What you fail to understand is that being good at guitar doesn't mean being technical. John Frusciante can shred, he just chooses not to. Malmsteen must be your god judging by how you think; he plays like a hummingbird on crack flapping its wings. John, albeit simplistic, can capture the big picture of whatever it is he's playing just as well as Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck can. They can make robots to play as fast as Malmsteen, but not to play with the judgment and emotion that John does.

@jfbiggestfan He has 2 SGs and a Les Paul- all from the 60s. He only uses the SGs when he plays with TMV or Pearl Jam and he used the Les Paul quite a bit on the SA tour
Gibson Black Beauty, is what you are talking about. Kinda different than les paul. In fortune Faded & Readymade yes, John plays on gibson. But I haven't seen otherside playing on black beauty. That white guitar in otherside and also in californication is a Gretsch White Falcon :) As i know, but i'm not sure, John gave it to his friend from Ataxia, Josh Klinghoffer:)
A Gibson Black Beauty is no different to a les paul standard except for the 3 pickup configuration and the middle pickup is only active when you put the selector switch in the middle, I have one. And its not 'kinda different' to a les paul, it IS a les paul...........Les played one himself. And yes john gave the black beauty away but live he has been seen playing a amber burst les paul jf custom.

First off, your guitar isn't really sounding funky, Les Paul is a bit more rock-style-ish guitar.
Second, Frusciante is the best guitarist, and just because you can't play like him, doesn't mean he sucks right away. Listen to what people say and what could be done better next time. Don't just say someone sucks because you can't play like him.

He's been playing guitar for 20 + and he still plays the same stuff and he still doesn't know how to solo. That video from a couple years ago where he "jammed" with John Mayer and Derek Trucks was embarassing and hard to watch. I actually felt bad for him. He sounds like he's been playing for a year. I think John Mayer was thinking, "what is this guy doing here?"

I don't know what you're hearing, but this riff of yours, it sounds nothing like Frusciante. If you think it does, then you just proved how much you suck as a person. This is about as far away from Frusciante as that fake RHCP Teen Spirit cover (there is a real one, though, but a fake one, too).

Hey, it's a nice tune - your a better guitarist then most youtubers out there so there's the props. Just try to make it more round, add some of that emotion stuff and it'll sound better.
Mute strings, don't hit each string perfectly. That's more Frusciante style. I mean it's funk/rock stuff not jazz.
Not bad at all, some nice ideas in it. I did find the choice of chords rather stale and 'standard' if you know what I mean. What makes Frusciante's style so great is the way he changes mode or inserts weird chords (Under the Bridge is a fine example of this).
And don't listen to 'u gt 2 show EMOTION!' comments. People who say that have absolutely no clue about making and playing good music.

Wow, you have no idea what you are talking about. Soul has nothing to do with hitting the strings hard like Frusciante does. It has to do with the notes you choose to play and how well they voice what you are feeling. Frusciante plays kinda like Tom Morello in the way that he likes to hit the strings hard. His playing is more anger than soul. I'd say listen to Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, or Slash if you want to hear soul.

Why do I need to "feel" anything, it's just a video. Soul is a matter of the notes you choose to play, it is choosing which notes convey how you are feeling. Soul isn't the tone of the guitar or how hard you hit the strings. Tone helps express yourself, but it's not "soul."
I think Frusciante looks like he's playing with more soul than he actually is because he opens his mouth all the time and closes his eyes. Solos like Scar Tissue and Soul to Squeeze are very simple with minimal notes.

John made up the chords? That's probably one of the most ignorant, uninformed statements ever. There are only so many types of chords you can play on a guitar. John didn't invent any of the chords I played. The chords I used are probably centuries old.
Frusciante's style is great, but his big influence is Jimi Hendrix. Listen to Electric Ladyland and Axis: bold as love and you'll discover where Frusciante found his style.
I have to disagree with this statement here, I can say that he has veered away from his "Hendrix" style of playing lately but you can definately hear the influence in his earlier playing.

just because he cant play a fucking blues with two dickheads, doesnt mean he cant solo. there are plenty of OUTSTANDING solos! hes just not the guy who can give 100% everytime he plays a show, cause he is not a performer. but when you see solo stuff performed in front of smaller crowd... man there you gonna see whats up.

Either you watched the wrong movies, wrong live performances of John Frusciante or just you don't know and haven't seen enough of him to be able to judge his guitar playing like that. John frusciante is a great guitarist player and beats John Mayer on all grounds.

I don't know what you're hearing, but this riff of yours, it sounds nothing like Frusciante. If you think it does, then you just proved how much you suck as a person. This is about as far away from Frusciante as that fake RHCP Teen Spirit cover (there is a real one, though, but a fake one, too).

This doesn't sound like Frusciante at all. It sounds very monotonous to me. Like your're playin guitar since two years. You feel like you can make a "riff like JF" but the riff sounds more like you are changing three powerchords all the time. And the timing.. (;

Hey, it's a nice tune - your a better guitarist then most youtubers out there so there's the props. Just try to make it more round, add some of that emotion stuff and it'll sound better.
Mute strings, don't hit each string perfectly. That's more Frusciante style. I mean it's funk/rock stuff not jazz.

Not bad at all, some nice ideas in it. I did find the choice of chords rather stale and 'standard' if you know what I mean. What makes Frusciante's style so great is the way he changes mode or inserts weird chords (Under the Bridge is a fine example of this).
And don't listen to 'u gt 2 show EMOTION!' comments. People who say that have absolutely no clue about making and playing good music.

Man you have to feel it don`t be scared of hitting some notes not "clean" , just put on some death notes and play more smooth.....by the way: nice guitar, but I like my Fender Closet Classic Customshop Strat even more :-)

Wow, you have no idea what you are talking about. Soul has nothing to do with hitting the strings hard like Frusciante does. It has to do with the notes you choose to play and how well they voice what you are feeling. Frusciante plays kinda like Tom Morello in the way that he likes to hit the strings hard. His playing is more anger than soul. I'd say listen to Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, or Slash if you want to hear soul.

Why do I need to "feel" anything, it's just a video. Soul is a matter of the notes you choose to play, it is choosing which notes convey how you are feeling. Soul isn't the tone of the guitar or how hard you hit the strings. Tone helps express yourself, but it's not "soul."
I think Frusciante looks like he's playing with more soul than he actually is because he opens his mouth all the time and closes his eyes. Solos like Scar Tissue and Soul to Squeeze are very simple with minimal notes.

tbh feeling in ur playing is sumit u should look into, how u hit the strings and ur tone does contribute to feeling its a fact and john does put alot of feel in his solos ever listened to i could have lied or wet sand? his bodys reactions to wat he plays is just what happens when you play the guitar and it happens mostly to those with feel and soul in playing. but ur vid is gd just some parts arent totaly jf style

Frusciante's style is great, but his big influence is Jimi Hendrix. Listen to Electric Ladyland and Axis: bold as love and you'll discover where Frusciante found his style.
