This is not the US version anyway.

You can tell during the final fight with all the "jump cuts" that are not actually jump cuts at all, just where the flashback sequences have been cut out...which are in the original US version.

There were also several other scenes cut previously that were in the original US version too.

This was essentially a "poor man's" version of Karate Kid with less then stellar performances but with much better choreographed fight sequences. In my youth I preferred this film to seeing Ralph Machhio get owned like a bitch the entire film all to a build up of a stupid crane kick in the tournament.

If u watch closely at 7:24 to 7:26 there's a cut and Kurt McKinney is suddenly in front of Van Damme and has already landed a punch to the stomach lol. This movie was directed by corey yuen, who choreographs a lot of jet li movies and directed KISS OF THE DRAGON too :). You can see a lot of asian style cinema in no retreat no surrender

no difference in the video versions between UK & US except the newer DVD versions are a lot longer but the scenes in question are of irrelevance to the plot and make the film really gay in my opinion. The only good parts in in the final fight scene with JCVD. We get to see important flashbacks with Bruce Lee when J?ason combats JCVD's moves (i.e, really fast stomach punches - on the springed bullworker, kicks and blocks - the wooden dolly and most importantly, the spinning kick.

Thanks for posting this version!! I think the US version cut out all the things that needed to be cut out. Even though the Scott and RJ scene w/ the skateboard was funny, it takes away from the serious 80's kickass attitude (which makes it so funny/fun to watch).

@modsoul325 agree, the parts cut were all gay and made the characters really lame, Jasons dad was a wimp, wimpering in hospital, scott and RJ were so gay and childish on the skateboard like little kids, ian reily was a lame champion and a right moron on the phone, Bruce Lee's dialogue was almost unrecognisable in the newer DVD version. This version is way better, if only the flashbacks to Jasons main finishing moves were included, this would be perfect.

Gay as fuck. Scott jumping over a low fence landing on a skateboard, gay as fuck. Jason throwing a fit in his bedroom as if hes just had a good tug coz his dad give him a bollocking for fighting, Gay as fuck. This version is the best. ahhhh... the good old days. even though i was born in the mid 80s, i still grew up with these movies. and in my opinion, nothing compares to the campy 80's style of cinema. from the bad acting and the horrible extras, to the way almost every movie had a moral and how all the directors and producers were on coke. it's just a nostalgia that brings a smile to my face.
