It appears that the fuel pump was on or a fluid was being pushed away from the vehicle by the water. You cannot extinguish a fuel or oil fire with water. I wonder if the driver left the fuel pump on when he left the vehicle - thinking that this was a fire ignited by fuel. It would seem that way due to the intense flames. Sorry to the owner for the loss.

Maybe all they had was water, but that fire could have been put out in 5 seconds with CO2 or Halon, or even FF foam. Water is just not the way to go on a gasoline fire. Hope there was enough of that vette left to restore.

No SCBA (air bottles), no PPEs, (the gear), terrible and unsafe way to use hold a hose, and most importantly, using water instead of CAFS (compressed air foam system) or even fire extinguishers is incredibly stupid because water obviously spreads rather than contains grease fires. since it was clear the fire department was stationed at this event, it would be common knowledge to use a fire extinguisher or CAFS.
