Great performance - I remember watching it on jubilee night aged 15 - the first few notes of the solo are pure genius but I think he was very drunk on the night as his speech was slurred and he looks unwell. Nevertheless, always makes me feel good about the world!
yea man he was a heeaaavyyyy alcoholic at this point... such bummer, i always wonder how much further his music could have progressed if he hadn't regressed into alcoholism...
Sometimes people tend to forget how good and fine Eric was on wha wha.
In my opinion every time he played wha wha something special was going to happen....
If you don't believe me, please listen to Tales of brave Ulysses, White room, Presence of the Lord, Roll it over, Breaking point, Pretending (live versions). In the 70's he played live on wha wha Little wing, Badge, Blues power, After midnight and Layla, too.
but i swear, i swear it was in self defense!!

@73moley That beard isnt that intense, definitely right about the stoned and wasted part.

At 3.45- 3:48 the smallest fill or guitar riff ever; its the same thing you hear at the beginning in lenny kravitz's "I belong to you"

I think that's Yvonne Elliman on the left there with the nice maracas.

Drunk as a lord!!! Still genius though. Most lead guitarists couldn't play this sober!
