with respect, i don't agree with the steps you outline here. I've seen people learn the box this way and it doesn't get the best results.

the best way to learn to box, the only way to learn it properly, is if you can do the shower well in both directions. learning the shower reverse is very hard and takes a long time, but it is worth doing. when you do the box, it is plain to see that your left hand is throwing the middle ball quite a bit up, a lot more than your right hand.
