Im kinda confused because someone set up my hi-fi and set my pc sound up to the tape preset and it says mono but there is no option to change it to stero :(
OK, great explanation BUT..if the MIC is 1 "pick up" source (making it MONO) and 1 more makes it stereo (in the recording process) then when hearing a LIVE concert...are we HEARING in "stereo" because we have TWO ears (2 pick up sources) and a right & left hemisphere of the brain? This question is obviously more of an anatomical one but is one I'd love an answer to.
This assumes that the speakers (sound) are stationed in FRONT & sound waves are traveling toward us. Thanks! :D
Thank you for the very clear explanation. You actually delineate among mono, living stereo, and artificial stereo. Classical music, for instance, is recorded naturally in performance; and when the stereo recording is played, the acoustical space in which the music was played is recreated. With artificial stereo, instruments are thrown to one speaker or the other out of convenience, and the result is not natural acoustical sound.
If you only have one mic= record on a mono track, copy it pan one left and one right. Then re-record the same thing with the mic on the oppsoite side, pan left and right again. that will sound near enough stereo.
@6arcsn1sky the beatles are my favorite band so at least you know music but stereo is a lie they are really just taking music and tearing it and the but mono is an even sound and you can stand anywhere in the room and still get that sound but stereo is never even it is just a rip off to music so buy the beatles in mono and spread the word
actually now there are stereo microphones which actually have two microphones in a single "shell" and they work really well because they are relatively two sound sources.
dude..thank you, I understand stereo vs mono when it come to cables, so I did not understand why people were using mono tracks with an mbox(by plugging direct in) when stereo seems better. Anyone out there...does this mean I could plug my guitar direct in to my interface and also have a external mic hooked up? Or I would need to set up two seperate mics?
Thanks for making this vid its really helpful. I just recorded my first song on logic all in mono, should I still double all the tracks to make it sound more full even if thats not true sterio?
can you tell me why the lp records having label of mono or stereo it means mono technique is a old one which had been recording as one microphone? am i right? thankx
I like Mono because then the "true/real" sound won't run away from me. What do you think about this? maybe technology can solve this in future but I don't believe so...
nice vid, but kind of a douche baggy intro.

@gavinshowto I will definitely love to buy the Beatles in Mono, along with Bob Dylan Original Mono Recordings, but both are super high price.

@6arcsn1sky There is also a CCR singles collection. and one for the Hollies. Both in mono.
I like to hear fifties and sixties singles in mono because thats the way I heard them in dinar jukeboxes and on AM radio.
