@Smargiasso33 Listen Joe Pass, Charlie Parker... I was playing sort of D alterd scale with chormatic scale mix over D7 chord. ...you hear A-7(b5) D7 &b9) G-7...etc.
@TomoFujitaMusic sorry dude i'm not in chords at all since i don't know any music theory ;) i learned almost by youtube and friends' tips...i'd like to know what you materially did at that point...if you want to share ok? no problem if u don't dude :)
@Smargiasso33 no need to know any music theory, but not knowing chord changes or song form.. very difficult to learn how to play good soloing. Hope you get some hints.
@Smargiasso33 it's a legato lick, so slide and pull offs. you need to know the notes and chords that are relevant in the song to be able to play something like that unless you are simply interested in the technique because it's improvisational. autumn leaves is a great starting point for someone trying to learn jazz.
And you call yourself a teacher...?!.... That what the worse rendition I've heard on youtube thus far!! lol - jk This demo makes me question whether to give into the hype of buying the mayer strat or get one of these bad boys! The Hot Rod 62 has the same type of neck (which I like) as the Mayer!
Hello Tomo! I know you've worked for eminence, so I urge to ask you: is there an equivalent for the Blue Marvel (stock speaker in my Peavey Classic 30) in the Eminence series, but 1) more defined, and 2) without the irritating treble I hear especially when I strike the strings hard? I really liked your tone here and that's what I want: fat, dark clean sound. Thanks, I'd really appreciate your help.
I love the tone sound of the guitar, I really want to get a ventage strat like that; something that was part of Leo Fender, I have a G&L Invader but to own a Leo Fender era Fender strat would be awesome.
Beautiful playing! I always loved Strats, but I like to play mostly jazz so I never considered them very seriously. This video among a couple of others convinced me to buy one anyway, and I love it! Thanks! ;)
Nice stuff! Cool jazz sound u've got there from a strat! I have a 90's strat and it sounds quite thin so I'm thinking of changing the neck to a U or C shaped neck. Do you think a fatter neck will fatten the sound of the strat?
I've changed necks quite a bit on a parts strat, and do believe a thicker neck makes for a thicker tone.
I do recommend adjusting the heights of the pickups (by ear) before doing something as radical as changing the neck. Also you might want to try using thicker strings on the strat (this helps considerably too)
Thanks for the advice mate, I've been using 11 gauge strings for quite some time now, but I've actually lowered the pickups more into the body and I did put a P-90 pickup in the neck...now the tone's as fat as a beef stake.
man you are great ! So much technic and yet it still musical ! those are rare skills you show here ! lot of feeling you give a true color to your notes !
What's the general feeling on the Eminence Legend 105s?? I am eyeing off a pair for my cabinet..I like vintage rich cleans, and some overdrive (who doesn't)!!
I noticed that fender champion 600 amp in the background. I just bought one of those and I am awestruck. It is an outstanding amp for taking anywhere you go.
try using bebop scales, they're commonly associated with jazz soloing and learn how to use chromatic runs in your playing and you'll start to get that sound.
The best habit to get into is to treat each chord separately. There are lengthy sections of autumn leaves where you can play the same scale, but the best way to think about it is in terms of changing key centers.
Hey i have a '62 reissue and i was wondering if you ever have problems with the g string being to loud and the b string not being loud enough? I love my strat but that kinda bugs me and it seems when i hear other vintage strats the string volume is balanced. Great playin man!
@Azrael888 No one ever said you can't play jazz on strats lol. They were originally designed by a jazz guitarist who worked for fender, because he wanted a more comfortable version of the tele.

Thank you so much! I think about tune's melody, chords... when I perform.. I don't think anything. Study triads, Rt 3rd 7th chords.

the intonation could be a probem and the general set-up of the guitar... you can prolly get a pro set-up for $60 or so maybe more for a better job
costaricangeneral 2 years ago
try adjusting the pickup height. if you bring the pickup closer then it will be louder
Mrsully51693 2 years ago
hey ,
how open is your preferred angle that you pick against the strings? (as opposed to picking parallel to the strings)
thanks!
