're able to keep your options open - keep us posted on all developments!
@willyIV Not moving Willy. I'd love some day. But, as i said, i don't expect it to happen.
Starting to learn the language is something i've meant to do for a while now & never got around to. If nothing else it will, hopefully, help on our next Spanish holiday.
@elad463 That grass is greener comment is very relevant. We all tend to think that way. But, you have to be careful, as the grass might turn out to be brown!

I love Spain, I visited Alicante while I was in the Marines.

@captainfury2007 I've never visited Alicante myself. I'd certainly like to see some more of Spain at some time.

@OhCurt My pleasure Curt. I guess that to improvise, you'd have to say "yes"? So, i get what you mean.

somebody's got to do it. I suppose people always think the grass is greener somewhere else. that is why you go and see if you are able.
