gosh - the memories of this speech ...... can anyone here tell me that date that Caroline went off the air .....i was listening to the moody blues 'nights in white satin' ...then ZIP.....259 Caroline died!!!!
brilliant!!! did not hear it at the time...was tucked up in bed, lol...but did listen to the last hour of radio london, which is what this broadcast by JW was all about. london had closed, and caroline was on her own.
A great video, really stiring speech by Johnnie Walker, i love Radio Caroline but she's just not the same on land! whats the name of the song being played in the back ground?
It looks like Radio Caroline and the other the '60's pirates will soon be in the news again.
In April 2009 there is a film called "The boat that rocked" being released.
It's set on a North Sea Pirate station in 1966, and will hopefully introduce a whole new generation to those great stations which were listened to by millions at the time.
this is so yesterday..THE BEST DAYS..damn shit radio today

This seems rather twee now, but for us 60's kids this was the start of the revolution against state oppression.
Sadly, in March 1968 the original Caroline was shut down, and for me the 60's stopped swinging.
Having said that, the 60's only swung in 3 streets in Chelsea. The rest of us watched it on the News at ten!! ;-)
