@danlc95 You kind of ARE stupid because DT, as of yet, hasn't written ANYTHING with Mangini. He recorded on Dramatic Turn but was NOT involved in the writing process at all. Portnoy is an amazing drummer, but was also a key songwriter in DT alongside JP. Mangini is one of the most amazing drummers in the world, but he isn't a world-class songwriter like MP.

Mangini is not a world class songwriter like Portnoy, but a dramatic turn of events was written without Portnoy, and the album is a lot beter than anything of their latest up o that point, well maybe besides a couple of songs... but this album is consistant, and most of all, it sounds like dream theater. Portnoy was pulling the band in a less progressive direction, which is all good and the music was awesome, but it wasn't dream theater quality.

Labrie's singing is sterile on the albums because he has to re-take everything, and when singing live, he is off pitch way too often. And I don't like the hole punching tone either. If the part is played one way its almost like thats it, its set in stone. Thats how my mind and others work. Other DT drummers who know the parts we would challange eachother and make sure it was done exactly perfect. we would mess w. eachother in good fun
