McGuinty has added more to Ontario's debt than any other premier, despite bringing in the largest income tax increase (the so-called health tax) and the largest sales tax increase (his HST tax grab) in Ontario's history. During his 8 years in office, he has increased government spending by 77%, during which time Ontario's economy grew by just 9%. As a result, Ontario's debt has increased by 73% under McGuinty to a whopping $257 billion. He is currently on pace to double Ontario's debt by 2012.
McGuinty's 2011 budget failed to provide much needed relief for families. Instead, what he produced is nothing but a prescription to raise taxes. After 8 years, we know he can only be counted on to do 2 things increase government spending and then raise taxes to pay for it. His budget numbers don't add up. The budget revealed revenues are forecast to drop this year, yet the government's deficit reduction timeline didn't change. That means one thing he will raise taxes again to compensate.
Looks like Dumpster Diving Dalton is Done in this fall's election, leaving Ontario with 4x the national debt. I'd like to see him spend his retirement years breaking rocks beneath a rusty windmill.
Vote for him. Go wait hours upon hours in emergency, have tuition go up by ludicrous amounts, have your child's class sizes be in the 30's again, have employment rates go down. If you enjoy all that, then by all means, because after all, you're saving about $1000 in taxes. Totally worth it.
You people disgust me. All you want is to have your cake and eat it too. Its your fault we have Harper in office, its your fault Dalton has to be "Premier dad" because you continually prove yourselves to be completely incompetent to make your own decisions. Good decisions aren't all cheap and easy. Honestly, it makes me sick that I have to be in the same species as some of you people.
THIS GUY IS THE BIGGEST LIAR POLITICAN OF MY LIFE TIME – DO YOU REALLY BUY THIS?? REALLY?? ORGANIZE AVERAGE PEOPLE!!! PLEASE!!! HE LIES AND LIES AND THEN BRIBES US WITH OUR OWN MONEY?? WAKE UP --- DO YOU LIKE INCREASED HEALTH CARE TAXES? DO U LIKE PAYING HST? DO YOU LIKE BUSTING YOUR HUMP AND NEVER GETTING AHEAD? DO YOU LIKE BEING LED BY SOMEONE WHO IMPOSES WHAT THEY THINK IS GOOD FOR YOU WHEN THEY ARE COMPLETLY OUT OF TOUCH??
@courtneypepe1 Where are you pulling that out of, your ass? Nothing you said makes any sense I guess tories speak like this: OMG DEY SUK Y U NO BELIEVE, and us Liberals actually use punctuation, facts (backed up and legit, not pulled out of our asses), and we unite people instead of dividing them. HST was a tax cut if you knew ANYTHING about taxes at all, and saves businesses tons of money. Dalton is more in touch than Hudak, Eves, or Harris will ever be.
@Tilbily What are you talking about? The deficit is down from the days of Mike Harris (who singlehandedly destroyed our education and healthcare systems, resulting in massive school closures and ridiculous wait times at hospitals), and Ontario has never been in better shape in the last 15 years.
@lightdark99 , in better shape that your gimpy here Dalton drove up Ontario's debt to over $200 BILLION dollars. Heavier debt-ridden than the much-touted debt of California. PRemier Dalton the Economic Destroyer.
@Tilbily Because we don't have the shortest wait times in Canada for hospitals, classes under 22 from pk-gr5, and the highest graduation and literacy rate in Canada, right? You're just a hired gun by the Tim Hudak campaign. I saw those craigslist ads, disgusting.
@lightdark99 , you're the one who looks at Dalton's horrible poll numbers and declares everybody else must be a hired gun for Hudak. Hilarious. Dalton the Destroyer is done in Ontario.
@Tilbily No, just people like you. Those polls are fixed, McGuinty isn't as bad in the polls as people say he is, and Hudak is doing an extremely sneaky "down to earth" campaign on facebook and twitter. He's not premier material, and he does NOT deserve to run the largest province of Canada after what he did in the Harris and Eves days. I would rather John Tory, because he is smart and competent. Hudak, is not. I'm not a Liberal, just someone who knows half a damn about politics.
I went out for dinner, but watched the results afterwards. Dalton McLiar and Warren Kinsella simply proved that they CAN lie to all of the people part of the time, and part of the people all of the time. The question NOW is "How many promises is Dalton going to break THIS time?". They kept him in such an airtight bubble that he refused to come to an all-candidates meeting in HIS OWN RIDING.
Making Ontario a place that attracts business and makes it profitable for them to be here IS efficient, and certainly more so than punishing them for trying to be successful; THAT'S your answer. Enjoy voting for someone who will gladly look you in the eye and lie to you because he thinks you're too stupid to know the difference. ;-)
It's certainly MORE efficient than driving business out of the province (or out of business altogether) by stealing money that they earn through their own hard work. Why should anyone start a business (a business that employs other people, people who also end up paying taxes, BTW), when the government is only going to PUNISH them for doing so? Would you not rather have people working than living off the rest of us?
Stacey, c'mon. I lived through Reganomics and Thatchernomics. Tax cuts = more biz is a lie. It certainly hasn't stopped biz from leaving Canada and the US. Harris cuts taxes for biz and us, yet shifts the cost for the cuts to the provincial debt. Tell me--because you've still avoided the question--how is that efficient? How is that living within means? How is that "paying the rent"? Answer please.
McSquinty most certainly DID have a choice, and it's the exact same choice that everyone who draws a paycheque has to make; live within your budget. If you have to choose between buying a big-screen TV and paying your rent, you can't rob from your neighbours and claim it's an "entertainment premium". He certainly doesn't sem to have any problem passing out millions to his pals, does he?
I agree with living in one's budget, and I keep making the case that HARRIS did not do that. He paid for YOUR tax cut by increasing the provincial debt. Would YOU say that that is "living with your budget"? McGuinty PAID OFF the $5.6 billion mess Harris left, and yes, he did that in part by raising IN PART the taxes Harris cut. Good job if you ask me.
As difficult as it may be for you to understand, when you make a place attractive for business, you INCREASE revenues, you don't decrease them. More jobs means more people working, which means more people buying, which means more people paying taxes, which means more revenuse available for the "not necessary, but nice to have" things that the left is so enamoured of.
Because it's hard to say anything positive about someone that steals your money, lies to you, and then says "Trust me, I'd never screw you over for the umpteenth time in a row". Is it THAT hard to figure out?
Funny, I swear Stacey is talking about Mike Harris and his tax cut that cost Ontarians BILLIONS in increased debt load. I don't care that McGuinty broke this promise. He had no choice and any conservative who knows the facts about Harris will admit it....except Stacey, who prefers to live in dreamland.
No, that's what they SAY they put the "premium" (read: "TAX") in for, but the truth is a little different now, isn't it? When the LIEberals decided to play this little bait and switch game with the voters of Ontario, they played up every last cent of the deficit they could, knowing that the money they were stealing from us was going to go into general revenue, and from there, they could spend it on whatever the hell they wanted.
I wonder where you get your information. If you're thinking about that cricket club getting a few million, that wasn't because of the Liberal Party itself, it was one of the ministers responsible for that (forget which ministry). The money from the premium is seperate from the money that the guy misused.
Among other things; how many OTHER "liberal-friendly" ethnic organizations were presented with a bucket of cash to ensure a healthy supply of "volunteers" come election time? That wasn't the LIBERAL'S money to reward their supporters with, it was the people of Ontario's. And if you truly believe that all of McSquinty's health tax went to health care, I've got some sea-side property in Saskatchewan you might be interested in.
Again, this is not really hard. The Liberals put in the premium to pump money into the health care system, because of Harris' cuts. Do you deny the $5.6 Billion deficit and the part it played in the health care system?
In other words, cheryl, you're saying that Ontarians should just bend over and take it up the hoop again, because when weasels like McGuinty LIE to us, they think they're doing it in our best interest. YOU may be happy being lied to and having your money stolen from you, but I'M certainly not.
Money stolen from us? How Stacey? Is that like Harris funding a 30% tax cut through raising the province's debt by billions of dollars? Who's the real thief here darling? We've been paying for 8 years of Harris ruin, and we'll pay for it in years to come.
All conservative-all did/doing terrible. Since when has the Canadian dollar been so high? ONLY when the conservatives have been in. When the LIBS were in, it was 65 cents. Nobody knows jack shit about politics, I used to work in the provincial legislative chamber and talk amongst the politicians, also hear what they had to say. PC is joke LIB in not much better but is better NDP is worse than both and green is....well......green.
Doofus, why is it that when McGuinty came in he was crying about the deficit left behind by the PCs, but now (after he's picked all of our pockets) he's claiming he has a SURPLUS equal to the deficit he was left? If he's right, he had NO NEED to steal from us, let alone lie to all of us about "no new taxes".
That's right, enough of a "surplus" for Dalton and Co. to hand out millions of dollars to their pals, all while stealing our money and claiming that it's for health care. At the time he was elected, he claimed that the only person in Ontario who DIDN'T know there was a deficit was Eves, but as soon as he was in, he changed his tune to "Deficit? There's a deficit?" And that's only the TIP of the iceberg.
As mentioned in another post here, the money from the premium and the money from the overall budget is different from that of the ministry which mishandled the money. The main budget (or whatever)would allot a certain amount to that ministry, the money is seperate, just as the money for the healthcare system is seperate.
And how do we know what Eves knew? (Sorry if I misread your point) The premier is part of the loop here. As someone who went through the Common Sense Revolution, I'd think that Eves would know a lot. The Fianance Ministry wouldn't keep him out of the loop. It was even the Conservative Auditor General that assesed the economic situation after McGuinty came in.
Please don't tell me you want to go back to the Harris/Eves days, because that's the alternative to McGuinty, and if you compare the policies of TOry to that of Harris, there might be a similarity here.
McSquinty claimed that he knew that there was a deficit even before he was elected; that being the case, he had no business making the sort of promises he was making. However, he NOW finds it convenient to play this "Deficit? Quelle surprise!" game, to try to take some of the heat off of himself for lying to every voter in Ontario.
Also, considering that the Liberals have done more than the NDP (Rae Days) and the Conservatives (Harris, that's all I need to say). And bloodrage, after holding a candle to the PROVINCIAL PCs (because provincially the liberals haven't been in power in the province for 13 consecutive years, we ARE talking about the provincial level and NOT the federal level here, are we?), I kinda don't want a $5.6 billion deficit again.
You conservatives are a one trick horse, we have explained WHY the province needed the premium...already...many times. On the commercials on TV, all I hear from the PC is dalton bad this or dalton bad that. I've yet to hear their platform (on the tv).
So tell us Stacey: are you personally going to pay for the 30% tax cut your talented leader Harris gave us? Tell us Stacey: where does hospital funding come from? Tell us. Thin air? And while you're at it Stacey, pay a visit to Caledonia. Maybe you can take a page from Mike-the-liar who "didn't" say "get the fucking Indians out of the park." Great strategy, that was.
mike harris was the best thing ever to happen to Ontario, he ran the province like a business and put on ONtario back on the map. He made it a place to do business again...You can't honestly like that sleazbag, lying, lawyer, sack of shit robot?? And who is Stacey??
When the government doesn't steal our money, we're allowed to spend OUR money on what WE want, not have a weasel like McSquinty steal it so he can pay off his pals. LIEberals always figure there'll be another tax to raise, another pocket to pick, and another voter to lie to.
Like a true Tory, you still haven't answered the question Stacey. Mike Harris added BILLIONS to Ontario's debt in order to finance his tax cuts. Who will pay for them? We do...NOW. Conservatives need to point their fingers at themselves. All we got from them is 7 dead people in Walkerton, a murdered Dudley George, and a lying Harris. Pathetic. Own up Stacey.
Without businesses to provide jobs, who exactly do you plan to tax into the poorhouse, Calvin? Harris's tax-cuts made Ontario an attractive place to start and run a business after the Red Boob nightmare. You can blame the half-wit running the water plant for Walkerton, and you can blame the extortionist Indians for playing games that get them shot.
I agree with you about Rae; no fave of mine. But you must know that neither Tory nor McGuinty nor anyone can make jobs happen when manufacturing is leaving the province to head south. In any case, Harris's cutbacks lead to evisceration of proper surveillance, such as Walkerton. Harris's approach to "Caledonia" would be shoot first. More dead FN people? More dissention? That's leadership?
So, how are HIGHER taxes supposed to do anything but drive MORE businesses out of Ontario, fool? How many people do you need looking over YOUR shoulder to make sure you do YOUR job, Calvin? (Assuming you HAVE a job). And no, it shouldn't be necessary to shoot ANYONE, unless they start shooting first, but all McSquinty is doing is caving in to the Indians' blackmail; how come THEY'RE above the law?
I am not saying that higher taxes are the answer to anything. Yet the US and Canada have already the LOWEST tax rates in the West. Simply put, Canada can't compete with Mexica and China, and never will, unless WAGES (like yours?) come waaaay down. Who will pay for everything then? As for FN, the situation is more complex than "arrest them." And please, lay off the name-calling. Try to be a little civil.
Yet, that's exactly the effect of McLiar's policies; we all pay an OBSCENE amount of tax already, most of it on things that the government has absolutely no business gouging us on. As for the Indians, if THEY can blackmail the government by burning a few vehicles, blocking roads, and beating people up, why can't the rest of us? I'll call a spade a spade and a fool a fool, thanks.
Well, Stacey, I won't call you a fool, but I will call you misguided for you Ayn Rand ideals. In any case, I'm not responding to you anymore, since you're continually avoiding answering my questions. Besides, DM will win anyway, thank god. Too bad for Two-Time Loser Tory. Adios.
Look where the health care system is now, it was better than it was before. While we are talking about liars, let's remind people that a certain party (hint: not the liberals) left a deficit of $5.6 Billion. They did not tell the public and left it to the next government (hint: not the PCs) to pick it up. That was probably the reason behind the heath premium, because the predecessor almost devastated the health system, and there wasn't enough funds in the budget.
I guess McGuinty is a liar for trying to fix what Harris, and Eves broke. Yes he introduced the Health premium, he was FULLY aware that he was breaking a promise and he admitted that it was a tough choice. Admitting you're breaking a promise is more leadership than the person who says "leadership matters". He had a choice, either make cuts to the health system, or introduce the premium. If you look at it, which is better? An underfunded health or a healthcare system that has money in it?
We now pay more taxes for health care, but in the same announcement, lost more health care benefits such as eye care. Lets not forget that tuition freezes are a thing of the past. So now our children can have 50000 dollars debt when they finish university. All that is OK though, because if he is elected again, we get a stat holiday in Feb.
I'm sorry but what is all this about the tories lying about the deficit??? They didn't lie, all the information is available by the powers of the Freedom to Information Act. The Liberals knew damn well what they were doing and they knew damn well that they were going to break their promises. Now that the liberals have downloaded so many social programs to municipalities, cities like toronto are in HUGE debt and are going to suffer....at the hand of the liberals.
Get your facts straight. It was Mike Harris that downloaded programs such as welfare, affordable housing, etc. to the cities, not Dalton McGuinty. Harris had to pay for his tax cuts somehow and that was one of his methods, in addition to running up a $5 billion deficit. McGuinty has started the process of uploading programs from the cities back to the province. Breaking something takes a few minutes; putting it back together can take years.
If McGuinty was genuine about being forced to introduce the health tax then he'd use the $2.3 billion dollar surplus he just "found" to eliminate or at least phase it out.
John Tory said he'll eliminate the health tax, but in a CBC article McGuinty said that he wouldn't because it would be irresponsible.
Yeah - with an election looming it would be damned irresponsible, because then the Fiberals wouldn't be able to buy votes with *our* money.
Hey! I see your leader came aboard with his "principled" stand on religious school funding. Sooo principled that he's flip-floped on the issue. Tory talks a nice line about leadership. What a loser and a liar.
The video forgot to mention that the McGuinty government passed Bill 130 giving municipalities more power. One such power was to appoint their own ombudsman/investigator (to investigate themselves!) Also McGuinty trumpeted that municipalities would now be more accountable --then he extended municipal elections to four years making them less accountable.
You can't suddenly shut down every coal plant, obviously, unless a good portion of Ontario is OK with living without power for awhile? McGuinty is making great improvements to Ontario's "environmentally-friendliness" status, and his ideas are promising. He did shut down one coal plant, and reduced our reliance on coal by one third. No, it hasn't all happened at the snap of a finger, but we ARE ahead of the game, and we have Mr McGuinty to thank for that.
How about the 4 years of no teacher strikes?Test scores up by 62%, drop out rates down, 70% of students are in smaller classes (I've seen these results 1st hand)..
..3000 nursing positions, 150 health care teams, and 11 new hospitals created, wait times are down.
Strategic plans made in wind energy and our greenspace...
Top 3 concerns of the average voter: education, health care and environment.
Because you are a gullible idiot. You only mention the things he did, because the liberals did jack shit in 13 years and can't hold a candle to what the conservatives have done in 2-3
Yeah, like Mike Harris. Look what he did in his tenure. Why, he balanced the budget...by raising Ontario's debt by billions!! Why, he cut taxes by 30%...and now everyone wonders why Health Premiums went up. Why, he wanted "the fucking Indians out of the park"...then had other people lie for him when we all know he said it.
I think calvin said it all right there, you're really not making any sense.. "You only mention the things he did", well of course that's what I'm going to mention. You can't argue with facts, and education and health care have been absolutely fantastic in the past 4 years.
Either way, it's fine that you disagree, I can respect that your opinion is different.
You're 17. You know shit about shit and the only reason you support the liberals is because you're hippie teachers and parents brainwashed you into thinking they are worthwhile
Half a million people who didn't have family doctors before have one now, that many less in emergency rooms. Stats prove that it's better now than it was before.
My parents are not Liberal, and my teachers are non-partisan with students, other than one hardcore NDP.
But you're right, I'm only 17, I don't know what I'm talking about. You know me so well.
Now THERE is an argument worthy of a tory: attack the person because his own argument can't be defended. Way to go blood; you've definitely proven yourself to be the fool you are.
And, hey, blood, I see that you and your leader have new footwear: FLIP FLOP! Yeah, now there's a leader eh? Soooo principled. Now we all know why Tory did it in the first place: not because he has principles but because he thought that the religious funding would buy votes. Principles my fucking arse.
Flip-flop? Even though I believe that religion is a superstition that has no place in schools, Tory isn't saying ANYTHING different than what McGuinty HIMSELF was saying before the last election; ie. if it's good enough for the Catholics, it should be good enough for everyone else too. Or does that only apply when you're telling lies to get elected?
Poor Stacey. Can't admit it when her leader Harris, oops, I mean Tory reverses his position. Do you HONESTLY think he would have backed down had he thought that he could still win the election? Hardly, and you know it. The guy pushed the issue to win minority votes...and it backfired. Good. And you know damn well that not ONE of the leaders would rescind Catholic funding.
Again, what "flip-flop"? It's not an issue I particularly CARE about, but if you value fairness, then every religion/superstition should be treated equally.
Either the Catholics shouldn't be allowed their own system (and EVERYONE has to pay into the non-denominational system), or parents should have the right to send their kids and their money to the religous school of their choice. That's all Tory is saying, and you know what? It's exactly what that lying weasel McGuinty was saying before he became premier, too. Now, who exactly was "pushing the issue to win votes", Calvin?
Well, Stacey, you're right about McGuinty's previous pronouncements. All I can say is that I'm glad he changed his mind (inasmuch as I'm glad he "listened" to what his finance minister told him upon assuming power and levied the health premium), and time shows us he was on the right side of the issue. So, Stacey, are you now saying that Tory is following the (smarter) McGuinty?
I'm simply saying that what is "fair" doesn't change depending on whether or not someone is elected; the main reason McGuinty has done a complete 180 on his former "principled stand" is because he doesn't want the teacher's union pissed off at him. If he wasn't such a lying slimeball, McGuinty would at least stay consistent, instead of saying one thing beforehand and another afterwards.
You're probably right about this. And I don't think Tory or the NDP guy whazzizname would either. I don't think any religion should be funded. But let's face it: politics is the art of the possible, and in Ontario that ain't possible.
I see. When McGuinty makes a necessary reversal to stanch the blood flowing from Harris cuts, it's called a "lie." But when Tory changes his mind, it's called "listening." Can you say "spin" for me? As for school funding: I went to a Catholic school and I say NO funding for ANY religious schools, including Catholics.
Hospital waiting times are as long as ever. I was just there, and I waited for over 6 hours before I finally left and went back home to take care of myself. If you don't know, don't talk crap.
Give it a rest. I've been a consistent user of our health care system and it's excellent, given the resources. Excellent. The Peterson Liberals did NOT ante up the debt the way that the lying Harrisites did.
You wish wait times are down. You probably haven't stepped foot in a hospital back then and nowadays. It's as bad as ever. Wait times are not any better and you would know that if you went to any hospital.
Err, you know me so well? I've been to the hospital many times, thanks. Now don't start being condescending with me, you're the one who doesn't know what "wait times" means. It includes treatments and procedures for all sorts of things (MRI's, cataracts...), and yes, wait times are long but they are lower now than they have been in a longtime. You can even track that progress online now.
Agree with Lynne. I suffer from a long-term illness and have been in many a hospital, and I have never had anything but excellent service. Ditto my very large family. blood obviously got the exception and is now trying to parlay that into the rule. Sorry buddy.
Hey buddy! Election is over! and guess what. TORY LOST. Yeah! Your prophet is a two-time loser, like the party he leads. Time to rethink your politics, bub.
The Conservatives claimed they had a balanced budget. Instead it turned out they flat out lied and had one of the biggest deficits in Ontario history. In light of this, it understandable why Dalton had to break his promise. Conservatives seem to forget that it was their $5.7 billion lie that caused the health care premium to be implemented in the first place.
Yeah, and look at the conservatives. Why, once in power, Mulrooney simply upped the national debt. Then look what Harris did in his tenure: fucking havoc for which we are now paying. Thanks Brian and Mike.
what does that have to do with that lying sack of shit McGuinty?? He was fully aware of the fiscal situation when he took the reins, and he went on to break every single campagin promise he made? Oh, but he fixed the huge car racing problem in Ontario??!!! FUCKING TOOL
Please. "Broke every promise." You're looking foolish now. I don't care that he "broke" the health premium promise; I'm quite happy to pay my share. It seems that Harris and his 30% tax cut left little choice. Tell me, o wise one, who was going to pay for that cut? You personally? I don't think so.
I was at the all-candidates meeting; does this lying turd McGuinty simply not care to audition for his own job, or is he happy taking it for granted?
StaceyC123 5 months ago
Making Ontario a place that attracts business and makes it profitable for them to be here IS efficient, and certainly more so than punishing them for trying to be successful; THAT'S your answer. Enjoy voting for someone who will gladly look you in the eye and lie to you because he thinks you're too stupid to know the difference. ;-)
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Hey Stacey! Didja have fun Wed night? Man o man, what a rout! Better go back to Ayn Rand and your ouija board. lol!!
calvintoronto 4 years ago
Still no answer. As I said above, adios. Have fun wasting your vote.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
It's certainly MORE efficient than driving business out of the province (or out of business altogether) by stealing money that they earn through their own hard work. Why should anyone start a business (a business that employs other people, people who also end up paying taxes, BTW), when the government is only going to PUNISH them for doing so? Would you not rather have people working than living off the rest of us?
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Stacey, c'mon. I lived through Reganomics and Thatchernomics. Tax cuts = more biz is a lie. It certainly hasn't stopped biz from leaving Canada and the US. Harris cuts taxes for biz and us, yet shifts the cost for the cuts to the provincial debt. Tell me--because you've still avoided the question--how is that efficient? How is that living within means? How is that "paying the rent"? Answer please.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
McSquinty most certainly DID have a choice, and it's the exact same choice that everyone who draws a paycheque has to make; live within your budget. If you have to choose between buying a big-screen TV and paying your rent, you can't rob from your neighbours and claim it's an "entertainment premium". He certainly doesn't sem to have any problem passing out millions to his pals, does he?
StaceyC123 4 years ago
I agree with living in one's budget, and I keep making the case that HARRIS did not do that. He paid for YOUR tax cut by increasing the provincial debt. Would YOU say that that is "living with your budget"? McGuinty PAID OFF the $5.6 billion mess Harris left, and yes, he did that in part by raising IN PART the taxes Harris cut. Good job if you ask me.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
As difficult as it may be for you to understand, when you make a place attractive for business, you INCREASE revenues, you don't decrease them. More jobs means more people working, which means more people buying, which means more people paying taxes, which means more revenuse available for the "not necessary, but nice to have" things that the left is so enamoured of.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
You know what, why do most Conservatives that are on youtube make all sorts of negative comments?
dofer490 4 years ago
Because it's hard to say anything positive about someone that steals your money, lies to you, and then says "Trust me, I'd never screw you over for the umpteenth time in a row". Is it THAT hard to figure out?
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Funny, I swear Stacey is talking about Mike Harris and his tax cut that cost Ontarians BILLIONS in increased debt load. I don't care that McGuinty broke this promise. He had no choice and any conservative who knows the facts about Harris will admit it....except Stacey, who prefers to live in dreamland.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
No, that's what they SAY they put the "premium" (read: "TAX") in for, but the truth is a little different now, isn't it? When the LIEberals decided to play this little bait and switch game with the voters of Ontario, they played up every last cent of the deficit they could, knowing that the money they were stealing from us was going to go into general revenue, and from there, they could spend it on whatever the hell they wanted.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
I wonder where you get your information. If you're thinking about that cricket club getting a few million, that wasn't because of the Liberal Party itself, it was one of the ministers responsible for that (forget which ministry). The money from the premium is seperate from the money that the guy misused.
dofer490 4 years ago
Among other things; how many OTHER "liberal-friendly" ethnic organizations were presented with a bucket of cash to ensure a healthy supply of "volunteers" come election time? That wasn't the LIBERAL'S money to reward their supporters with, it was the people of Ontario's. And if you truly believe that all of McSquinty's health tax went to health care, I've got some sea-side property in Saskatchewan you might be interested in.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Again, this is not really hard. The Liberals put in the premium to pump money into the health care system, because of Harris' cuts. Do you deny the $5.6 Billion deficit and the part it played in the health care system?
dofer490 4 years ago
In other words, cheryl, you're saying that Ontarians should just bend over and take it up the hoop again, because when weasels like McGuinty LIE to us, they think they're doing it in our best interest. YOU may be happy being lied to and having your money stolen from you, but I'M certainly not.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Money stolen from us? How Stacey? Is that like Harris funding a 30% tax cut through raising the province's debt by billions of dollars? Who's the real thief here darling? We've been paying for 8 years of Harris ruin, and we'll pay for it in years to come.

Nobody knows jack shit about politics, I used to work in the provincial legislative chamber and talk amongst the politicians, also hear what they had to say. PC is joke LIB in not much better but is better NDP is worse than both and green is....well......green.
cheryl1307 4 years ago
Doofus, why is it that when McGuinty came in he was crying about the deficit left behind by the PCs, but now (after he's picked all of our pockets) he's claiming he has a SURPLUS equal to the deficit he was left? If he's right, he had NO NEED to steal from us, let alone lie to all of us about "no new taxes".
StaceyC123 4 years ago
A surplus in the BUDGET. There is still the deficit. What this means is that in the Liberal budget, there's some extra money.
dofer490 4 years ago
That's right, enough of a "surplus" for Dalton and Co. to hand out millions of dollars to their pals, all while stealing our money and claiming that it's for health care. At the time he was elected, he claimed that the only person in Ontario who DIDN'T know there was a deficit was Eves, but as soon as he was in, he changed his tune to "Deficit? There's a deficit?" And that's only the TIP of the iceberg.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
As mentioned in another post here, the money from the premium and the money from the overall budget is different from that of the ministry which mishandled the money. The main budget (or whatever)would allot a certain amount to that ministry, the money is seperate, just as the money for the healthcare system is seperate.
dofer490 4 years ago
And how do we know what Eves knew? (Sorry if I misread your point) The premier is part of the loop here. As someone who went through the Common Sense Revolution, I'd think that Eves would know a lot. The Fianance Ministry wouldn't keep him out of the loop. It was even the Conservative Auditor General that assesed the economic situation after McGuinty came in.
dofer490 4 years ago
Please don't tell me you want to go back to the Harris/Eves days, because that's the alternative to McGuinty, and if you compare the policies of TOry to that of Harris, there might be a similarity here.
dofer490 4 years ago
Whatever Tory might be, he's no "conservative"; given the choice, I WOULD vote for Harris, certainly over the likes of the LIEberals.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
McSquinty claimed that he knew that there was a deficit even before he was elected; that being the case, he had no business making the sort of promises he was making. However, he NOW finds it convenient to play this "Deficit? Quelle surprise!" game, to try to take some of the heat off of himself for lying to every voter in Ontario.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Also, considering that the Liberals have done more than the NDP (Rae Days) and the Conservatives (Harris, that's all I need to say). And bloodrage, after holding a candle to the PROVINCIAL PCs (because provincially the liberals haven't been in power in the province for 13 consecutive years, we ARE talking about the provincial level and NOT the federal level here, are we?), I kinda don't want a $5.6 billion deficit again.
dofer490 4 years ago
It was ALMOST consecutive. Only 1 or 2 minor years that Canada was not under Lieberal dictatorship
bloodrageX5 4 years ago
You conservatives are a one trick horse, we have explained WHY the province needed the premium...already...many times. On the commercials on TV, all I hear from the PC is dalton bad this or dalton bad that. I've yet to hear their platform (on the tv).
dofer490 4 years ago

bloodrageX5 4 years ago
This guy is a lying scumbag. Only a few of the reasons I won't be voting for him include:
- "No, I won't raise taxes, honest", followed by a huge tax increase;
- his idea that government should steal property from Ontarians in order to stop other criminals from stealing it first;
- his do-nothing approach to Caledonia. If any OTHER group did what the natives are doing, they'd be in jail right now.
- his "divert, delay and hush it up" approach to the OLG retailers' con job..
StaceyC123 4 years ago
So tell us Stacey: are you personally going to pay for the 30% tax cut your talented leader Harris gave us? Tell us Stacey: where does hospital funding come from? Tell us. Thin air? And while you're at it Stacey, pay a visit to Caledonia. Maybe you can take a page from Mike-the-liar who "didn't" say "get the fucking Indians out of the park." Great strategy, that was.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
mike harris was the best thing ever to happen to Ontario, he ran the province like a business and put on ONtario back on the map. He made it a place to do business again...You can't honestly like that sleazbag, lying, lawyer, sack of shit robot?? And who is Stacey??
olddman 4 years ago
When the government doesn't steal our money, we're allowed to spend OUR money on what WE want, not have a weasel like McSquinty steal it so he can pay off his pals. LIEberals always figure there'll be another tax to raise, another pocket to pick, and another voter to lie to.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Like a true Tory, you still haven't answered the question Stacey. Mike Harris added BILLIONS to Ontario's debt in order to finance his tax cuts. Who will pay for them? We do...NOW. Conservatives need to point their fingers at themselves. All we got from them is 7 dead people in Walkerton, a murdered Dudley George, and a lying Harris. Pathetic. Own up Stacey.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
Without businesses to provide jobs, who exactly do you plan to tax into the poorhouse, Calvin? Harris's tax-cuts made Ontario an attractive place to start and run a business after the Red Boob nightmare. You can blame the half-wit running the water plant for Walkerton, and you can blame the extortionist Indians for playing games that get them shot.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
I agree with you about Rae; no fave of mine. But you must know that neither Tory nor McGuinty nor anyone can make jobs happen when manufacturing is leaving the province to head south. In any case, Harris's cutbacks lead to evisceration of proper surveillance, such as Walkerton. Harris's approach to "Caledonia" would be shoot first. More dead FN people? More dissention? That's leadership?
calvintoronto 4 years ago
So, how are HIGHER taxes supposed to do anything but drive MORE businesses out of Ontario, fool? How many people do you need looking over YOUR shoulder to make sure you do YOUR job, Calvin? (Assuming you HAVE a job). And no, it shouldn't be necessary to shoot ANYONE, unless they start shooting first, but all McSquinty is doing is caving in to the Indians' blackmail; how come THEY'RE above the law?
StaceyC123 4 years ago
I am not saying that higher taxes are the answer to anything. Yet the US and Canada have already the LOWEST tax rates in the West. Simply put, Canada can't compete with Mexica and China, and never will, unless WAGES (like yours?) come waaaay down. Who will pay for everything then? As for FN, the situation is more complex than "arrest them." And please, lay off the name-calling. Try to be a little civil.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
Yet, that's exactly the effect of McLiar's policies; we all pay an OBSCENE amount of tax already, most of it on things that the government has absolutely no business gouging us on. As for the Indians, if THEY can blackmail the government by burning a few vehicles, blocking roads, and beating people up, why can't the rest of us? I'll call a spade a spade and a fool a fool, thanks.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Well, Stacey, I won't call you a fool, but I will call you misguided for you Ayn Rand ideals. In any case, I'm not responding to you anymore, since you're continually avoiding answering my questions. Besides, DM will win anyway, thank god. Too bad for Two-Time Loser Tory. Adios.

calvintoronto 4 years ago
Look where the health care system is now, it was better than it was before. While we are talking about liars, let's remind people that a certain party (hint: not the liberals) left a deficit of $5.6 Billion. They did not tell the public and left it to the next government (hint: not the PCs) to pick it up. That was probably the reason behind the heath premium, because the predecessor almost devastated the health system, and there wasn't enough funds in the budget.
dofer490 4 years ago
uh...at that time, the liberals were in power so it is there fault.
bloodrageX5 4 years ago
I guess McGuinty is a liar for trying to fix what Harris, and Eves broke. Yes he introduced the Health premium, he was FULLY aware that he was breaking a promise and he admitted that it was a tough choice. Admitting you're breaking a promise is more leadership than the person who says "leadership matters". He had a choice, either make cuts to the health system, or introduce the premium. If you look at it, which is better? An underfunded health or a healthcare system that has money in it?
dofer490 4 years ago
We now pay more taxes for health care, but in the same announcement, lost more health care benefits such as eye care. Lets not forget that tuition freezes are a thing of the past. So now our children can have 50000 dollars debt when they finish university. All that is OK though, because if he is elected again, we get a stat holiday in Feb.
Sentinal77 4 years ago
I'm sorry but what is all this about the tories lying about the deficit??? They didn't lie, all the information is available by the powers of the Freedom to Information Act. The Liberals knew damn well what they were doing and they knew damn well that they were going to break their promises. Now that the liberals have downloaded so many social programs to municipalities, cities like toronto are in HUGE debt and are going to suffer....at the hand of the liberals.
Sentinal77 4 years ago
Get your facts straight. It was Mike Harris that downloaded programs such as welfare, affordable housing, etc. to the cities, not Dalton McGuinty. Harris had to pay for his tax cuts somehow and that was one of his methods, in addition to running up a $5 billion deficit. McGuinty has started the process of uploading programs from the cities back to the province. Breaking something takes a few minutes; putting it back together can take years.
politiquerouge 4 years ago
If McGuinty was genuine about being forced to introduce the health tax then he'd use the $2.3 billion dollar surplus he just "found" to eliminate or at least phase it out.
John Tory said he'll eliminate the health tax, but in a CBC article McGuinty said that he wouldn't because it would be irresponsible.
Yeah - with an election looming it would be damned irresponsible, because then the Fiberals wouldn't be able to buy votes with *our* money.

ryno3290 4 years ago
The video forgot to mention that the McGuinty government passed Bill 130 giving municipalities more power. One such power was to appoint their own ombudsman/investigator (to investigate themselves!) Also McGuinty trumpeted that municipalities would now be more accountable --then he extended municipal elections to four years making them less accountable.
Signed,

MISSISSAUGAWATCH 4 years ago
You can't suddenly shut down every coal plant, obviously, unless a good portion of Ontario is OK with living without power for awhile? McGuinty is making great improvements to Ontario's "environmentally-friendliness" status, and his ideas are promising. He did shut down one coal plant, and reduced our reliance on coal by one third. No, it hasn't all happened at the snap of a finger, but we ARE ahead of the game, and we have Mr McGuinty to thank for that.
Lynne007 4 years ago
That is ALL that he did. Other than that hhe is useless, and so is your vote if you vote for him.
bloodrageX5 4 years ago
All that he did?
How about the 4 years of no teacher strikes?Test scores up by 62%, drop out rates down, 70% of students are in smaller classes (I've seen these results 1st hand)..
..3000 nursing positions, 150 health care teams, and 11 new hospitals created, wait times are down.
Strategic plans made in wind energy and our greenspace...
Top 3 concerns of the average voter: education, health care and environment.
Sounds good to me.

Because you are a gullible idiot. You only mention the things he did, because the liberals did jack shit in 13 years and can't hold a candle to what the conservatives have done in 2-3
bloodrageX5 4 years ago
Yeah, like Mike Harris. Look what he did in his tenure. Why, he balanced the budget...by raising Ontario's debt by billions!! Why, he cut taxes by 30%...and now everyone wonders why Health Premiums went up. Why, he wanted "the fucking Indians out of the park"...then had other people lie for him when we all know he said it.

Now THERE is an argument worthy of a tory: attack the person because his own argument can't be defended. Way to go blood; you've definitely proven yourself to be the fool you are.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
And, hey, blood, I see that you and your leader have new footwear: FLIP FLOP! Yeah, now there's a leader eh? Soooo principled. Now we all know why Tory did it in the first place: not because he has principles but because he thought that the religious funding would buy votes. Principles my fucking arse.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Poor Stacey. Can't admit it when her leader Harris, oops, I mean Tory reverses his position. Do you HONESTLY think he would have backed down had he thought that he could still win the election? Hardly, and you know it. The guy pushed the issue to win minority votes...and it backfired. Good. And you know damn well that not ONE of the leaders would rescind Catholic funding.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
Again, what "flip-flop"? It's not an issue I particularly CARE about, but if you value fairness, then every religion/superstition should be treated equally.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
Either the Catholics shouldn't be allowed their own system (and EVERYONE has to pay into the non-denominational system), or parents should have the right to send their kids and their money to the religous school of their choice. That's all Tory is saying, and you know what? It's exactly what that lying weasel McGuinty was saying before he became premier, too. Now, who exactly was "pushing the issue to win votes", Calvin?
StaceyC123 4 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
Well, Stacey, you're right about McGuinty's previous pronouncements. All I can say is that I'm glad he changed his mind (inasmuch as I'm glad he "listened" to what his finance minister told him upon assuming power and levied the health premium), and time shows us he was on the right side of the issue. So, Stacey, are you now saying that Tory is following the (smarter) McGuinty?
calvintoronto 4 years ago
I'm simply saying that what is "fair" doesn't change depending on whether or not someone is elected; the main reason McGuinty has done a complete 180 on his former "principled stand" is because he doesn't want the teacher's union pissed off at him. If he wasn't such a lying slimeball, McGuinty would at least stay consistent, instead of saying one thing beforehand and another afterwards.
StaceyC123 4 years ago
You're probably right about this. And I don't think Tory or the NDP guy whazzizname would either. I don't think any religion should be funded. But let's face it: politics is the art of the possible, and in Ontario that ain't possible.
calvintoronto 4 years ago

The Conservatives claimed they had a balanced budget. Instead it turned out they flat out lied and had one of the biggest deficits in Ontario history. In light of this, it understandable why Dalton had to break his promise.
