  • i find this image disturbing

  • I think I may be a bit of a masochist having now looked up what it is... ... ... HA, okay XD

  • Timmy the Dog is epic. The album 'Sit' may not be available for purchase, but it is available if you know where to look. Highly recommend getting it. Tim needs to hurry up and make another album like this.

  • 1:36 Enter your text here

  • Ah, my two biggest loves... Saxophone solos and Tim Minchin.

  • proud of my masochistic ways!!!!!!

  • I'm a masochist, I love to be talked down to and loved to be called whore and slut. I love the pain and humiliation. But remember every masochist is different in there own way <3

  • THIS SONG IS FROM 2001. FROM THE ALBUM "SIT". TIM MINCHIN AND TIMMY THE DOG IS THE BAND. GET THAT ALBUM!!!IT IS THE GREATES THING EVER!IS NOT AS GOOD AS TIM´S SOLO CARREER BUT IT IS AWESOME!!!MIRACLE ELIXIR IS MY FAVOURITE!!!!!SO RHCP LIKE!

  • @pickaflower Thanks for the tip!

  • @pickaflower you can't get it, it's not on sale anymore

  • two masochists in the bed room, now wouldn't that be a dangerous relationship

  • @Interessant11 It would depend on whether or not the sadism was more of a psychological or physical nature.

  • Pleasure is the act of listening to Tim Minchin.

The opposite of pleasure is a day when your Internet is out and you can't get to any of his songs.

  • @OisirM Get some on your iPod, for emergency cases :3

  • sadist may be having pleasure by not doing what the other persson does want him/her to do :)

  • i feel like dancing.....

  • Comment removed

  • Tim do a jazz album ...... Atheistic jazz baby!

Tim you rock! Well jazz... Well pop well....

If I didn't have you do someone else would do.... But who?

  • ITT: conflating dominance and sadism.

  • what show is this from

  • What a blinding bit of music , top form , to see in this list Tim compared to Zappa , and quite rightly so in my mind , and he is still young with more to come i hope . Seen him live 3 times and he just gets bigger and better , people like him are not fooling .

  • 11 people think hes a masochist

it just had to been done lol

  • i reckonise this ?? like with his voice aswell has he done it ages ago like with a band or something?

  • @bieberfeverhasspread he did it with his old band "Timmy The Dog" but sadly the album isnt on sale any more

  • this is some slick sexual jazz right here. muh fingas just snappin away

  • Had I not heard and loved the Timmy The Dog version for years before hearing this I'm sure I'd love this, but I adored the seriousness of the original!

  • It's strange that he revived this Timmy The Dog song, while its the most fitting from Sit, it still doesn't really fit with the rest of his material. Still, good song

  • There are other of Minchin's pieces I'd compare to Lehrer's work, but this isn't one of them.

This is much closer to Zappa than to Lehrer. Brilliantly inventive, especially rhythmically. The only similarity with Lehrer is the title -- and anyway, Lehrer's Masochism Tango was actually about being a masochist, whereas this isn't :)

I love them both, by the way ...

  • I just discovered this guy.. and he is truly awesome :D

  • "I'd rather watch an ameture dramatic musical version of Schindler's List!"

  • @planetofthescums Not to detract from your point - but Tim's Australian, so to say 'Musicans in the United States' immediately excludes him.

  • @Keldaryth Ahaha, good point.

  • 10 men in the world know what it feels like to staple your foreskin to the roof of a descending lift, and don't find it funny.

  • @jazzfusionforall - 12 now ^^

  • As hilarious as this guy is, for me the humor is almost completely overshadowed by his sheer amazing talent and innovation. To me, Tim's a genius, probably the only 'comic' that one would give serious repeat play.

  • Love the beat on this song.

  • Heres an interesting question for you, why do we call it googling, if the majority of the time we click on the wikipedia?

  • @Anime16Artist 'Cause you search Google first. (:

  • @lastofthebadmen Lehrer and Tim are completely different in style and execution, I guess Tim was inspired by the tango, but his music is entirely his own, Lehrer used alot of other pieces of music and put new words to them, comparing the two is not only difficult but almost entirely unproductive, Lehrer is probably closer to Amateur Transplants, while Tim more closely resembles Flanders and Swann

That said it's still a good song

  • @johnydl How can you talk like you have such authority when you say "I guess Tim was inspired by the tango"?

  • @superaled We all were inspired by tango.

  • @planetofthescums How? Three examples how.

  • @superaled Tango is a Latin beat, musicians in the United States have always been inspired by Latin grooves. Anyone calling themselves a musician are easily influenced by Latin beats, blues harmonies, etc. You can't escape it. Tango is often heard in its simplified form. Watch a video about Lalo Guerrero, someone you have probably never even heard about, or Santana. Listen to music before and after Latin music was heard on the radio. Examples: Elvis, George Clinton, Beatles, Everybody.

  • @planetofthescums You can escape Latin beats. Play atonal free improvisation/Aleatoric types of music and have no specific rhthym and you aren't play anything, just making random noises, like in No Wave or Punk Jazz.

  • @Lycanslayer3 Of course you can escape latin beats, you are taking this way too literally. Cuba is a latin country.

  • @planetofthescums Actually, you're thinking more primarily cuban beats. 2s against 3s, complex contrapuntal rhythms, retrograde triple rhythmic expressions, etc etc... tango itself is simply an offshoot.

  • SMOOOOTH & GROOOOOOOOOOOVY SOUNDS IN THIS SONG.

  • I really do love this guy, sadly his work was introduced to me by an ex of mine. Oh well! That won't stop me from loving this!

  • @facelessaphrodisiac same, but me and my ex are best mates now.

  • @fracturedempiricist well if you smoke on the flower is far better ahaha!

  • Well damn. Always pronounced Masochist differently... Suppose I never will again.

  • @Masterkavi How did you pronounce it?

  • a sadist is a masochist who follows the golden rule

  • mp3 please lol

  • @ExtendedWeekend buy the cd or get the downlaod at his website

  • yes, I suppose I am

  • why is it down as tim minchin? when its timmy the dog.

  • @AllThatIveGot1 as in from the famous five? what has he got to do with anything?

  • @bloodypedant Tim's old band Timmy The Dog did this song, though some of the lyrics are different.

  • @kpg3191 oh, thanks! :D

  • Very nice, but I can't figure out where I heard the instrumental part before.

    Anybody ?

  • I heard it in a song by Tim Freedman when he was in Sydney playing with the Sydney Symphony ^.^"

  • definitely a modern day tom lehrer

  • @jamessgray2010 I absolutely agree

  • Damn, I have to google him now :L

  • very true

  • nothing like Tom Lehrer.

  • the Masochist: -"Please, hit me!"

    the Sadist: -"No ... "

  • @heyawhaw the sadist would say yes.... masochist get pleasure from pain as where a sadist gets pleasure from inflicting pain

  • @vgirl120592 But sadists don't enjoy it because the masochists like it and it is technically not causing pain

  • @vgirl120592 yes, but as musicguy said it causes the masochist MORE pain because he doesnt get the physical abuse! which makes the sadist happy :)

  • @vgirl120592 The sadist would occasionally say yes. A large part of the sadistic mindset is to be in control. So, thus being able to control when she (the masochist) feels pain and pleasure gives the sadist a feeling of elation. Inflicting the pain after it is begged for is far more satisfying. It gives you power, and it gives you the pleasure of hurting, and even of pleasing your partner.

Just thought I would elaborate a bit.

  • @Masterkavi Best explanation I've come across. Because it IS mainly about being in control. The whole BDSM thing is about controlling and being controlled. Everyone assumes it's just causing pain/receiving it and it IS but causing pain is a way of being in control... Anyways, you explained it better.

  • @heyawhaw I love that comment :). 1 thing, is there not the potential for a paradox in the following manner?: Masochist craves physical abuse>>Sadist with-holds it>>Masochist enjoys psychological abuse>>Sadist dishes out physical abuse>>back to start.

Or is my masochist cheating by enjoying psychological abuse?

  • @Omnilegence I'm not sure, but I think both masochism and sadism only work with physical pain...

  • @Jaykay1029384756 Emotial pain aswell :3

  • @heyawhaw Good thing the only person to see me litteraly lol at your comment was my besty in the mirror or else people woulda thought I was crazy.

  • @heyawhaw anyone else: Sure! *nocks him out*

  • @heyawhaw Oh, that shit's fucking original.

  • He is brilliant, I just wish I could go see one of his shows, but I would only be able to go on my own as noone I know likes his stuff, so I just don't bother.

  • @Reubin100 ill go with you ;)

  • unless you have tickets I can't, I can't spring for tickets right now, any chance you could get some?

  • @Reubin100 Go on your own! I gave up pretending to have friends with good taste in comedy/music when I realised if I waited for them I'd never see any cool live acts... I have been to hundreds (getting on for literally) of gigs over the last few years, many alone.. It's still fun - honest! :)

  • @thelevellers Thanks, I sorta went to a live show of Iron Maiden's on the 16th, I made a vow of sorts to go to at least 6 shows a year, it is like my new years resolution, lol.

  • Sweet Sax part!!! (Although of course, second to the brilliance of Tim) but great nonetheless! :D

  • if i listened to jazz this would be my $#!T

  • A brilliant young rationalist writes a song, which takes a satirical and slightly enchanted look at sexual masochism in the first person, and performs it alone on a piano with some light instrumental backing.

I'm of course talking about the masochism tango by Tom Lehrer.

  • Tom Lehrer is great. But compared to Tim is simple, both musically and lyrically.

  • @lastofthebadmen

Tom Lehrer started it, and started it well. Tim Minchin has taken it to the next level. Now, what I'd like to see is a Lehrer / Minchin duet. It would be epic by definition. Better hurry, though, while Lehrer's still around.

  • @lastofthebadmen I still prefer the tango

  • @lastofthebadmen fair point but remember that there have been nigh on 50 years more music to influence Tim and there are much looser social morals restraining him. I think asking who is better is like questioning whether a seed is better than a flower.

  • I had uploaded one of the songs from Sit and Tim asked me to take it off. How comes this one is still here?

  • If this was recorded with his old band timmy the dog, does anyone know where I can listen to or download any more of their work??

  • go to the official tim minchin website and ou can download some free music there, including some of his older work.

  • Fking AWESOME Picture :D

  • I NO RITE!!!

  • Incredible musicians.

  • This song was part of his more "serious" album called Sit. It was made with his previous band, Timmy the Dog, so it wouldn't really be TOO comedic. It's still a nice song, though.

  • "Arguing on the internet is like running at the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded."

Learn it live it.. love it.

  • ha ha love it!!

  • I would have to agree that arguing is as stated, however there is some merit to debating over the internet. After all, name me another place where you can easily access information presented on any given subject other than the internet.

  • how about the library?

  • Very True

  • Library.

    Point, Player One.

    Fatality

    Victory Player One.

  • Okay, so you meet someone at a library, and you want to research a subject, you spend 10 mins finding all the books you want, and another 30 reading them. Now move to the internet age, you wanna research a subject, it takes you 30 seconds to type it into google, and find pages on it. Perhaps a tad early to be proclaiming victory.

  • on response to the earlier comment of Tim Michin could be the next George Carlin he'd need to wait some years first. Carlin got away with what he said because he was an old man. Tim is still young.

Although unless his humor dries up a lot it may not be possible.

(I know my spelling is bad)

  • I adore Minchin, but he is NOT gonna be the next Carlin. Carlin was in a class of his own.

  • You could say that. but he could just be called 'The Australian version of George Carlin' as Morcombe and Wise were called 'The Lower Class version of The Two Ronnies' where the Two Ronnies were in a class of there own.

It's the different ways people see things. I to do like Michin and Carlin. In my expriance they are nothing alike though.

  • revilo314 I commend your argument and love the Storm quote that you used! A true fan!

  • ok my bf heard the `i rather staple my fore-skin to the roof of a descending lift and now i`m not allowed near it for the next 5 minutes xD

  • LOL!!

  • wait, not allowed near the lift or your foreskin?

  • wooooo! fight everyone! let me demonstarte my superior powers against this irony fella - someone tell me where he is and i shall strike him where he stands, sits or rolls!

  • lol @ the YouTube wars below :P

  • larrrrrrrv the youtube wars.... lmao!

  • I love how he combines amazing music with intellectual humor. I love "Storm". Do you think he will be or already is next "Carlin"?

  • He definitely could be the next Carlin if he wanted to be.

  • Are you f**king two?

  • Do YOU really think that horton heard a who??

  • isn't this enough??

  • this is awesome, sounds nice and jazz =)

  • wait.... is he doing Dave Mathews?

  • GENIUS!

  • I think your Tim Minchin = )

  • Why don't people learn to spell YOU'RE properly?

  • Good grammar is hot. Thank God for intellectual people on the internet.

  • Yeah, it's sad how many people on the internet that barely know what grammar is.

  • I think you mean: "Yeah, it's sad how many people there are on the Internet who barely know what grammar is"

But I'll let it slide this time *wink*.

  • Meh, I was tired =p

  • Your a pedant.

  • revilo314 YOUR ignorance of the English language is the reason that YOU'RE unable to use it properly.

  • You're lack of understanding of irony makes me wonder why your on this page. Tim Minchin is all about irony.

  • My irony isn't as good as Tim Minchins, but you just didn't notice that I had used any. All that demonstartes is that you genuinely struggle with the different types of "Your" and as a result think that they are hard to handle, resulting in your eager correction of people. Truth is, any idiot can use them correctly, don't patronise people and then insult others' humour to try to cover your inability.

Grammar isn't intellectual, language is merely the plate upon which intellect is served.

  • Wow! I made a typo! I truly am an idiot.

Do you not think it is odd that I would make a mistake in response to a correction of the same mistake?

Nevermind, we might as well be 10 minutes back in time that you change your mind. Carry on thumbdowning.

  • FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!

  • Actually, Mythbusters made a lead balloon that floated, so that analogy does not work ;-)

  • Take heart, he recently released a new CD, the audio from his live show "Ready For This...?": a kind fan might upload a vid with a track some time soon :)

  • yeah, :"( lol

  • Love that song, and love picture you've used :D

  • What a GREAT tune!!! What a great musician he is...

  • I'd rather stapple my foreskin to the roof of a desending lift

  • might have made a few spelling mistakes there you knew what i meant

  • stapple?

  • Wow, this is really catchy.

  • really i think its one of his worst songs but i still do like tim even though he did this...
