I feel this album ranks up there with: The Doors (1st), Jefferson Airplane (Surrealistic Pillow), Led Zeppelin (2nd) and others. A well thought out and crafted album with musical genius all over it.
Joe Walsh never wrote a dud, or a useless filler song. I been looking hard. I have 5 cd's of his music, james gang, and solo releases. I havent yet heard everything he made, or was a part of, where every song was anything less than great. The Beatle's can't even make that claim.
@pigurine I'm not dissin' the Beatles. They are amazing - and it's not just baby boomers that love them.
BUT, and George Martin will tell you that, the Beatles drew strongly on the music from their youth and history. They will tell you that they were influenced at least by Johnny Mercer.
All music grows from the last. One builds up on the other. The Beatles learned from Elvis, Punk/New Wave grew out of the Beatles, current Dance/Pop/No Doubt came out of Punk and now Hip Hop. It's all connected.
@RhythmUniverse AHHH STICK THAT HIP HOP UP UR A@#, HOW DARE YOU EVEN PUT IT IN THIS KIND OF CATERGORY.THERE IS NOTHING MUSICL ABOUT IT, I CAN SIT HERE AND RYHM ALL DAY LONG, AND ADD SYNTHISISED STUDIO GARBAGE TO IT TO IN THE STUDIO.ITS ALL JUNK..OK FOR INSTANCE...I FUCKED MY DADS MOM AND SHE FUCKED ME , I THINK ILL PISS ON THAT TREE.BASICALLY IT
@JoblessNhappy Can you say "Got any Gum" and "Ordinary Average Guy" albums??? He did rebound with "Songs for a dying planet". He has volumes of recorded work not published. Look out in the near future. Trust me. I was a member of the now defunked Joe Walsh fan club.
Seems Joe has always been able to punch you right in the heart while shredding his guitar ("Walk Away,") and songs like this or much of "Barnstorm."
For an "Ordinary Average Guy," who has never taken himself too seriously just listen to the beautiful arrangements of his music, and the lyrics that pull you in.
It's in B Flat because of the horn arrangement. Most brass instruments are in that key.
