There are many piano versions of the Bolero on You Tube, but the other performers really should have a comment pointing to this one. It's the best by far.
This version looks a lot (with some minor variations) like a piano transcription for 2 pianos that I have played in the past in school at Juilliard. Here there are 2 pianos and 4 hands involed! The pianist is not claiming that he is the only one here, so it's ok! the sounds you hear do NOT correspond to the keys played in the video. It's a GREAT performance though (by 2 guys ;)
Wrong! I visited several concerts of Fred Oldenburg, every concert he played alone. I never saw a second pianist!
If you're interested: come and visit his concert tomorrow (Oct 11 2011) in Enschede. He is playing the 12 etudes from Liszt, as an encore he will play his Bolero transcription.
@marcnycity it's not 2 people, but 1! I have also seen him perform it live. He puts something inside the piano, which makes the affected key thereafter sound like the snare drum you can hear!
i wonder how long it took to practice this piece. i believe this was written for a duet but he played it alone.... i'm not really sure so please inform me.
There seems to be some guy by the name of 'sjoseph0128' who is spamming people's videos with comments about how great you are. While I am sure that is flattering, it's not likely to make you friends.
Just saying. He felt it necessary to tell me that your version of Bolero was 'way better' than mine, ignoring the fact that my 'Bolero' is an original composition. If he likes Ravel's Bolero more, he is probably quite justified, but, really, I fail to see the need to spam people about your video.
Okay, how come they didn't film the other 3 pianists hiding behind the curtains? This is the most brilliant interpretation I heard by a soloist thus far! Hard to believe 10 fingers are capable of making this piece sound like it's played by an orchestra!
Technically speaking, it is as if the pianist had some extra invisible hands!.. Hard to believe it's played by only ten fingers!.. Artistically speaking, the pianist plays not according to himself, but according to the music and to the piano. Thank you for playing it and sharing it.
Unbelievable performance. I am a pianist who is interested in finding your transcription of this Bolero. Is it your transciption? If so, would you be able to tell me please where I can find/buy it? I think it is the best transcription of the Bolero to date, and it would mean a great deal to me if you could let me know (it is very important). waitingcreative@ymail.com

One of the most wonderful, astonishing and virtuosistic, "transcendental" things I've ever heard. But how can you maintain two different rhythms while executing all those difficult passages of octaves and complex accords? And one appreciates also the "sprezzatura", the way in which you manage to make the most difficult things to seem easy and natural.
