  • Thanks for posting this, now i can sew my pointe shoes elastics and ribbons in a more correctly form

  • You can sew double elastics crossed. Some people would take class like that, but there's a long tradition of having ribbons sewn on pointe shoes, certainly for stage.

  • i just bought some pointe shoes and obviousvly i dont want the ribons on it , is just elastic safe? can i sew it crossed?

  • ?_?

  • You can sew ribbons on the inside through the lining without going through the satin with your needle.

  • how I sew the ribbons in the inside without that the stiches look on the outside??

  • Comment removed

  • Okay stop bad mouthing the video okay! You can sew it on the inside OR outside. If you sew it on the outside, it prevents blisters. It's the dancers decision on which way she likes it.

  • this is all wrong

  • Feel bad for the person who has those pointe shoes ..

  • gross

  • Sewing on the outside helps prevent blisters and is fine for use in class. Perhaps for stage one would sew them on the inside.

  • i dont get why all u guys are bein so picky i mean to me sewing them on th ouside sounds better because i would prefer to get less blistars and no one peers at the heels of your feet enough to notice

  • She can sew the elastics on the outside if she wants to.

She just trying to help so you guys should be thankful.

  • ummm... the elastics don't go on the outside... that's ugly...

  • That just looks bad :(

  • Never sew anything on the outside of your pointe shoe... EVER...

Also, you should sew your elastics in an X across your foot so you have more support.... she doesn't know what she's talking about. I hope people don't follow this tutorial

  • There is a lot of misinformation in this this video and comments.

    1. She can sew them as she wishes. With pointe shoes, the way that they're sewn, is largely an issue of aesthetics. They become unimportant when the shoe is worn to the point of shoe death. All that is important is that ribbons and elastic are firm against the foot.

    2. Waxed thread can be used specifically for pointe shoes, but how else do you think that people sewed ribbons in without waxed thread?

  • she did it wrong ! you have to angle the ribbons .... so they wrapp nicer around your leg .... if you just sew the ribbon vertical like that it will fold over when you tie it around your leg ..... and you dont sew the elactic on the outside , thats just looks UGLY ... i dont think she knows what shes doing ...

  • the ribbon shouldn't be on where the flid is. It should be where you arch is on the shoe. It would hold the your foot better.

  • what if you need to sew the elastic also in the heel area for the ribbon to loop through ... no one has a video on itt.... ughhhhhh

  • So you want to sew the ribbon on the outside of the shoe? No.

  • the ribbon is on the wrong side of the shoe.

  • o ogd some husband and wife got stug by 100,000 times and the kids the boy 500 the gir 200 oh and cool vid and plus i was watching animal planent

  • the thing with the ribbons is wrong, though. You always want the FLAT side to show, not the shiny side. My teacher is a famous ballerina who danced principal roles in major ballet companies and had teachings from a lot of different trainers. All of them said that the shiny side shouldn't show at all- and they're pros.

  • The flat side is meant to hold better against your tights. The shiny side is too slippery. The shiny side is meant to show so the ribbons look like satin.

  • why shouldnt be shown?

  • @jazcutie567 ya but that just looks stupid , it should match the rest of the shoe ....

  • Arent you suppost to sew the elastic on the inside

  • whatever your preference is. some people like to sew it on the outside so it won't rub against your heel. but if you don't want it to look messy then you can sew the elastic on the inside.

  • idk if you said this but if you actually sew with dental floss(nonwax non mint) it helps to keep your ribbons and elastic on place better than regular thread

  • That's rediculous. You're supposed to use waxed thread. They MAKE waxed thread specifically FOR pointe shoes.

  • personally, my teacher told me to put my ribbins on an angle, and to sew the elastics in the inside . . . but i guess it depends on the person

  • Thank you so much! this is perfect for a first time pointe dancer

  • i think the elastic's should be sown differently depending on the persons foot

  • Thank you...good info!

  • i think the elastic is very ugly on the outside. i see the point that was made, but cosmetically...its very blah

  • i have never sewn my elastics on the outside. always the inside.

  • i was totally clueless until I watched this vid. My dance instructor told me how to, but I didn't understand. Thanks for the help!

  • The video is fantastic! Great details and a huge help! My mom says that you saved her life!

    :)

  • I dance here and I LOVE It!

    Thanks Merry!

  • I have never sewn my elastic on the outside...

  • this is reallyy goood

  • BLOCH!!!! hehehe thats what i have! Yay! Mine are alpha 3.4 shanks (: oh and i think she did a good job sewing them! (:

  • why put the elastic on the outside?? what happens in a show? That is just really ugly

  • That would never show from the stage and if sewn well it does not look ugly. The risk of getting your heel ripped up from the elastic rubbing on the inside way outways the ugliness that you are worried about.

  • From my experience I think you're putting you're ribbons way too far down. They will not give any support.

  • The shoe is what gives support . The ribbons are to hold the shoe on and I feel where we place them helps snug it into the instep better. I like the pull it gives the shoe when placed at this point.
