  • who's this Erik Satie-looking fool?

  • There are many piano versions of the Bolero on You Tube, but the other performers really should have a comment pointing to this one. It's the best by far.

  • mamma mia!

  • Ever fixating.

  • what magnificent playing I don't see how he did that !

  • @marcnycity: I was there when he performed this piece several times. He really is the only one in this recording! He is very, very good!!

  • BRAVO!!! DU BIST EIN GENIUS!!!

  • This version looks a lot (with some minor variations) like a piano transcription for 2 pianos that I have played in the past in school at Juilliard. Here there are 2 pianos and 4 hands involed! The pianist is not claiming that he is the only one here, so it's ok! the sounds you hear do NOT correspond to the keys played in the video. It's a GREAT performance though (by 2 guys ;)

  • @marcnycity it's not 2 people, but 1! I have also seen him perform it live. He puts something inside the piano, which makes the affected key thereafter sound like the snare drum you can hear!

  • It's nice to hear such a great interpretation done on a great piano.

  • Damn. this guy can play way better than I can play...

  • i wonder how long it took to practice this piece. i believe this was written for a duet but he played it alone.... i'm not really sure so please inform me.

  • But really : It is at least two pianists playing, I watched it very cerefully and I still think he´s not the only one playing

  • There seems to be some guy by the name of 'sjoseph0128' who is spamming people's videos with comments about how great you are. While I am sure that is flattering, it's not likely to make you friends.

Just saying. He felt it necessary to tell me that your version of Bolero was 'way better' than mine, ignoring the fact that my 'Bolero' is an original composition. If he likes Ravel's Bolero more, he is probably quite justified, but, really, I fail to see the need to spam people about your video.

  • Okay, how come they didn't film the other 3 pianists hiding behind the curtains? This is the most brilliant interpretation I heard by a soloist thus far! Hard to believe 10 fingers are capable of making this piece sound like it's played by an orchestra!

  • you must be using 100% of your brain to be capable of playing this! Your fingers are like machine guns on them keys...sure you're from our planet???

  • Stunning.

  • best!

  • It's also a good piano : very short sound at the beginning.

  • How many hand have you got?

  • Technically speaking, it is as if the pianist had some extra invisible hands!.. Hard to believe it's played by only ten fingers!.. Artistically speaking, the pianist plays not according to himself, but according to the music and to the piano. Thank you for playing it and sharing it.

  • @aerozden I can't account for this particular recording, but I did see him performing this work live several times, all by himself. Quite amazing!

  • Unbelievable performance. I am a pianist who is interested in finding your transcription of this Bolero. Is it your transciption? If so, would you be able to tell me please where I can find/buy it? I think it is the best transcription of the Bolero to date, and it would mean a great deal to me if you could let me know (it is very important). waitingcreative@ymail.com

  • Anyone know where I could buy a mp3 of a solo or dual piano playing Bolero?

  • Hervorragend!

  • @klaviererich

It is possible with less pedal but then you need 3 hands!!!!

    Fred Oldenburg

  • Do any one know what sheet he play? (and maybe where to gain

    trans by who?

  • Simply amazing... Ain't got words to describe this...

  • His bolero is so bright and warm...it shines when he plays...gentle and sincere.

  • does anyone know which version is this piano arrangement by?? I really want to find the score for this version. it's much better than the branga arrangement

  • simply amazing ....but is anyone else dizzy?

  • molto bel musqiue, adoro...

  • Is this piece harder to play than Fantasie Impromptu? I mean technically?

  • @musicioso yeah, fantasy impromptu only have 3 voices an this literaly is playing like a orchestra

  • Does anyone know where I can find a mp3 or CD version of this performance? I used to listen to it all the time as a child but my house was broken into and the CD was stolen and I haven't been able to find it since.

  • Wow! I was reading a book which mentioned Ravel's bolero and searched it on youtube and I clicked on your video. I have to say this is amazing! Especially on a bosendorfer imperial ;)

  • @jonprak You wasn't reading a book, because people from the US can't read.

  • @chapter24 ................What? Are you joking?

  • @chapter24 Oh, you got the tense wrong. "You weren't"

  • Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! Thank you for this super-human performance and arrangement. What an inspiration!

  • where can i find the sheet music?? like this movie??

  • A symphonic way of playing the piano !! It's amazing.

  • Increible !

  • Stunning! By far the best piano interpretation of Boléro I´ve ever heard and seen. And nice work on the video, too.

  • it sounds perfect! congratulations, im waiting for u next video xp

  • Simplemente MAGNIFICO

  • What a shame that such beautiful playing is subjected to such awful filming and editing. I feel quite dizzy. 5 stars for the playing.

  • This is so timeless omg!!

    Childhood memories!

I want to go back to the fountain show from the amusment park Drievliet in The Netherlands!

Don't know if they still have that show...

  • Beautiful!

One of my all-time favourite classical pieces.

Thx for posting this! (2+ years ago.....)

  • This reminds me Digimon.

  • same to me :D

  • this is beautiful

i've always wanted to know the name of this composition.

it really reminds me of my childhood. i used to listen to this a lot in one of my parents cds.

thank you for posting this video =]

  • I love how the music gets harder and stronger, and you can still smoothly keep the control over it.

Overwhelming transcription for 2 hands. Although they sound like a regular person would still need 4 to play this.

    Totally 10 out of 10!

  • Thank you so much for this brillant interpretation.

    One word : Genius.

  • Grandissime

  • I WANT THE TRANSCRIPTION !!!!!!!!

  • @jeybens , I want this transcription, too - who knows if it is available?? Does anyone know?

  • @LE3C I have a transcription but is not the same one.

  • Mariann444,

do you have the transcription by Branga? That is the classic and very good, but I am always interested in other ones and this is exciting!

  • Utterly awesome! Transfixed for 10mins solid. This guy should get a medal for this.

  • Wow........ This is absoloutly incredible.... The music, the cinematography , i had goose bumbs.....

  • absolutely stunning

  • Just amazing. Thanks for this piece of art.

  • Wow! this really separates the men from the boys.

  • Completely wonderful pianist. The videograghy is amazing and mesmerizing. An intoxicating experience - I love it. Thank you!

  • great!!!!

    what a job!!!

  • This is so freakin awesome. Good job on the video

  • The guy that has the idea of filming this that way did good!

Lol how ravel or the transposer ends the piece !

  • This is truly amazing, such an incredible piano arrangement of a classic orchestra piece. Bolero just doesnt get better than this on a piano.

  • Mr. Oldenberg,

I have your recording of Czerny and Liszt and I think it's superb. I love Czerny's op. 740 (unfortunately neglected) and am glad to hear such great playing of it. Great job on this Bolero also!

    Greetings from Florida!

  • Who is the performer'

  • Fred Oldenburg is playing - the user who uploaded the video.

  • Sheer Brilliance - the arrangement and execution are beyond reproach. I can't imagine anybody else playing it better.

I love the way that he milks that Bosendorfer for everything that it's worth.

    6 stars!!

  • wahnsinn! ! ! DAAAANKE!!

  • love it.

  • A truly beautiful and incredible rendition, i've never seen this done before. QUESTION: Seeing as YouTube no longer limits the length to 10 minutes, could the full version not be uploaded?

  • the original masterpiece lenght is 9 and a half minutes, dude...

  • Explendido!

    Que maravilha, que sensibilidade!

  • Magnificent!!!!

Passionate interpretation; stunningly executed. Thank you.

  • molto bello!

  • This is really amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic . . . Lovely arrangement, lovely playing!

  • That's the most beautiful transcription of Ravel's Bolerto to solo piano I have even witnessed.

Hell, this solo piano is better than many dual pianos I've seen.

That's an beyond amazing playing of this piece.

    My compliments!

  • I agree completely. from now on, I am a HUGE fan of Mr. Oldenbutg !

  • Quite a stunt to pull this off on the piano and done with well, a rarity.

  • omg amazinggg

  • strange, but interesting.

  • Excellent performance! Bravo! I believe you just accompanied soprano Cheryl Studer in recital in Steinfurt, Germany. Do you have any audio or video clips to share of that recital? Thank you.

  • Scalatti,

Cheryl Studer is still performing!? I did not know that, even if it was one year ago! I thought she quit completely.

  • WE ARETHE KNIGHTS WHO SAY NEE!

  • NEE

  • bravo very very good fred chapeau

  • One of the most wonderful, astonishing and virtuosistic, "transcendental" things I've ever heard. But how can you maintain two different rhythms while executing all those difficult passages of octaves and complex accords? And one appreciates also the "sprezzatura", the way in which you manage to make the most difficult things to seem easy and natural.

  • Oldenburg (1955) started playing the piano at 5. • simply brilliant!!!!

it's a shame you're not going to write it down...

  • Hello, I'm new on you tube. I play the piano for an orchestra and for myself. I'm gonna post some videos of piano works. Now I'm working very, very hard in this piece. I have also, a trasncription on paper I made mysefl. I'll hope everything's gonna be perfect. But now, I'm still working in this marvelous piece!! By the way...GREAT PLAYING AND MUSIC!! CONGRATULATIONS Fred Oldenburg!! I'll hope to play in that way!!

  • Very good version of Bolero on Piano. I've never heard this before!

  • Desaria yo tocar asi algun dia... aplausos

  • very nice music, seldom heard piano version of bolero!!

but is it the whole music?

  • Great transcription- great arrangement! Great musician! Unbelivable- Wow!

  • Very stupid idea!!!!

  • you know if you have the pice on midifile and play it on only piano sound you get excatly the same record as here maybe some changes....im wondering if they picked the arrangement form a midifile player...

  • This is an excellent rendition of Bolero. Very beautiful playing. 5/5

  • Bravo , Mr. Oldenburg!

May be only the other pianist who made the as rare and hard(and Brilliant) transcription as Your`s Bolero can understand You in Your unwishies to publish it.

I think that Transcriptions of Rachmaninov , Earl Wild , Horowitz and Volodos had`nt lost their sharm and magnetism after they were published.

Your Bolero is perfect not only like TEXT. You play it brilliantly. So , I don`t see the reasons to hold this peace only in Your hands.

    Thank You.

  • This is so amazing.. i tried to play the bolero on the piano, too. but failed. i really would play so good as you play! i love your interpretation of the bolero! you have really inspired me! Thanks for uploading and for the most beautiful video on youtube!

  • Genail!

    Meine Hochachtung!

  • Beautiful performance Mr Oldenburg. But I am a bit confused about two things: Are you playing on a self recording Imperial Bosendorfer, and have you recorded the rhythm before starting ??? There is something that goes amiss but I can't say what. If not, forgive my comment...

Another question : why don't you post it from the very beginning of the piece ???

  • Thanks for the compliment. I am really playing the piece!!

I do it also on concerts.

I did not post it from the beginning because then it,s to long (more then 10 minutes) so I could skip the end (pity) or the beginning.

    Greetings,

    Fred Oldenburg

  • Geweldig!!

  • Excellent

  • So exciting!! You do the performance that is very better than many orchestras.

    But I am dissatisfied.

Please carry the picture of all by all means.

  • Very impressive!!!

    Who has made this transcription?

Where can I find these sheet music?

  • I have made it myself! and no, you cannot find the sheet music.

    Fred Oldenburg

  • You should write it down, its a very nice transcription.

  • but it's very difficult to play and I like to do it myself!

  • Comment removed

  • I have a piano transcription on paper.

  • he is not lier!!!!!!!

  • LOL, It is true. some people will just not understand, cause it is so special. Absolute hearing FotTheWin ;)

  • sweet

  • Echt geweldig!

    Groet, Daniel

  • 10/10 - amazing!!!

  • Heel gaaf!

  • Go pappa!!! groetjes en kus luus

  • Wow, always super!

  • 10 Sterne für Bearbeitung und Interpretation!

    Spannende Kameraführung!

    Viele Grüße

    Hartmut
