  • SLAINTE' !!! You are awesome!!

  • This needs more cowbell.

  • It's sad this videos haven't got more views, because this music is truly fantastic.

  • Amazing

That is the sort of thing I think is actually missing in many of celtic bands nowadays, this energy and vibrance, the "wild" celtic spirit!

  • Good to see more people watching this, i love this piece and the wild celtic bagpipe piece as well.

  • I love you guys <3

  • What's the name of the group?

  • @h8er42 group is Slainte, google the web site for their cds and other stuff. Ray

  • these guys are just amazing and i love their work

  • I'm impressed and that's all that matters ;) Ha, when I was the title I automatically thought, "A wild violinist appears!" I'm such a nerd

  • What was the name of the first tune you played? I've heard it a lot but never come across it written down. Thanks! Great playing!

  • These guys are fantastic! Played in Nealon's in Skerries for a while, ah the sessions! Yis can drink some jager too!

  • Please do more "wild" pieces - they really get me energized!!

  • @MarkHarmer quite interested, where do ya call from?

  • the guy on the fiddle can play THAT and THE BAGPIPES >>!!!? EPICNESS!!!!

  • Out of curiousity, has Heath ever got his hair caught in the strings while he's playing?

  • Thank you for the lovely music. Very nice playing. You are very talented. Keep filling the world with your music and leaving smiles everywhere you go!

  • It's a great sound. I'd love to hear you guys live sometime

    paddypunx.blogspot.com

  • amazing. wonderful. I liked it a lot. and that dude has some long hair.

  • This was totally awesome. Actually I like the "Hups & Heys" it gives the song a live character like you're in there dancing your ass off to this wonderful music.

  • nice fiddle playing & music

  • Beautiful, i love it.

  • All you envious sickos who have mean things to say about this awesome performance should just jump off a cliff!!

Keep up the great stuff Mark, this sure is a one of kind performance!! I just cant seem to have enough of it...I wish all of you folks only the best... As for the fiddler, man.. you rock!!

  • @chaulzer Cheers! I SO miss playing with the band since I moved home to Australia, I know they miss me too. SLAINTE!

  • @DavidCKendall Dude-not cool. Celtic music shouldn't be tainted by politics, you misbegotten, disgusting bastard!

  • @DavidCKendall Tunes are, Tam Lin's (or The Glasgow Reel), The Glory Reel, High Road to Linton, Dick Gossip's, and Tam Lin's again

  • @heaththepiper Thanks for that mate!

  • Comment removed

  • I love this! Do you guys have a CD? Your music is great.

  • I really loved this. Do you guys have a CD? Your music is great!

  • Even in Holland....this music is so great, grand and good! Were can i buy cd from you guys?

    This is gooooood!

  • WOW!!!, You guys are fantastic!. no bs no stupid outfits just pure music at its finest. KUDOS!!!!!

  • where are you guys from ? where was this filmed ?

  • First and last are Tam Lin and, while I recognise the others, I can't remember their names...

Going to have to look up Catharsis, now.

Uh. Band members - why not put up the tune names somewhere?

  • Rough as a badgers arse.

  • And my friends still ask me why I love Irish Music!

  • Awesome! Would LOVE to have you guys at a party!!!

  • Very beautiful, where can you be watch live? Thanks for upoloding!

  • what tune is this? Tam lin?

  • @lelorien the fist tune is catharsis and the second is tam lin. don't know the third one tho

  • I really enjoy the way this video seems to flow. And the guy saying the "hup, hup, hup, hey!" just before the tune change always seems to make it a part of the song. Just wonderful! I wish I could play the fiddle as well as Heath, especially on the Tam Lin reel.

  • Lovely piece, thanks for sharing it.

Wondering here about the places where Celtic and Kentucky fiddling meet. Is it a common shared cultural thing from some years back, or perhaps it's just the way fiddlers sound when they cut loose?

  • I see kids do that, where is it cool?

  • As you did this some years ago, I presume that your playing is more mature now. As you play more, the finer points of celtic music will reveal themselves. The key is listening to great players. Decoration is important. Learn to embelish the long note. Slur more and saw less. The way to know when to change is to arrange the set so everyone knows what's next. The first tune is Tamlyn, I can't remember the second, the third is High Road to Linton and the fourth is Dick Gossip. Who made the Bass?

  • is it really necessary to say "hup, hup hey" every time you're about to change tunes?

  • @gillysabeth Well, you have to have someone coordinate when the tune changes, as it's done live, and we do different numbers of each tune depending on how we're feeling. Plus, they have to be able to say it loud enough that we all know when a change of tune is coming up. Not sure how else you'd do it.

  • @MarkHarmer Shoot, I didn't even know it was for the changing of tunes, I thought it was part of the music. I've listened to a lot of groups that add "vocals" to their instrumental pieces, but the vocals aren't really lyrics more of the "hup, hup hey" style. I liked it, it's main goal is obviously to help you guys but I found it entertaining, it actually fit the music really well. So if people must complain about it, just tell them it's certainly necessary because it's actually part of the set!

  • @KeltiKyrie Thank you - that's it exactly. I'm guessing the people who complain are used to studio-produced CDs where everything can be refined. This is a live performance and (of course) quite rough for that. Glad you see that - other people seem to miss the point completely.

  • @MarkHarmer only seeing this now. try fireworks next time.. that way this video would actually be exciting and everyone would know you're about to change tunes:)

  • @gillysabeth Hmm - do I detect a wee bit of criticism there? Let's have a look at your own videos. Oh wait - there aren't any!

  • @MarkHarmer i know my limits.

  • @gillysabeth i liked the hup hays they give the music a cool old wordy vibe

  • @gillysabeth Yes, you have to be able to signal the changes! There's no sheet music or conductor and it's done live, so the only way to cue anything is vocally.

  • @fiddle0351 Sounds a bit racist there! Actually as you ask we're a mix of English, Irish and Australian, or were, when we did this some years ago. I notice the negative comments often come from people who don't upload anything themselves. I'm guessing you play, so come on, upload some of your playing - I notice there's nothing in your own uploaded videos.

  • @MarkHarmer hi, do you still have cds or songs on iTunes? i couldn't find any under MarkHamer, i love these pieces they are amazing!

  • amazing song, so passionate and celtic, the violinist is out of this world good

  • Comment removed

  • @fiddle0351 Not dreadful at all. Good fun, which is the whole point. Don't pay any attention, lads.

  • OMG I had this CD alonggggggggg time ago and it got lost and man did it upset me later on in life when i felt like listening to this..and here it is! Yes thank uuuuuu

  • Smokin!

  • i am greek but i love this music...

  • I have just loved everything I have watched from you guys! Is there anything that you CAN'T play, Heath? Lol!

  • You are all awesome. It makes my blood run afire.

  • Its the best folk music ever

  • What is the group name, and do they have albums?

  • Man, gotta know what those tunes are! that's amazing! if anyone knows, please tell me!

  • wonderful... some happiness in this cloudy snowy day!

  • I have seen this video more than 1000 times this music is so beautiful

  • Good grief, forget the critque and enjoy this awesome music!

  • who are these guys and girls? they rock my socks =)

  • What is the name of the song? I reconize it but cant place a name with it.

  • It has lots of names. The Tamlin, Tam Lin, Tam Lynn, The Glasgow Reel

  • Thanks

  • Tam Lynn is also a scottish folk legend about a man who is taken away by the shee too.

  • @DallanTaco: Try out "Strings Of Fire" from Lord Of The Dance.

    watch?v=cigwBJqOd_g

Ain´t no way I can get closer...

  • Come on. It's Irish Folk music. This song in particular is supposed to be fun. You can't stop your critique enough to dance a little with a pretty lass?

  • i want to dance now. Haha.

  • does heath play everything? :P

  • I'm just curious to know what they do on nights when the fiddle-player is sick ?

Too much rhythm in my humble opinion.

Having said that I did once play with a band that had THREE acoustic guitars, though I was only depping as caller and bass-player.

  • This is fun! Also check out video for Celtic group Kirkmount.

  • Is this the Tam Lin Reel? It sounds very like that that's played by Steeleye Span at the end of The Old Maid In The Garrett on their Time album. And I thought they played it fast. This is awesome!

  • yea it is tam lyn, also call the glasgow reel

  • This is just pure awesomeness. I wish this tune never stopped playing :3

  • My two year old son LOVES this! Awesome!!!

  • Go Slainte!

    Especially Heath...

    Your fiddling is amazing!

Keep up the great work! All of you!

  • Awsome with that drum !

  • I wish the harp was a bit less faded into the background. Mark, you are pretty much amazing on the harp so it's a shame when I can't hear you all that well. :)

  • My respects, very awesome music to hear, makes you happier. Really nice. My wife found it marvellous too! Thanks! :)

  • 1:25 its awsome with that drum !

  • bodhran.. is that the drum thing? looks fun to play!

  • i've seen heath play the bagpipes, and i thought he was incredible, but now that i see him play the violin, i am shocked. He's automatically my hero.

  • Is that fiddle player human? I didn't think it was physically possible to play that fast! Nice!

  • where can i find the music for this? i have got to learn this song on the fiddle!

  • yay crazy versions of tam lin!

  • man I love this type of music almost as much as I love metal.

  • agree, me2!

  • because metal came out of it i think

  • @ajaxfan34 the band is Slainte, and if you go to there web page you will find the cds and a tape, i bought them and they are brilliant. and other stuff as well

    good luck , Ray

  • @ajaxfan34 same here

  • @ajaxfan34 haha! Same goes for me. Funny how one can like two extremes :)

  • @lelorien If you think about how fast metal players take off on the drums and guitars, then you compare it to the fiddler and such... the music is simular. =)

  • wait a sec, the guy rockin the fiddle is the talented bagpiper as well? deeeep respect!!! so what's your name? need your cds!!! chris

  • Comment removed

  • dude the are called slainte u can find there webside on google and yes they a so cool

  • thats gotta take some crazy practice time, great job

  • it's so bloody cool man damn i love this band

  • This group is one kick-ass Celtic group. Love the wild fiddle and pipes performances. Da iawn!

    Diolch yn fawr.

  • i don't even hold to my seat. dancing this you enjoy the music even more!

  • You guys are just awesome!! You had me holding on to my seat....

  • I shall say this only once...

The first tune is Tam Lyn's or The Glasgow Reel

Next is The Glory Reel, its a Donegal tune. Altan does it.

    High road to Lynton.

Next, I think it's called Dick Gossip's. We always called it Paddy's. I learnt it from Lord of The Dance (those two hot blond chicks playing the fiddle!)

    Ending with Tam Lyn's again.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments.

  • great performance.

  • What r the names of the tunes in this set, it's "smokin"

  • I know the tune at 1:47 is called High Road to Linton. I can't help you with the rest of the names though... sorry.

  • High Road to Linton is one; two others are the Calliope and Congress reels.

  • Too fast.

  • Supposed to be fast: this is the tempo of a reel, and this is a medley of reels.

  • gday im a fiddler meself and i do all the irish folk music yself and it would be an honour to play by your side one day your fucking hectic

  • Go hiontach !!! 5* well earned.

  • Devilboy667, Get a life!

I am the fiddle player in the video.

Stop trying to take the credit for MY talent.

Dont forget to take your medication....

  • Yep - Heath (above) was definitely the fiddle player. Devilboy667, you're just jealous!

  • my congratulatulations ,man. It was just beautiful!

  • @heaththepiper Your an amazing fiddle player. I am into climbing big mountains, you've seemed to capture the music thats going threw my head when approaching the summit. I love it, and keep up the great work!

  • Is this band still together? I'd buy a CD from them if they are.

  • go to the slainte web page and buy the cds and cassette there, i did and it was money well spent.

It seems a tiny bit fast, but it's nice :)

  • do you know the name of the other part?

  • One of the other parts is a reel called Jenny's gone to Linton, although it's also known as Domhnall Beag an t-siuchair.

  • The ancestors knew how to make music!

  • G R E A T !!!!

  • what a fantastic song! I took the advice and "listened to it loud" - worth the banging on the wall from the flatmates lol

  • I dunno, the didgeridoo is up there with 'em.
