Great arrangement, extended intro to set the mood. I love both studio and live version. Lee's solo on the studio version is so soulful and "said a lot" with not so much notes. Genius......
One of the best jazz performance i've found on YouTube. Guitar, keyboard, sax and drums well arranged. Definitely a must for every jazz lover. Unfortunately this performance isn't available on DVD. Isn't it ?
man that is great stuff ..i love lee but damn that drummer is MEAN!!!..i mean you cant help but hear it over everything else..jeez thats how you hold down a groove!!
It could be - for a fee. I saw the Montrueux (sp?) website and they sell many performances to video distributors - and this was one of the ones for sell.
Its really great to see Rit in this setting. Its very rare that you see Lee's video back in the 70's. Is there a way were I can also have a copy of this whole performance. I've been watching this clip these past months. I dont get tired of it. Thanks!
Yes this is a beautiful song indeed, except for the sax solo IMHO...
The keyboard intro is really really good, and it's always excellent to see Alex Acuña behind the drumset. Lee Ritenour has always been a great guitar player.
What is the smaller synth on top of the Yamaha GS-1 that Don Grusin's (not) playing? I can't make out the manufacturer on the back. I saw a clip of Chick Corea playing this one and I wonder what it is!
And yes, this song comes from the Friendship album, which you can buy as a double CD with "The Captain's Journey."
Damm! where did you dig this up from?!haha! Wicked!! this is the "Rit" that I like! his 70s stuff! (I liked some of his 80s stuff, but after the late 80s, I lost interest) I think this is from the Friendship album with another great track called "Bulliet Train"
This song was originally on the album called "Friendship." The first song wasd called Bullet Train, but this isn't that song. This concert can actually be bought but only by distributors - they alos do like a 20 minute version of "The Captain's Journey - Part 1 The Calm, part 2 The Storm"!!
@liveforfunk Except Ernie on sax who never ages cause he's always looked 50ish. lol

@joe700700 This was in 1979, and a great version of the track. Especially the Lee's solo is one of my favorite guitar solos!

Okay , cool ;)
I was almost about to try mailing & informing via Don's website , hehe ...
I enjoyed to watch this great clip agian .
Once that tight Acuna-groove is in the lock after
Don's intro ... what a set .
I remember seeing this clip at first on a Japanese site .
This fan had all kinda performances of Jazz-funk/fusion-artists .
The one from Lee and Friendship was the most vintage in the selection .
Peace !
