  • Reminds me of the lumiloops from Electroplankton. Man this is relaxing.

  • how do you get that effect????? from those other background guitars, sounds like reverse delay or something.

  • @invictorium he probably uses two different outputs, one clean and one with a fast and short delay, he might use something like a reverse reverb ore something, I dont't know.

  • Brilliant performance - thank you! Very unusual to haer this piece performed. Did you make the backing track yourself???

  • thumbs if rjd2 brought u here

  • thumbs for rjd2

  • its amazing... do you have the background tracks? in midi?

  • This piece (played by Pat Metheny in 1987) is in cd n. 3 of the compilation "Phases-A Nonesuch retrospective" There are 3 parts:

Fast-Slow-Fast and his total during is 14'43"

  • 夢の中にいるような気持ちいい音色ですね(´・ω・`)

  • ,brad, pinoy ka ba? astig. scho ako aral music.

  • whats the point of doing this as a solo performance? it sounds great, but if your by yourself, might as well choose something different rather than rely on a recording

  • well the point is that Reich composed Electric Conterpoint for one guitar soloist plus tape (and on the tape is 9 guitar parts + 2 electric basses)

The first who played that piece was Pat Metheny.

Is recording is not really good because we hear to much the soloist (he must really blend in the tape)

  • @nazarato

Pat Metheny was the first to play this???

    no kidding.

  • this piece is dedicated to him

  • @buell41 "Electric Counterpoint" is in "Steve Reich Phases-A nonesuch retrospective",a five cd' collection. Pat metheny plays that in cd number 3 (there are 3 parts: Fast/Slow/Fast during 14"43'. Year 1987

  • Just Fucking Brilliant!!!

  • awesome....try philip glass, or john adam ...

  • i think he is using a recorded sequence. isn`t it.

  • it is.

  • @sheftzus I think he's using a loop feedback deal.

  • @wardadams yeah idk...what the hells the rest of the noise then? i think he's playing along with a recording. it's def has other instruments in the waves. whatev who cares. i wish there was more original Reich up.

  • @wardadams No, it's a taped backing. It's scored for eleven guitars and two basses, but can also be played by one guitar with a recorded backing (as here).

  • what kind of effects is he using? i can`t see any plug or mic there.

  • its a minimalist technique. He has prerecorded loops all playing together at slightly different speeds, so that they gradually get out of time with each other and give the sense of being hypnotic. Its called phase shifting :) x

  • This piece isn't a phase piece. Drumming was the last of the phase pieces.

  • This man is right.

  • great shoes

  • agreed.

  • great song

  • One of my favorite Reich pieces. Beautifully executed. Thanks

  • Rad.

  • Wonderful! :)
