Won't it be good for Character Options to make an action figure of this. They've only released McGann's Dr as part of the 11 Dr set; a real shame it isn't available seperately. A figure of this would be cool.
The 'look' is interesting, but a bit too "Eccelston". I liked McGann's outfit in the movie. His sonic screwdriver is great but a bit big; wouldn't that be an interesting 'mine's bigger than yours' debate if the Dr's got together......
Finally a Doctor that wears more then one outfit! His other outfit was a a costume found in a locker. Not like he had much choice of clothing, this was just better then being naked. So, I'm all for this new outfit. Besides, it shows the harder edge he'll need for the Time-Wars.
Paul McGann deserves the chance to break out his incarnation of the Doctor to fans worldwide. The audio series are a bit inaccessible, and personally I find the writing in the audio series to be a bit heavy-handed: Somehow it just doesn't feel very Doctor Who to me. Yet without having very much experience with McGann's material, I still think he could be an awesome Doctor. I like his new costume design so far, seems like he's only wearing civvies underneath. That sonic is bossin' and big.
Paul can say its "bit of a lark" and I'm all for a bit of fan fun but why almost copy the coat of the 9th Doctor?
In that aspect it is slightly disrespectful to the producers and costume dept and Chris Eccelstone himself who all had input into the appearance of the 9th Doctor by pulling a cheap "lark" of a stunt and insinuating that the 8th Doctor was the first to wear the leather coat.
McGann's awesome as per usual. I still cling to the hope, someday we'll see the Eighth Doctor PROPERLY back in the series.
As much as I liked the long haired, frock-coated TVM Doctor, if that costume wasn't to Paul's liking and having to dress up like that again, stands in the way of him seriously considering returning, he should be able to change it. ANYTHING... just please have the McGann Doctor turn up again, when we least expect it.
I'm not sure if the outfit really suits how i picture 8 to dress [i adored his movie costume, personally]...but damn does that look good on Paul! *swoons*
It could fit on his back like a rucksack but it would be small enough not to get caught on anything and could be dimensionally transcendental so anything could fit in it.
Kids would love it too, suddenly their school bags would look more interesting.
I like Eight's new look. It was described as a transition between the Eighth Doctor's TV movie look and the Ninth Doctor's leather jacket, and I think it works that way.
I think it looks all right, though I do like the old suit partially because it was green (which is my favourite colour!). I'd like to see the end result though before I make up my mind on it.
@penninefilms unless they do a time war movie with regneration to the ninth doctor, or they make some multi doctor episode with the recent doctors, mcgan, eccleston, tennant, and matt smith
This look like it’s going to split Doctor Who fans into two categories, those who like it and those who don’t like it.
Honestly I don’t like it, it looks too much like Christopher Eccelston’s costume and with the bag he looks more like an art student then the Doctor. I prefer the original costume but I do like the new Sonic Screwdriver.
Thanks for uploading this! Not keen on the new gear, the coat would be fine if not for being in leather, which is all a bit too Eccleston, the Sonic is also heading into that new series frame work as well. It's as if the designers are trying to tie two seperate eras together, bridging the gap by slowly evolving itno Eccleston's look, when each Doctor should have their own seperate look. Also hate the bag, but he seems adimant that he's goona keep it.
@batmanmarch I don't mind the new look however I do think the old outfit suited him better and I have to agree with you about the seperate looks. I also have a Sylv, Paul and Sophie panel which i'm tempted to upload. Would you be interested?
@Davros663 Oh definately! I guess it's just a case of waiting to see if either the BBC and Big Finish actually decide to run with this new outfit for merchandising and stuff. I expect if they ever ask him back for the show, he'll insist of wearing this new outfit.
@batmanmarch In the panel with Sylv and Sophie he is asked if he would wear that outfit if he were to return to the show. His answer - Yes he even said he wears it to bed'. Hehe
@batmanmarch you do realise, the only two parts of that costume that were finished were the coat and the bag. it would look better when complete. also the screwdriver is actually supposed to be more steampunk while i do agree the blue light is similar.
@batmanmarch I would imagine this would be the clothes he wore during the Time War. Hence the leather stuff to make him look more like he's gone to war, and also like his experiences have hardened him - which is why the Ninth Doctor looked the way he did in the first place.
@jamesdean220103 He can go without it then when time comes for the 50th anniversary or a CIN Special. Then again, I think we as fans are more used to seeing the Doctor in a lengthy coat (dating back to the Tom Baker years).
For those familar/unfamilar with spin off meda: In the 8th Doctor novel Interference Book II, the Doctor sported a leather trenchcoat
an interesting look, especially the new sonic screwdriver. However, I think his movie costume suited him more -this is too much like the 9th Dr.

Personally I would see 8 wearing this during the war while his original costume was before the war broke out.

So this costume was done as a bit of fun, but its far too close to 9th Doctors outfit.

I think a leather school satchel would work.
It could fit on his back like a rucksack but it would be small enough not to get caught on anything and could be dimensionally transcendental so anything could fit in it.

I like it so far, as he says it's a work in progress, so I'm hoping that there'll be a winged shirt and cravat under the coat later in the design!
