  • Joe Turner , Undisputed boss of the blues, long may he reign.

  • For all who're interested: Rock & Roll cannot be attributed to a single entity except to the man who coined the term. That was Alan Freed. He would introduce his radio show by telling the audience "We are gonna rock and we are gonna roll". Eventually, it became just "We are gonna rock & roll". There was no difference in the music before or immediately after he coined the term. The music was mostly "boogie woogie", which was dance music carved from listening music, combined with "Jive" music.

  • The immortal Big Joe Turner, as important as anyone in the history of Rock 'n' Roll music, or for that matter, Blues, Swing, Big Band, etc.

  • Big Joe Turner influenced the "Daddy of Rock and Roll" Bill Haley. They were close friends and used to go fishing.

  • Big joe !!!

  • Happy 100th Birthday Big Joe!!

  • Big Joe born 100 years ago today

  • I remember playing this on the juke boxes in the coffee bars, the black cat ,Scotties etc in west london. I loved Corrina Corrina by Joe Turner, Magic stuff. The early stuff of Bill Haley, such as Dim Dim the lights, greentree boogie & the like were as you will know good early R&B. Happy Baby is another to me anyway great track. Keep em coming .

  • i saw him at the gm pleasure spot in la marque when i was 15 yrs old man what memories

  • I really LOVE Big Joe Turners music!

  • Hey Big Joe............

  • wasn't this featured in the film, chicken run?

  • @tycchaus Ahh, Chicken Run... What a great movie. If I think I know what you're thinking of, the song is called "The Wanderer" by Dion. It's also here on Youtube. Good music.

  • Joe Turner is a legend.

  • the lyrics were rubbish but still makes you want to dance

  • the latest addition to my karaoke list

  • When I hear the early r&b from this time period I often wonder if I should have been born in 1932 instead of 1962. This stuff is just off da chain!! Great post!!!

  • I've always thought that Chuck Berry is the king of rock'n'roll, but now I do have a doubt...

  • @Davis752

Big Joe Turner already was too old in 1955 to become a real rock and roller. Even Bill Haley seemed to be a liitle bit too old for teenagers. But Bill was 30 and more than 15 years younger than Big Joe Turner. But I love and adore them all.

  • @Davis752 Rightfully so. Big Joe was singing what is referred to as rock and roll as far back as the late 30s, only then it was called "Boogie Woogie". His song "Shake, Rattle & Roll" is the flagship for the genre. It was later covered by Bill Haley & the Comets, as is usually the case when African-Americans created a musical movement, and it was later 'gentrified'.Big Joe laid the foundation for early R&R. Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, you name them. Big Joe was the father of the back beat.

  • Good animation! Fits the tune.

  • Great music and vid, Joe. Trivia question for you: Which was the first chart hit ever to have the word "Rock" in it?

  • Great Video and Song !!!! Love It :-)) 100*s

  • WOnderful tune,great vid :))

  • Another great song/clip Joe... 5*,, many thanks Sara xx

  • Thank you! Joe Turner was early Rock'n'Roll, but the name was Rhythm'n'Blues, or like they said before; race music. Bill Haley changes the way with Rock Around The Clock, See You Later Aligator and Shake Rattle and Roll. But I will always remember Big Joe Turner.

  • it was the blues brothers right?
