I think this is something i picked up from Mark who often refers to other male performers (and me) by surname. Bernie Clifton is also referred to on screen by surname only during this vid

This just demonstrates what a generous musician Tim MInchin is! where on earth did that eejit trombone man (I won't say player - he seems only capable of making random farting noises) come from? Well handled Tim.....
Totally dig Tim... his version is great! his singing is great! his piano solo is great! and he manages to stay composed when the not so great "trombone weird man from no where" come out :)
