I truly agree that a healty body makes a healty mind. But as an adult with ADD/ADHD. Your natural diet only plays a small part. I use to think just like everyone else, its all a load of crap so people could get rich. Yes and No. Yes drug companies took advantage of but, No it is a real thing. I don't jump to conclusions until I have heard everything. Don't give kids drugs. They need to learn on there own. But help adults if they still have trouble with ADHD. Your just hurting them if you don't.
read "Delivered from distraction"...while it is not completely anti ADHD meds.it goes over every last natural mental, physical, nutritional and otherwise tools you can use before you even dream of resorting to that for you or your child. : )
I refuse to call myself ADHD, when I was old enough I took myself off the drugs due to an inability to feel emotion while on them. I find that caffine and omega3 helps though. caffine makes me calmer and almost tired. the opposite can be said for my friends who drink coffee to stay awake.
psychetruth, problem with media, youtubers, and the majority is having to listen to people who put groups (such as Psyches) into generalized groups to prove ones point..NOT good...you speak truth as far as diet is concerned ( withdrawal of gluten and Hormone enhanced dairy products to combat add & adhd as well as autism)..do not fall into this catagory, I myself have often been guilty..but again, I am not the one who posted a vid trying to educate the public...watch".Autism: made in the USA"
ADHD is an autistic spectrum disorder not to do with food. THe only similarity to this is the hyperactivity which food and drinks with additives in does produce. ADHD is to do with the 'wiring of the brain' and nothing else. So whata load of bull!
A good diet and exercise certainly helps people with ADHD (as it does everyone else) but it is NOT the cause. It's a neurological disorder having to do with levels of certain neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine) related to motivation, attention, reward-seeking behavior, among other things.
Oh wow seriously you have no idea what your talking about lol
The motivation by the drug company's is money, they keep vitamins and even the papers proving they cure many problems either hidden or destroyed this is a fact!
Over all, it just doesn't work that way and there are people trying to change things but its people like you who without knowledge or looking judge and damn these facts!
Its corruption why they won't use vitamins as well as money issues.
MANY scientists and doctors agree and have written scores of papers but will you hear about it? no because corruption is so bad only people who look and learn for themselves (yes its ok too learn and understand) find out the truth
Noni juice, it works a fact and i didn't see it coming because no one told me, it worked and later found it does what it said it did, just one of 100's of examples
Neurological disorders can occur from a lack of nutrition from a long period of time
Your scientific explanation only explains the physiological hows and whats of ADHd as it is expressed in the brain when it is already present. Scientists are out to lunch when they attempt to explain etiology as solely neurochemical. Its embarrassing. Taking a snapshot of people when they have a disease and then atomizing or fragmenting the problem by drawing big conclusions about it , mislead themselves and the community.
Who cited a study published in the Lancet studying food additives effect on hyperactivity in children. The study made no mention of adhd, no connection. I think if you want to pull upp a study to support an argument you could be a little more specific which study you are referring to. It's annoying to have to search for a study. Perhaps you were hoping I wouldn't check up on it? I find found the study credible though, but I fail to see what it has to do with adhd.
ADHD and diet has more then enough study's that prove diet is a major part, heck a company called shaklee confirms this and they do serious testing scientifically and thats just one of many studys.
Shes right, anyone who says anything else knows nothing, that simple, just talking about something they know nothing about.
I have even tested nutrition thats shes mentioning and shes right, can't argue with results clear results, if you disagree i don't care and if you do ty!
Diet is neither the cause nor the solution to adhd. A healthy diet will of course lessen the symptoms of adhd, just as it will lessen the symptoms of almost every disease known to man.
If Shaklees produkts were effective in treating adhd, they would be prescribed by physicians by now. I'm sure that this company does not want to subject its products to independent testing, that way they can keep making money from the desperate and gullible.
Yes, a poor diet decreases your ability to concentrate, what a surprise!
A poor diet will result in symptoms similar to those of adhd. That does not prove there is a link between diet and adhd. The study you talk about does not make a logical connection between adhd and diet. You are barking up the wrong tree! Freud said something to the effect "if your only tool is a hammer then soon everything starts to look like a nail" I think this is your problem!
This says nothing about her, your statement says everything about you and people like you on the internet, yes ADHD does exists, i have it and its very real, you're the type of ignorant person who people say if you have nothing nice to say shut up.
Thank you very much for this info . I completely agree with what you said there because when I moved to college and started eating the fast food crap for almost a year now my grades started decreasing due to alot of time waste and trouble focusing or concentrating while studying I started eating healthy food 1 week now and I hope it will pay off
I have learned from Dr. Ben Feingold's book WHY YOUR CHILD IS HYPERACTIVE and from Sue Dengate's video FED UP WITH CHILDREN's BEHAVIOR that synthetic food additives really do affect behavior and asthma and allergies and overall health.
Since changing my family's diet, I have a peaceful household for the first time in ten years.
Actually, diet would help kids with ADHD. I can't verify for sure that everything this user is saying is accurate, but I wouldn't doubt it.
Even with typical teenagers and children, cutting out high sugar foods/drinks really helps with concentration, and keeps kids more "level" (not on highs & crashes)
I think we all know that putting unnatural things (like additives & preservatives) in your body is not a GREAT idea. Hence the shift toward organic foods and foods that undergo less processing.
The psyhiatric community downplays the importance of nutrition and exercise in mental health? I challenge you to find a single psyh professional who says that those do not have a profound effect on mental health.
Just cause they say it, doesn't mean they practice it. I challenge you to find a single psychiatrists that recommends a nutrition program as an alternative to mind altering drugs.
The fact is, psychiatrists have ZERO training in nutrition. Most MDs have almost no training in nutrition either.
Ive been diagnosed with ADHD and my psychiatrist and doctor reminded me on multiple occasions of the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. But diet alone does not totally help with hpyperactivity and inattention. Proper diet AND stimulants such as ritalin or celexa can help.
Well said. The meds can always be diminished if the dietary changes do a good enough job. Some need the meds to be organised and focused enough to initially make the dietary changes.
I bet you havent tried omega 3. If you have you wouldnt be gloryfying ur "DOCTORS" I have adhd and omega 3 works 100 times better than ritalin and celexa. Do some research b4 u speak mate.
@psychetruth I know im not from america, but in Denmark I have NEVER been to a single psykiatric who did not point out thar prober nutrition and exercice is nessesary. Howewer I think its worth noticing that in denmark its free to get psykiatric help. When the treater is not depending on youre money he will happily send you to another form of treatment. So wellfair is really the problem. system is corrupt when not collaberating
@psychetruth I've actually had a psychiatrist who was against me taking supplements that would help with ADHD. all natural whole food supplements that is. psychiatrist and MDs are only trained to take of symptoms and dieseases and never the root cause of most of our illnesses: bad nutrition. as long as people stay unhealthy from lack of exercise and good nutrition, the med fields make more money. no incentive for them to advocate exercise and nutrition plans.
@psychetruth Most MD's would have zero motivation to teach nutrition even if they had the knowledge because nutrition doesn't pay their salaries like pharmaceuticals do!
hey I can't concentrate at all lately i'm an artist I use to draw for hours on end. but now I can't concentrate my attention spam is so short and I get distracted easily I knew it had to do something with my diet
Hyperactivity from dyes and chemicals is not the same as ADD. I've been a raw foodist and still had debilitating ADD symptoms. It's a part of the way you are built as a person.
adhd overall is a pile of damn bullshit.we once looked after a kid who had this bullshit ailment.his mom told us he was better in a controlled environement.what was the matter with this statement i thought.a controlled environement.why didn't she control his environement then.society is so screwed today.they need a book thats wrote by a bunch of fucked up psychiatrists to tell them how to raise a child.people don't know how to use there god given common sense anymore.not a clue anymore.
the majority ARE misdiagnosed. it's a bunch of BS most of the time, yes, but when someone actually HAS ADHD you tend to know if you're in the field or have been diagnosed with a learning disability.. my pet theory is that 95% are just overdiagnosed hyper kids who are being coddled. the only true test for ADHD or any LD is a brain scan, tallying at a minimum of 1500 bucks. The difference is, I'm told, VERY noticeable on the scans.
brainscans only indicate an observation of difference in people 'diagnosed' versus what is considered 'normal.'
there is a larger sociological issue here. in that, we have to ask precisely how people are abnormal. it it a true, genuine deformity? Or, is it only hindersome within society. I would argue that if it goes away when you change diet and/or social contexts it is not in fact a disease at all.
in early schooling, what we are asking our children to do essentially is to not be children. sit still. be quite. don't fidget. society, in it's preoccupation with pushing everybody through it's educational systems, often fails terribly in recognizing the dynamic nature of the human psyche. the mind cannot be considered independent of it's environment, as it is only a result of it, and a participant in it.
I'm very happy you didnt deny its existence. I have ADHD. I had 1 big Mac and it crippled my cognitive ability , almost like having 4 standard glasses. Hence i can never have McDonalds before lectures.
Hey Natalie! I did a wikipedia search on Sodium Benzoate; "It is found naturally in cranberries, prunes, greengage plums, cinnamon, ripe cloves, and apples". I don't eat any of the ingredients but apples on occasion, lol. Should we avoid apples?
Thanks Natalie for this important safety tip. Strange that the FDA isn't the one telling us what's safe and what isn't? I wonder how much money is wasted funding that government enterprise? 42 million
TARTRAZINE by itself causes many problems with adhd type sypmtoms and aggressive behavior. When ingested with SODIUM BENZOATE.. the effect is 10 fold.. TARTRAZINE HAS BEEN BANNED IN SEVERAL COUNTRIES AND PRESENTLY THE UK ARE LOOKING INTO BANNING IT AS WELL.
Eat as natural as possible. Stay away from fast foods, and packaged foods. Cook your own food from scratch, because your ability to control what's in your food obviously increases... GOOD LUCK.. I HOPE I HAVE HELPED SOMEONE.
This is for those of you who 'have adhd' I put that in quotes because it's debatable. Stay away from these chemicals.. TARTRAZINE AND SODIUM BENZOATE. Tartrazine is a yellow dye which is found in many products which are guided towards children. You'll find it in Mac and cheese and freezes.. orange juice and many other products. Sodium Benzoate is found in probably 80% of packaged (processed) foods.. STAY AWAY FROM THESE, AND YOU WILL FEEL BETTER IMMEDIATELY. society is being poisoned..
"Normal" people around us cant see the world though our eyes because they simply cant escape from the inside the box. My ADD is treatable. you being trapped inside the box is not. Be Proud to be different not deficit
Being born and being capable of seeing things from so many different angles, and being able to think outside the box, and being able to take time and appreciate the things in life. You can either tell yourself how bad life is, and look at all the negatives about yourself and about the world around you, and try and force yourself to think inside the box. Or you can use your ability to think outside the box, and look higher than that.
i might have ADHD my doctor said i should see a phycietrist(i know i cant spell) but my dad says it is not that inportant becuz ADHD kids grow up and they live...and he dosnt want me on those phils..
Absolutely the best thing for anyone with ADHD to do is join the Marines, get some skills and combat experience in Iraq or Afghanistan, plus a career when you come home, specialize in Military Police as a MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) and then you can get with any Police Force when you get out of the Military!!
To Spiritz0: Brilliant idea u moron. Go to iraq, kill innocent people, go mental when u come home, kill yourself. Sounds like the perfect cure for the so called ADHD (its all a scam) "problem"
To Inskates: Your fatehr is a wise man, those ADHD pills will only destroy your psyche and give u problems later in life. Stay creative and take care:)
Kids with ADHD grow up, and we never seem to hear much about adults with ADHD. My husband was diagnosed with ADHD while he was in grad school. He tried 2 different medications, but neither he nor I felt they they were beneficial. We both choose to look at his ADHD not as a "disorder", but as a personality characteristic. He is the brightest, sweetest, most curious, and energetic person I know. Also great at mulit-tasking. I think these are assets, not problems. Why drug him?
its what they eat. its what they dont eat. its because their spanked. its because they aren't spanked. I wonder if the people who come up with this stuff have any family members or freinds who suffer from hyper activity...it affects all areas of life
We've always known red dye #3 and yellow #33 isn't good for us, nor is aspartame (which came into effect cuz of Donny Rums)...both are found in many food items!! Hotdogs, #1 staple of youngsters, is full of red dye! Surcralose, aspartame's new answer, is full of cholorine...you are what you eat! Peace!
i teach a preschool class with a child on add medication she is very sedated while awake and other times just sleeps the whole day at school while the other children play and occasionally get into trouble. classrooms do not work for children and the lack of recess. schools want them to learn more and more earlier and earlier. children do not get to be children anymore with all the things they have to learn so early.
The rest may be a simple matter of teachers and parents wanting to control children - predominantly boys.
Children are partially-socialized hominids with a wild streak; it really is not natural for them to sit still and quiet for hours at a time. Yet that's what has to be done in our schools. Drugging them is increasingly seen as the answer - because advertising appears to legitimize the concept.
I totally agree. Young growing bodies are suppose to be very active. To expect them to sit motionless for several hours a day is stupid. Top it off w/ many going home afterwards to remain virtually motionless while playing video games and then the teacher has to somehow interest them when they're use to the high level of action in video games to keep their interest.
yeah, the FDA is selling these drugs ( that kills hundreds of children a year ) saying your child NEEDS this because the FDA is telling you its the solution. WTF those fucking bastards just want more money. they could careless of your health. its not a disease!its normal! talk about brainwashing.... lol eat healthy and excerise and you'll never need these dangerous drugs. but some people are stupid enough to take'em i guess. and i totally agree with you guys and this video. eat healthy!
Speak out !!! Refuse to put kids on drugs. Didnt they ban Black Beauties for weight loss years ago? Is med for ADHD similar? Think, Stop durgging kids!!!!!
I like how the brit media acts like this is old news that everybody should know by now, I have read several reports the last couple of years that suggest soda at least is phasing sodium benzoate out, AND that it provolks mitocondrial disorders, the engery factory of the cell that is responcible for alot of cancers, when tissues go acidic and anerobic from wonderful things like clorimines from tap water and such all to reduce populations?,
ADHD is a myth. Smack your kids when they need it and teach them to respect athority like every other generation did. Your parents and grandparents got an ass beating when they needed it so should you and your kids. (I'm 27)
Smacking kids doesn't prevent anything, and smacking them doesn't instil respect. A clip round the ear every now and then will turn there energy to better things - but it doesn't take it away, and it doesn't change there mind about wanting to do in the first place.
If you think "the kids today" are somehow get a better deal than you, then you are sadly mistaken.
Well I would conclude then, given the over the top "discipline" I was subjected to via fists, feet, shoes, belts and on rare occasions plates - to come out the other side sounding like a typical "I wasn't spanked" type is quite interesting.
In my parents words?
"all that time we tried to beat you into attending school, and you were already serving your apprenticeship, I suppose I am proud of you, just didn't realize you were actually learning something [...] once again, very well done!"
Oh ya, I forgot about the typical "overbeaten." I always here the same arguments from both groups. Those of us who had parents that understood the balance between physical discipline and other types seemed to turn out fine. And it did do me some good. It didn't take me more than once to know I wouldn't do that again. The balance is that I was told what I did, spanked and later talked to about why not to. To each his own, but when talking isn't working, drugs shouldn't be the next idea.
Experts across all fields of Mammalia behaviour agree reward is a better teacher than punishment. Punishment breeds subservience and weakens relations (which some people refer to as respect).
There are only two types of "smacking" parent. One who doesn't, and one who does too often.
the main problem is that children especially young boys are in a boring classroom environment getting there minds crammed full of dry knowledge without the emotional capacity to assimilate it.. many children don't mature as fast as others and intuitively reject forced learning but can't reasonably stand up for themselves, they are normal children who sense there minds are being violated,.. the diagnosis of ADHD is promoted by drug companies and educators for their benefit, not the child's.
A child is born with the desire to learn though, otherwise why try to walk and talk? I don't understand your reasoning in saying boys feel 'violated by forced learning'. My son wanted to learn, but wasn't able too in certain areas the regular way due to a learning disability...and everything distracted him which caused him huge frustration. This is part of the ADHD, being easily distracted...believe me its no fun when you want to learn. Who doesn't want to learn at any age?
didn't your child learn to speak without the need for a public education? what do you think is the regular way to learn? some genius types don't even learn at the same pace as their peers, if they are distracted it may only be a phase there going through.. we know in general boys don't develop as fast as girls in the beginning..
my wish, in a nutshell, is that mind altering drugs would never be administered to children.. too much sugar and additives in food can be easily corrected, but to drug a child to make there young brains behave as you want them to is a crime, it's taking something away from them that is more important than their ability to sit still and setting them up for serious problems later in life.
I did want to say (sorry to hog this video) that natural foods DO help a great many children and any parent needs to try this first BEFORE medication. Reading up on it and how to deal with a child with ADHD helps the parent know how to handle them too. Also check your child for food allergies! That can cause alot of it and avoid red dye 40!!! (hate that stuff)
My son also has ADHD and a L.D. because this runs in families I watched for it in him and got him help as early as I could. Untreated ADHD tends to lead to ODD, and then to CD (conduct disorder) these kids lie, steal, get into drugs, early teen pregnancies, jail, etc. I got help for my son so he is succeeding in school and not 'doped'. I did all the natural foods stuff...long story but in the end it didn't help.
some kids with 'hyperactivity disorders' are simply geniuses and should be given fast paced education which will calm them down and allow them to become scientific professionals to solve problems, after all geniuses cause most progress.
Einstein was not creative either he was a genesis in math. The video implies those with ADHD are all creative and 'drugging' them keeps them from being creative. They don't say if any of the famous people with ADHD are on medication or not. If a child/adult can't focus enough to work on their art, songs, etc, how can they be creative? I agree these medications can be dangerous. Clonidine is much safer and is not a stimulate that they found helps with ADHD.
I think Einstein was very creative. He was theoretic mathematician who created the theory of relativity. No, not all kids that are creative are given ADHD drugs. Some kids are given them because they are slow and fall behind. Other children are given them simply as a method of behavior control since they disrupt the class, etc. May people diagnosed w/ ADHD will claim that their free flowing thought (or lack of concentration as some would call it) has contributed to their creativity though.
Ok well I guess that depends on what you think being creative means. I see it as art, music, writing, etc. They think Einstein also had Asperger and he did have a learning disability. This is why he was kicked out of school for being 'too stupid to learn' when he was little. Most kids with ADHD also have other problems such as L.D. Robin Williams is actually bipolar. Einstein didn't start talking until he was four. That is NOT typical of a child with ADHD.
Do a search for "The truth about my disorder" and watch the video by smpfilms. He gives an interesting prospective on his thoughts about being diagnosed w/ ADHD.
The more intelligent you are the more creative you can be in solving problems. I think about 1 in 5000 births produces a genius. Einstein said 'problems cannot be solved at the same level of consciousness that created them'. Ordinary minds do not care possibly because they cannot be aware of the importance of geniuses and they take for granted new technology and seem to behave like it comes out of thin air.
I saw a documentary about a hyperactive kid genius who was drugged up. The mother commented how well he did at school and the behaviour of the child was like he was bored to death, always looking for a challenge.
And so, ordinary people cannot handle hyperactive kids, they think its bad and want their behaviour to change so thank a stupid drug when it calms a gifted minded down. Sure, there are kids that are hyperactive and are not geniuses possibly because of food additives or artificial colourings, red cordial and children...I've seen it, simply stop these unsafe chemicals from being put into food.
I watched it. I have ADD myself, never been on meds for it though I wouldn't mind something to help me stay focused! I hate being all over the place and basically getting nothing done. :( I also have a learning disability, as I said, ADHD is rarely ever alone, these kids/adults have other dx going on too that need to be addressed. School was a living nightmare for me...I WISH I had gotten help instead of growing up thinking I was stupid. It shattered my self esteem totally.
Can you repost the link to the study please? What you have isn't working. Them saying 'several children' had this reaction doesn't say much actually. If it was a huge number they studied then I would think those over here in the US would sit up and take notice. I do agree dyes and this other junk in foods DO cause behavioral problems in many children.
America consumes 45 percent of all pharmaceuticals in the world and we are only 2.5 percent of population. ADHD is a multi-billion dollar industry. Company's are not going to promote alternatives when they stand to lose billions by doing so. The UK is far more conservative about giving psychiatric drugs to children than we are in the US. For Example, all antidepressants are banned for children in the UK except Prozac.
I thought even prozac could cause severe depression in children...all of them can, but recently on the news they are now saying early studies show a high and sudden spike in suicides in young people who are not being given anti-depressants due to concerns the meds will cause them to commit suicide, so it may be they were helping not making things worse but helping.
There is a link to an article covering the study in the video description. From that article you could probably find that actual study that published in the UK medical journal.
good to know all of this. i have a cousin whose mom thinks he's ADHD, when really he's just a total rotten brat who is never punished correctly. know "stuart" on MADTV? yah thats him and his mom, FORREAL
Here's another good reason for avoiding sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate in foods: In the presence of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), these two compounds break down in the stomach into benzene, a known carcinogen! Many foods, especially children's enriched fruit drinks and fruit snacks contain both vitamin C and either/both of these preservatives!
I don't know where you got the vitamin C idea. There isn't anything in this video about vitamin C. If your saying that because of the juice drinks, she isn't talking about actual natural fruit juices.
I was replying to someone else's comment on here..it was really confusing...sounded like they were saying children should not have vitamin C in juice, etc. I was hoping they were clarify.
Confusing? Not at all. Please read my comment again. No way am I saying that Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is bad for kids. Ascorbic acid is an important and necessary requirement for good nutrition for all of us! And, since many children tend not to eat enough fruit on a daily basis, it's good that Vitamin C is added to CERTAIN food products. However, because of the unfortunate chemical reaction mentioned above, it pays to be cautious about which food products you buy.
My sister's kid is very sensitive to food coloring and preservatives. If he has much of either he becomes a different person. It kind of makes me wonder if more people aren't suffering ill effects from this stuff. Maybe not enough to make you crazy, but just reducing your quality of life. But having really long lasting food that's just the right color is pretty important too, especially since psychiatry has such good solutions to any mental problem a person might run into.

Neurological disorders can occur from a lack of nutrition from a long period of time
jonman701 2 years ago
Your scientific explanation only explains the physiological hows and whats of ADHd as it is expressed in the brain when it is already present. Scientists are out to lunch when they attempt to explain etiology as solely neurochemical. Its embarrassing. Taking a snapshot of people when they have a disease and then atomizing or fragmenting the problem by drawing big conclusions about it , mislead themselves and the community.
marimanque 2 years ago
Who cited a study published in the Lancet studying food additives effect on hyperactivity in children. The study made no mention of adhd, no connection. I think if you want to pull upp a study to support an argument you could be a little more specific which study you are referring to. It's annoying to have to search for a study. Perhaps you were hoping I wouldn't check up on it? I find found the study credible though, but I fail to see what it has to do with adhd.
ekorre33 2 years ago
ADHD and diet has more then enough study's that prove diet is a major part, heck a company called shaklee confirms this and they do serious testing scientifically and thats just one of many studys.
Shes right, anyone who says anything else knows nothing, that simple, just talking about something they know nothing about.
I have even tested nutrition thats shes mentioning and shes right, can't argue with results clear results, if you disagree i don't care and if you do ty!
jonman701 2 years ago
Diet is neither the cause nor the solution to adhd. A healthy diet will of course lessen the symptoms of adhd, just as it will lessen the symptoms of almost every disease known to man.
If Shaklees produkts were effective in treating adhd, they would be prescribed by physicians by now. I'm sure that this company does not want to subject its products to independent testing, that way they can keep making money from the desperate and gullible.

Hyperaktiv behaviour is not = adhd
Yes, a poor diet decreases your ability to concentrate, what a surprise!
A poor diet will result in symptoms similar to those of adhd. That does not prove there is a link between diet and adhd. The study you talk about does not make a logical connection between adhd and diet. You are barking up the wrong tree! Freud said something to the effect "if your only tool is a hammer then soon everything starts to look like a nail" I think this is your problem!

Since changing my family's diet, I have a peaceful household for the first time in ten years.
pennyarcos 2 years ago

Valmy77 3 years ago 4
Just cause they say it, doesn't mean they practice it. I challenge you to find a single psychiatrists that recommends a nutrition program as an alternative to mind altering drugs.
The fact is, psychiatrists have ZERO training in nutrition. Most MDs have almost no training in nutrition either.
psychetruth 3 years ago 9
Ive been diagnosed with ADHD and my psychiatrist and doctor reminded me on multiple occasions of the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. But diet alone does not totally help with hpyperactivity and inattention. Proper diet AND stimulants such as ritalin or celexa can help.
thecatfish111 2 years ago
Well said. The meds can always be diminished if the dietary changes do a good enough job. Some need the meds to be organised and focused enough to initially make the dietary changes.

@psychetruth I've actually had a psychiatrist who was against me taking supplements that would help with ADHD. all natural whole food supplements that is. psychiatrist and MDs are only trained to take of symptoms and dieseases and never the root cause of most of our illnesses: bad nutrition. as long as people stay unhealthy from lack of exercise and good nutrition, the med fields make more money. no incentive for them to advocate exercise and nutrition plans.

the majority ARE misdiagnosed. it's a bunch of BS most of the time, yes, but when someone actually HAS ADHD you tend to know if you're in the field or have been diagnosed with a learning disability.. my pet theory is that 95% are just overdiagnosed hyper kids who are being coddled. the only true test for ADHD or any LD is a brain scan, tallying at a minimum of 1500 bucks. The difference is, I'm told, VERY noticeable on the scans.

jzflack91 3 years ago
brainscans only indicate an observation of difference in people 'diagnosed' versus what is considered 'normal.'
there is a larger sociological issue here. in that, we have to ask precisely how people are abnormal. it it a true, genuine deformity? Or, is it only hindersome within society. I would argue that if it goes away when you change diet and/or social contexts it is not in fact a disease at all.
abyssquick 3 years ago
in early schooling, what we are asking our children to do essentially is to not be children. sit still. be quite. don't fidget. society, in it's preoccupation with pushing everybody through it's educational systems, often fails terribly in recognizing the dynamic nature of the human psyche. the mind cannot be considered independent of it's environment, as it is only a result of it, and a participant in it.

Kids with ADHD grow up, and we never seem to hear much about adults with ADHD. My husband was diagnosed with ADHD while he was in grad school. i teach a preschool class with a child on add medication she is very sedated while awake and other times just sleeps the whole day at school while the other children play and occasionally get into trouble. classrooms do not work for children and the lack of recess. schools want them to learn more and more earlier and earlier. children do not get to be children anymore with all the things they have to learn so early.
sos687 4 years ago
Diet is part of it.
Urgelt 4 years ago 3
I totally agree. Young growing bodies are suppose to be very active. To expect them to sit motionless for several hours a day is stupid. Top it off w/ many going home afterwards to remain virtually motionless while playing video games and then the teacher has to somehow interest them when they're use to the high level of action in video games to keep their interest.

ADHD is a myth. Smack your kids when they need it and teach them to respect athority like every other generation did. Your parents and grandparents got an ass beating when they needed it so should you and your kids. (I'm 27)
Loe307uh 4 years ago
Prick.
ourben 3 years ago
go cry about it.
Loe307uh 3 years ago
Smacking kids doesn't prevent anything, and smacking them doesn't instil respect. A clip round the ear every now and then will turn there energy to better things - but it doesn't take it away, and it doesn't change there mind about wanting to do in the first place.
If you think "the kids today" are somehow get a better deal than you, then you are sadly mistaken.
ourben 3 years ago
Parents don't discipline their kids nearly as well as they used to. You sound like the typical "I wasn't spanked" type.
Loe307uh 3 years ago
Do I?
Well I would conclude then, given the over the top "discipline" I was subjected to via fists, feet, shoes, belts and on rare occasions plates - to come out the other side sounding like a typical "I wasn't spanked" type is quite interesting.
In my parents words?
"all that time we tried to beat you into attending school, and you were already serving your apprenticeship, I suppose I am proud of you, just didn't realize you were actually learning something [...] once again, very well done!"
ourben 3 years ago
...
So, I'd say, beating sense into kids didn't teach me a great deal more than not to do it.
Here is where you'd say something like, well it did me no harm.
Maybe not.
But it did you no good either.
ourben 3 years ago
Oh ya, I forgot about the typical "overbeaten." I always here the same arguments from both groups. Those of us who had parents that understood the balance between physical discipline and other types seemed to turn out fine. And it did do me some good. It didn't take me more than once to know I wouldn't do that again. The balance is that I was told what I did, spanked and later talked to about why not to. To each his own, but when talking isn't working, drugs shouldn't be the next idea.
Loe307uh 3 years ago
Experts across all fields of Mammalia behaviour agree reward is a better teacher than punishment. Punishment breeds subservience and weakens relations (which some people refer to as respect).
There are only two types of "smacking" parent. One who doesn't, and one who does too often.
ourben 3 years ago
the main problem is that children especially young boys are in a boring classroom environment getting there minds crammed full of dry knowledge without the emotional capacity to assimilate it.. many children don't mature as fast as others and intuitively reject forced learning but can't reasonably stand up for themselves, they are normal children who sense there minds are being violated,.. the diagnosis of ADHD is promoted by drug companies and educators for their benefit, not the child's.
Muzaloth 4 years ago 2
A child is born with the desire to learn though, otherwise why try to walk and talk? I don't understand your reasoning in saying boys feel 'violated by forced learning'. My son wanted to learn, but wasn't able too in certain areas the regular way due to a learning disability...and everything distracted him which caused him huge frustration. This is part of the ADHD, being easily distracted...believe me its no fun when you want to learn. Who doesn't want to learn at any age?
moonglow38 4 years ago
didn't your child learn to speak without the need for a public education? what do you think is the regular way to learn? some genius types don't even learn at the same pace as their peers, if they are distracted it may only be a phase there going through.. we know in general boys don't develop as fast as girls in the beginning..
Muzaloth 4 years ago
my wish, in a nutshell, is that mind altering drugs would never be administered to children.. too much sugar and additives in food can be easily corrected, but to drug a child to make there young brains behave as you want them to is a crime, it's taking something away from them that is more important than their ability to sit still and setting them up for serious problems later in life.
Muzaloth 4 years ago 3
I did want to say (sorry to hog this video) that natural foods DO help a great many children and any parent needs to try this first BEFORE medication. Reading up on it and how to deal with a child with ADHD helps the parent know how to handle them too. Also check your child for food allergies! That can cause alot of it and avoid red dye 40!!! (hate that stuff)
moonglow38 4 years ago
My son also has ADHD and a L.D. because this runs in families I watched for it in him and got him help as early as I could. Untreated ADHD tends to lead to ODD, and then to CD (conduct disorder) these kids lie, steal, get into drugs, early teen pregnancies, jail, etc. I got help for my son so he is succeeding in school and not 'doped'. I did all the natural foods stuff...long story but in the end it didn't help.
moonglow38 4 years ago
some kids with 'hyperactivity disorders' are simply geniuses and should be given fast paced education which will calm them down and allow them to become scientific professionals to solve problems, after all geniuses cause most progress.
raulitech 4 years ago
I agree, if the class is way too slow for you, you get bored and don't pay attention. Einstein was a horrible high school student.
psychetruth 4 years ago
Einstein was not creative either he was a genesis in math. The video implies those with ADHD are all creative and 'drugging' them keeps them from being creative. They don't say if any of the famous people with ADHD are on medication or not. If a child/adult can't focus enough to work on their art, songs, etc, how can they be creative? I agree these medications can be dangerous. Clonidine is much safer and is not a stimulate that they found helps with ADHD.
moonglow38 4 years ago
I think Einstein was very creative. He was theoretic mathematician who created the theory of relativity. No, not all kids that are creative are given ADHD drugs. Some kids are given them because they are slow and fall behind. Other children are given them simply as a method of behavior control since they disrupt the class, etc. May people diagnosed w/ ADHD will claim that their free flowing thought (or lack of concentration as some would call it) has contributed to their creativity though.
psychetruth 4 years ago
Ok well I guess that depends on what you think being creative means. I see it as art, music, writing, etc. They think Einstein also had Asperger and he did have a learning disability. This is why he was kicked out of school for being 'too stupid to learn' when he was little. Most kids with ADHD also have other problems such as L.D. Robin Williams is actually bipolar. Einstein didn't start talking until he was four. That is NOT typical of a child with ADHD.
moonglow38 4 years ago
Do a search for "The truth about my disorder" and watch the video by smpfilms. He gives an interesting prospective on his thoughts about being diagnosed w/ ADHD.
psychetruth 4 years ago
The more intelligent you are the more creative you can be in solving problems. I think about 1 in 5000 births produces a genius. Einstein said 'problems cannot be solved at the same level of consciousness that created them'. Ordinary minds do not care possibly because they cannot be aware of the importance of geniuses and they take for granted new technology and seem to behave like it comes out of thin air.
raulitech 4 years ago
I saw a documentary about a hyperactive kid genius who was drugged up. The mother commented how well he did at school and the behaviour of the child was like he was bored to death, always looking for a challenge.
raulitech 4 years ago
And so, ordinary people cannot handle hyperactive kids, they think its bad and want their behaviour to change so thank a stupid drug when it calms a gifted minded down. Sure, there are kids that are hyperactive and are not geniuses possibly because of food additives or artificial colourings, red cordial and children...I've seen it, simply stop these unsafe chemicals from being put into food.
raulitech 4 years ago
I watched it. I have ADD myself, never been on meds for it though I wouldn't mind something to help me stay focused! I hate being all over the place and basically getting nothing done. :( I also have a learning disability, as I said, ADHD is rarely ever alone, these kids/adults have other dx going on too that need to be addressed. School was a living nightmare for me...I WISH I had gotten help instead of growing up thinking I was stupid. It shattered my self esteem totally.
moonglow38 4 years ago
Can you repost the link to the study please? What you have isn't working. Them saying 'several children' had this reaction doesn't say much actually. If it was a huge number they studied then I would think those over here in the US would sit up and take notice. I do agree dyes and this other junk in foods DO cause behavioral problems in many children.
moonglow38 4 years ago
America consumes 45 percent of all pharmaceuticals in the world and we are only 2.5 percent of population. ADHD is a multi-billion dollar industry. Company's are not going to promote alternatives when they stand to lose billions by doing so. The UK is far more conservative about giving psychiatric drugs to children than we are in the US. For Example, all antidepressants are banned for children in the UK except Prozac.
psychetruth 4 years ago
I thought even prozac could cause severe depression in children...all of them can, but recently on the news they are now saying early studies show a high and sudden spike in suicides in young people who are not being given anti-depressants due to concerns the meds will cause them to commit suicide, so it may be they were helping not making things worse but helping.

Here's another good reason for avoiding sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate in foods: In the presence of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), these two compounds break down in the stomach into benzene, a known carcinogen! Many foods, especially children's enriched fruit drinks and fruit snacks contain both vitamin C and either/both of these preservatives!
woosteria 4 years ago
So vitamin C is bad for kids? That doesn't make sense. Potassium and vitamin C are needed in everyone's diet.
moonglow38 4 years ago
I don't know where you got the vitamin C idea. There isn't anything in this video about vitamin C. If your saying that because of the juice drinks, she isn't talking about actual natural fruit juices.

psychetruth 4 years ago
Confusing?
