If I recall, Compass Box tried a similar process (the addition of toasted oak staves to the whisky) in their Spice Tree blended whisky but the company got in trouble with the Scotch Whisky Association. It's a good thing Maker's Mark is making bourbon not Scotch.
I want to try Makers Mark 46. The original is ok I'm actually drinking some right now but my favorite bourbon is Knob Creek. I still need to try Bookers and Knob Creek signal barrel.
i know a lot of people love this stuff...but i just dont get it...its not that its bad..it just doesent do it for me....buffalo trace is wayyy better...great review as usual though
Thanks for the comment. By law, anything labeled a "Bourbon" cannot have any additive of color other than what occurs naturally from the charred/toasted wood. Just FYI.
@MM4L94066 Thanks for the feedback. I had some severe struggles with the volume early on. Please check the latest reviews and let me know if they are clear for you. Would love to know your feedback.
@brente1014ul Wheated bourbons absolutely can have unbelievable depth and complexity. One of my favorite bourbons on the planet is Pappy Van Winkle 15. It's a wheater and it's fantastic. To me, wheated bourbons get better with age and can take age better than heavy rye recipes (to a point). That's just a theory, but one that's proven mostly true for me time and again. 46's finishing process has ramped up the flavor a lot over the original offering.
Great review I think it is important to note the oak addition is European Oak that changes the flavor a lot because American White Oak and European Oak have different flavor profiles.
when are you gonna do scotch reviews??? i would love to know your opinion

@DRUNKASSPUNK800 I'd give Elmer T. Lee a try, Elijah Craig 12 year as well. Just a few suggestions.

So this is like Maker's Mark 2.0, huh? But with a touch of maple syrup.
Sounds awesome. Maker's Mark is so solid, and it's amazing that such a solid bourbon has become available pretty much everywhere.

@misterstafford69 I can offer a couple of suggestions. Any price range you have in mind? Do you like sweeter/smoother or spicy/bolder bourbons?
