  • Liege and Lief album is on my album wish list.

  • I've seen Fairport with and without Sandy Denny... But without Sandy Denny, they're just not the same... Sandy's voice is pure magic.

    :)

  • One to send shivers through the body. Probably the finest example of the gorgeous tone of her voice.

  • Liege and lief is in my top 10 albums of all time. and Sandy Denny is / was pure class. folk at its best.

  • Her voice is amazing, many thanks to the person who posted this. Beautiful.

  • Horslips are at Cropredy this year.Watch and be amazed.

  • @u1n2a3 Cropredy's still going? I'd love to go again. :D

  • Can't help going back to Country Joe's "Colors for Susan" (1968) on this one. Sure do love to hear Sandy sing in long meter. This is a masterpiece. It's even better now than it was in '69. I consider myself extremely fortunate that I caught a few of her shows before it was too late. Still missing her.

  • The bass shot at 4:01 penetrates deeply in the heart

  • I think this song becomes more beautiful everytime I listen to it. And I have been listening to it for at least 20 years lol

  • I can't think of any other song quite like this. It seems to be about to stop completely or gather pace. Love it, very unusual.

  • sandy may she rest in piece, the music she left is inmortal.

  • Balladeers, Minstrels, Raconteurs, Chanteuses are the real heroes of a culture.

  • Got goosepimples listening to this!!

  • One of the few voices that can make you fall in love with voices.

  • As always ...beautiful beyond genre, age, or 'style'....timeless and enduring ...the definition of genius, and the purpose of Art....

I know, I sound like a pompous ass..but I hope you guys understand what I'm (trying) to say...thank you !!!---Sigh....where have they all gone?? Who knows where the Time goes???...Who knows.

  • @farsajjj

you don't sound pompous, maybe you're an ass, but am with you and understand,

    xxx

  • @freespritz ...Hahahahah...!!!...ummm, gee..thanx?...from one ass to another...(we're all assholes on this bus mister)...i feel blessed to have been born in a time where great music and Art was being made, and I was there to hear it, see it, feel it...and share it with friends..ciao!...xxx

  • "at dark she followed him.. his teeth did brightly shine..", never fails, at that point the chills always go up my back..

  • A classic. My all time favorite folk ballad by Sandy Denny.

  • Ah Sandy Denny, the only guest vocalist on a Led Zeppelin track. Awesome!

Liege & Lief is 10/110. Such an album.

  • @cofpaddy - wow, l didn't know that, can you please say which track?

  • According to Wikipedia, on Led Zeppelin IV, she sang with Plant on The Battle of Evermore.

  • @sdgakatbk

Thank you so much! I love Robert Plant as well, but I find this cultural crossover very exciting. Heading back to the LZ records ...

  • That shows Zep had good taste.

  • Totally my favourite album ever. It opened my ears.

  • This does sound somewhat like Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane.

  • @ledzeprebecca Are you nuts??? Both awesome but totally different.

  • wroooooooooooom

  • One of my favourite Sandy/Fairport tracks.

Such a haunting melodic rich voice, sadly missed, but her music lives on forever.

  • The best female folk voice ever.

  • This is beautiful music. Thankyou for posting it.

  • :)

    Thank you!

  • Amen, AnnihilatingAngel.

I was looking for a description of sweetly alluring Sandy Denny's voice combined with Fairport Convention. You said it best: "Enchanted music." Great, great album.

  • A track that illustrates the beauty of Sandy Denny's voice.

  • Most of my favorite albums have to grow on me over time. Such was not the case with Liege & Lief: Instant rapture. This is enchanted music that transports the listener away from this grim & shabby "modern" world.

  • Wow, I can't believe this is on here.... the song just popped into my head after 20+ years, and I had to hear it again... Wow.

  • I've just discovered them--they were a name out there that begged, and I knew of Sandy and Richard. But what magic! Amazing!

  • Thanks everyone! Don't miss the documentary on Sandy Denny tomorrow night (22nd April) on Radio 2; or if you do miss it, catch it on the iPlayer!

  • For me :"Full Houses" & "John Babacombe Lee"(other line-up).In this, i recomend you "Unhalfbricking"(sorry for my english). If you like FC, HEARD ALL THEIR ALBUMS. SALUD

  • Yes, it is indeed a fantastic album - I've just discovered it myself and am very impressed! Can anybody recommend any other Fairport albums of the same ilk??

  • Also 'What We Did On Our Holidays' is an excellent album. My favourite track is 'She Moves Through The Fair'

  • Pretty cool, has a nice celtic sorta feel. I've listened to a few tracks of this album and i think i'll get it.
