I don't know...I just can't dig Bad Company...it's like Free seemed more Raw and Nasty while this feels too slick and cliche, and Mick Ralphs in Mott was a bad MF, so every component of the band has done something I find incredible...Maybe it's the production??
I just can't get into this band as much as I want to and I keep trying to give them a chance. I love Mott the Hoople, I love Free...So why is this so awful to me??
@TheFlite29 Paul Rodgers will go down as one of the greatest blues rock vocalists of all time- Simon Kirk creates the perfect beat. In this genre, very few rein in their company.
@TheFlite29 Awful? Paul Rodgers has the most amazing rock blues voice of all time, and if you like Free, you know this. Simon Kirk provides the perfect beat. It's hard rockin "guy music" somewhat, but the quality survives. Bands can't play this tight very often, and the vocals are uncomparible.
@TheFlite29 because Free was edgy and raw and natural, they weren't polished. You'll notice when he was younger, Paul didn't smile nor did the others, somehow that was sexy. They were all into their own thing.Paul also seemed to sing in a lower range, less showy, seemed more organic. Now he smiles alot, looks more showman and polished. It's a natural progression, the guy's older and truly enjoys what he does, and I think that's great, but I think I was more turned on by the simpleness of Free
hey whats the guitar being used by Dave in this video i know its a Les Paul, but I can't find it anywhere so far so yeah also really really awesome song
it's a 3-pickup Les Paul Custom. Could have originally been a 2-pickup version and the third has been added, but its most likely a custom-order guitar - the original 3-pickup customs are pretty rare.
If you listen to the guitar you will hear where the Edge got the first of many of his ideas for re-inventing the guitar; which he did; of course: but Paul Rodgers and his mates SHALL be written; as his band Free was one of the TWELVE.
I met him and the lads when Nick Lowe was running things at Nomis Sound in Shepherd's Bush when I and my guitarist Chris Lind went to visit; we got there 3 days after "the beast" of Led Zep had died; John Bonham; and he died 3 days after Bon Scott died.
it was great 10 rows back center stage my ears rang for days. Hart did well with them but the in fighting started early. they did have pretty good commercial success but his voice was very close to Pauls and people were missing that so the albums sold well. they had to get a court order to stop Howe from touring under the bad co name after things were over for him. He and Simon didnt get on to well after a few weeks. Shame about Boz it would have been nice seeing them together one more time
I live in South FL where they shot the DVD last year at Hard Rock. They are coming back to same place June 17th with Paul, Simon, and Mick. It's only one of 10 shows. Thank god I moved to Boca Raton. I got tcikets today and so excited i can't stand it
This was an awesome concert! Live in the Paramount in Denver. They told us it was going to be a live DVD and CD. Seen them first around '75 in an outdoor concert when I was 15 - they just get better with age!
hes a great drummer, very rock solid and dependable..but doesnt come near bonham! ;) and yes Ludwigs were the top brand back in the day..sadly their customers are no longer important to them :(
Oh man you are right about Simon. Superb drum sound on that album. But Mick was kickin' ass on the guitar too!!!!! "Bucket" was great on the first Robert Hart Bad Co album. Company of Strangers was so solid, but then the mysterious Stories Told and Untold....some good stuff on it, but it was like a contractual fulfillment sounding thing. Robert seemed to be doing his best Paul-style singing, but still, that line-up was pretty good.
they are wesome man in concert the people that go i try to do it like the live versions i know some these tunes, i seen them at the ole st martin bar room in town my pa is their daddy's right hand man ya know the cajun mafia rodgers rejoined after the houma show he was nothere
Paul Rodgers has been very successful in every band he ever had: Free, Bad Company, The Firm, The Law, and him solo. And what a sexy voice he's got, too!!!
ROLLING STONE voted them one of the most musically talented and greatist Rock & Roll bands ever formed but never recieved the recognition they deserved unfortunately.A very talented group!!!!
bad co is a ledgendary band and i believe the second band to ever sign to the swan song label (the first being zep) though i'm not a huge fan of single guitar group's (i think it greatly hurt's live performance's)both zep and bad co is the backbone of hard rock today
Excellent quality, amazing undiscovered song, a band that is far gone from the lime light is still rockin and sounding the same way they did back then.
Thanks for the great vid, and thanks for the memories Paul.
paul rodgers and simon kirke get it done just as good as they did with free.simon is a great meat and potatoes drummer, just watch the live youtube version of free/mr. big and youll see what i mean.
It's not Mick Ralphs playing here, but Dave Colwell. Saw this incarnation of Bad Co at Hammersmith Odeon in London and Mick joined them on stage. A great gig (as always!)
the guy w/ all the silver rings on his right hand is Mick Ralphs, if you go to his website & click on photos, you can clearly
see this, however there is another guitarist w/ ralphs in one of the photos that looks almost exactly like Ralphs, maybe this is Dave, not sure, but in this video the guy playing the black 3 pick-up custom les paul w/ all the silver rings on his right hand must be Mick Ralphs..Or is it??!!
Afraid we'll have to agree to differ on that! I maintain that it is Dave Colwell, but not going to fall out about it. This video is taken from the Merchants of Cool DVD, which doesn't mention Mick Ralphs. They do look quite similar tho'. Whatever....
Without Mick, the Bad Company sound is totally lost. I also loved singer Robert Hart. He sounded like a fresh young Paul Rogers. They got their Bad Co. sound back with Robert Hart on vocals and I think Paul Rogers got paranoid they were able to replace him and that's why he reunited with Bad Co.. Lucky for Rogers they let him back into the band.
I just saw them this week at Jones Beach N.Y. great show, Pauls voice is better then ever Mick did pretty good missed a few que's went off on a few tangents but did well. i saw this line up ( Jazz and Bucket) also i gotta say they were damn good. I know Simon liked this line up better then any other that they had. Brian Howe couldnt hold Pauls microphone and Robert Hart was just a Rodgers immitator. Paul never quit the band they just needed to stop for a bit things were getting crazy.
Sounds like it was a great show. I liked the freshness of Robert Hart. Especially the fact they made 2 great album with him. Company Of Strangers was an awesome CD. Back to the classic Bad Co. tradition like "Judas My Brother; Little Martha;Abandoned&Alone;Where I Belong" all great tunes written with the new freshness they lost since Paul Rodgers left the band. I'd love to hear Rodgers do any of the tunes off Co. Of Strangers. I wonder if they have any new material with Rodgers in the works?
What a voice!!
