  • You're spot on there mate! Every bloody song I hear on top 40 these days is AutoTuned!!! I personally decided to make a pisstake AutoTune song sing at my absolute worst to prove that any douchebag can do it lol, you'll see it in the video response.

  • It should only be used in techno or something where it's supposed to sound like a robot. Otherwise it sucks

  • Actually the programs creators intended to find oil...

  • I totally agree. I even created a facebook group called "Stop using Auto-tune - It sounds like crap" because I hate how it's ruining music today.

There was a time when the requirements to get a record deal was that you had to be able to sing. It's not like that anymore. Use of Auto-Tune is like having an auto-mechanic with no degree in medicine perform surgeries on patients just after watching a few howto videos on YouTube.

  • I Don't Use Autotune!

  • I hate how rap forced its way into electronic music by using this disgusting autotune. DEATH TO AUTOTUNE

  • The human race is being controlled by guilt and corruption a self hate prophacy is destroying thier belief in mankind, best foot forward. We will survive?

  • It's OK if you use it once and a while only to fix a couple of wrong notes. That's perfectly fine. But overusing it ruins the emotion that drives the song.

  • Dude, autotune has been around forever

    it's nothing new

they don't use it because they can't sing

they use it to give the pop music a more "electronic feel" to it

    if you hate autotune

i guess you should hate phraser, echo

and reverb and vocoder etc. etc.

    as well!

  • @biebershine Only since 1997. That's after Kurt Cobain died and when TuPac and Notorious Big died, so it wasn't THAT long ago, especially if you are over 25.

  • @biebershine

um, autotune has not been around forever

autotune is about 14 years old, so unless ur still in elementary school, thats not a long time

and yes, just the name admits its cuz they cant sing

    AUTO TUNE

it automatically puts your voice in tune

    thats by definition

  • @devdesmusic amen to that

  • this is fucking hilarious

  • kesha, selena gomez, kanye, niki minaj, rebbecca black, ..you suck HARDCORE!!!

  • I used to hate autotune but now, I think it's cool if it's used in the right way. Kanye west uses it perfectly in love lockdown, rob swire of pendulum uses it well, and tpain simply uses it as an effect. search "t pain live" and look at some of his stuff. he can sing.

  • Music died in 1997.

  • @ryanmshepard92 that was when the internet was made according to something

  • @thekidinasuit Actually, I put that down because that was the year Autotune was invented.

  • @ryanmshepard92 wait how did you get that trivia on autotune cause that could come in handy

  • @thekidinasuit I actually just looked it up on Wikipedia. I also found a site where the creator of Autotune tries to defend his product. It's piss-poor, as you can imagine.

  • @ryanmshepard92

    well not all music's bad

i prefer stuff before i was born, but there's still some good around today

  • Autotune killed real musicianship. We need real music back. We been waiting for it since about 5-6 years now.

  • Music today has shit loads of auto-tuning and im like "why not use their regular natural voices"? So i refuse to listen to them

  • Lil wayne, Drake, kanye west, and the rest all ruined the rap game with this shit (even worse kid cudi-no talent ass clown)

  • @squirejacobtaber

Kid Cudi - "I would probably not use auto-tune in a way that a lot of other artists have used it. That doesn't mean I'm against auto-tune. I like how it sounds. But, you know, I don't want to...I think I have an okay voice."

Cudi uses auto-tune sometimes but mostly for creating an effect (its first intended use) not in particular for hiding his voice. You didn't mention T-pain. T-pain might have the worst voice of anyone in this planet every vocal is through a vocoder

  • @squirejacobtaber kanye west only used it for one album fool hear his collage dropout and graduation albums

  • @Eminem117Nas those are his old albums, he uses it in all his new shit

  • Why! I know they use fake guitars, fake drums, and fake instruments, but those actually sound a bit alike as the real thing! If you listen to Ke$ha, Kanye West, etc., they don't even TRY to sound alike! What happened to great voices? Next thing we know, we'll have the opera on auto-tune.

Why don't they try a duet with U2 or someone? See how that turns out, with no auto-tune.

  • The way I look at Autotune, is that it's OK to cover over small glitches, but when they overuse it to the point that it's painfully obvious, then it's just bad all around. I don't blame Autotune itself, I blame the overrated overexposed douchebags like Lil' Bitch (Wayne), Souljia Bitch, Justin Bieber, etc. that overuse the hell out of that shit to cover over the fact that they have little to no natural talent

  • Autotune makes me puke!

  • @DarthVaderLovesYou It's not Autotune that makes me puke, it's the so called "artists" like Lil Wayne that abuse it that makes me puke

  • The only good auto-tune is the bed intruder, because it's actually funny. Can't stand how people become famous over such nonsense.

  • Autotune is a fad, and unfortunately once the fad becomes obsolete, it looks like it's going to run hip hop right into the ground. That is, unless alternative hip hop goes mainstream to save it, like alternative rock saved rock n' roll from its hairmetal-induced demise. We'll have to see what happens, but I see a ridiculous amount of parallels between this autotune-dance-rap shit and disco.

  • @VegitoVai90 There's still real hip hop out there, it just went underground like Krs-One

  • @AdoublesLdouble

There's also still a lot of real metal and punk out there too, despite what the hairmetal, nu metal, and pop-punk bands did to their reputations. Hip hop will still have a devoted audience too after it falls out of favor with the average unintelligent person, who only cares about how the artist looks and if there's a catchy hook to a song. Real hip hop hasn't been mainstream since the mid 90's, same with rock n' roll.

  • @VegitoVai90

agree, hiphop used to get radio play,or at least sold the most until about 96 when stuff like master p and bone thugs came out

  • Why does this shit music keep getting forced on people and played on radio stations?

  • i needs mah nuke!

  • Fuck autotune and everybody who using it! Fuck them with a big rubber dick, than break it off and beat them with it!

  • WHY CAN'T PEOPLE STOP USE COMPUTER.

    Learn how to sing!

    Autotune makes bad go worse!

If you can't sing accept it!!

    :S

  • @aatefmagic ke$ha it's not a threat, Do you know what's going to happen to her? yeah yeah, the same shit that happens to the " chicken noodle soup song" 1 year later noone will remember that. Right now my concern is the goofy little doofus justing beiber, He has been brain washing these fucking teenagers peace of shit, in fact i hate teenagers they're so fucking stupid and they think they know everything, oh take as an example the jonas brother, who the fuck mention them, nobody!

  • @jhonnyboy2050

Please don't spell the 's' in Kesha with a dollar sign. It's painfully obnoxious and hard to look at without squinting your eyes

  • @XMOO7 Oh man! how did i do that? i'm so sorry man i really i'm

  • You can try to fuck up, but you can't with autotune. It's for people that don't have a good voice, although some just choose to use it anyways. In the past, they used a voice box which is totally different, much more respectable, at least to me.

  • Holy crapz, you made me laugh x'D

  • Auto-tuning could be used to good (see Daft Punk), but it's really way too overused and really lowers the credibility of music (especially when it is used for pitch correction and other such minor tweaks--I don't care that the vocals weren't sterile-perfect as long as it sounds good for the most part, plus, there's always doing another take).

  • You're telling me!

  • Word.

  • Fantastic video! Auto Tune is for lazy "artists" who can't bother to practice enough. MTV and radio stations should not encourage or reinforce this kind of s**t by playing their music. If you can't sing properly then you should take up another profession.

  • I can be ambivalent about most things, but the prevalence of auto tune and all this music made just to sell a ringtone is pushing me past that point where I'm starting to scrutinize it in situations where I'd normally react in a casual manner. While many vocal effects only change the tone color and sometimes the pitch of a note, Auto Tune ALWAYS controls the pitch. It's bad enough that you have one generic artist piled on top of the next. Now you have a computer singing the same melody too.

  • The reason why we like music without autotune is because we can feel soul and emotions thorugh the song not just some robotic guy singing like a weirdo.

  • Autotune has spawned the careers of dozens of talentless "artists". The worst case out there is Ke$ha Tik Tok. I have to admit, if it made me millions, I'd do it. I can't sing worth sh**.

  • amen

  • When will the music industry realize that autotune belongs in house, techno, and trance? Not pop, and not rap!

  • When will the the world realize that autotune doesn't belong ANYWHERE

  • @ichbindaslodoly The original use of autotune was to distort the voice of a SPEAKER not a SINGER (like in house music and the like). And I'm okay with that.

But when T-Pain and Kanye fuck shit up, it all goes down.

  • Yeah, I mean Hoootttdaaamnn. It's like kids can't see this music is shit! I mean shit, those soul artists could really sing (Marvin, Stevie, Al Green, Otis!) not this shit! I blame Cher, T-Pain in the ass, Lil Wayne all them! Cheap ass music! I think the labels try to screw us back for downloading their music. SO they torture our ears with to death with this shit!!! Can't we do nothing about it? Protest? Bomb? Boycot? Kids please. When will it end!??? One more autotune artists and I kill myself.

  • @royalsteven Exactly.

  • Thanks you agree :D

  • I'm afraid I'm gonna stick with my oldies (60s-80s were the best, with some '50s and '90s pretty good). I don't listen to ANYTHING since 2000! One of the most important changes in popular music over the past 50 years is the gradual progression away from a religious perspective to a scientific ( technological) philosophy. The best music today is almost entierly located underground, which means you have to look to find it, and unfortunately won't have that timeless appeal that mainstream proides.

  • The sign that newer music won't become oldies is already becoming obvious. Today, 20 years ago means around 1989/1990, and rap was starting to invade the charts and the remaining '80s stuff was becoming less good; where as in 1989/90, people really missed stuff from around 1969/1970, and really loved it. Pop music is sadly dying.

  • @pannoni1 While I have to agree that those time periods are the best (and indeed most of my favorite music is 60s-80s music, with 90s in there because I grew up in the 90s and 50s just because), there is still some good music being made. Admittedly, the majority of it won't be found on mainstream radio, but that's the fun of it--looking for and discovering artists you never heard of but would love.

  • @pannoni1 (continued)

Of course, you do already know that. However, there may just be some underground music that sticks. The Velvet Underground didn't have the best of success in the mainstream realm when they were beginning, and now they're considered legends.

  • It's sad how this generation appreciates this tech being used in almost every "popular" song. Boy, have standards really drop. I'm upset I have to start pulling away from Hip hop, because of this. *Shakes head.*

  • I was cool with T-pain and auto tune in his "buy you a drank" era, but between him being on seemingly everyone's singles, and Kanye and Wayne using it on every single track now, the shit is killing me nowadays. The 3 of them should do a gay porn and dub the noises in auto tune!

  • i agree, singers who use auto tune all the time should be no where near a microphone. i have seen it used for very small sections (less than 10 seconds) and have it turn out good., but kanye west and t.i. have no business making music. if you want to improve your singing try the old fashioned way, lessons and reverb.

  • Autotune is for lazy artists. There are hundreds of artists that don't use autotune that IMO sound better than those who do.

  • agreed... i quit listening to the radio a long ass time ago, and now whenever i put it on (which only ends up being about 5 seconds) all i hear are these fake ass rappers trying to sing instead of spitting real lyrics... it's just intolerable at this point.. a new genre of music is saturating the radio... so stay away, keep supporting the real artists that are keeping real hip-hop alive

  • It's so annoying almost every song I listen to has autotune and I just turn it off, I just hate it now.

  • Auto Tune instantly ruins everything.

  • this guy's the man.

  • saying 'Auto-Tine Sucks' is like saying 'Breathing is required to live'

  • Seriously, autotune is just a gimmick used to distract people from the shitty, repetitive lyrics.

  • and their lack of singing ability

  • Auto tune is only for people with no talent whatsoever like kenye west t- fucking pain. and people with no brain will find it cool.

    Die...

  • @jhonnyboy2050 YEA AND THAT FAG LIL WENDY FAGGIN BABY!!!

  • @jhonnyboy2050 justin bieber, selena gomez, miley cyrus, the jonas brothers......

  • @jhonnyboy2050 ...And Rebecca Black!

  • FUCK autotune

  • too bad i don't think any of the kids in my school are even aware of auto tune.

  • Finally i fell like i belong. voice tune must be brought down. it's simply not fair and all it does is show that you're a pathetic loser who's to lazy to actually sing or learn how. if you use ur just telling the world that u have no talent. FUCK VOICE TUNE.

  • Death to Autotune....seriously.

  • Guess who is currently #1 on Amazon's best sellers list? THE BEATLES! It's clear that even today's teens don't like much current music nowadays.

  • Thank God for that! Finally some good news!

  • Agreed. I'm 18, and I hate this form of music to death. I loved Hip hop with a passion, but this tech is killing it for me. I'm staying faithful to old skool artists.

    Bob Marley 4ever!

  • @pannoni1 I don't think teens are the ones buying The Beatles on Amazon. I am a teen and I despise my generation's music with a passion. I can't escape it. I promise you, teens today are not listening to the Beatles. It's just Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, and (dare I say it) Justin Bie-fucking-ber. 1997 was the year Autotune was invented and since then, music has reached an all time low. I dread to see what my children's music will be like.

  • @pannoni1 The Beatles FTW!!! Autotune fucking sucks

  • @pannoni1 Haha, you think it's teens buying music from stores? Everyone I know just downloads everything. People just listen to the crap that's played on the radio. The legit part, like me, buys the music and merchandise. Ask anyone below just 20, if they buy or illegally download music. Though we can't deny The Beatles are godlike.

  • @pannoni1

Actually there is a lot of good music being produced today... it doesn't sell. Perhaps this is because the industry choses to push the banal. Radio stations play what they are given.

The only reason the 90s had such good music is that the industry decided to take a risk and classify music by region. The "seattle sound" eventually became "grunge" and it was made up of an eclectic mixture of different styles.

Maybe when they are done blaming pirates for lackluster sales...

  • Comment removed

  • The thing about Auto Tune is... How the heck can you pull it off live?

  • Andybato: For live auto tuning, all you need is a laptop and software like Antares. Then, find someone with no talent and hand them a microphone.

  • Oh, I know that. It's just a rhetorical, comical, satirical question. Its all good.

  • they can do it actually.

  • ENOUGH of this bullshit !!! using it on so called cookie cutter ''artists'' is 1 thing,..but now MARIAH, JENNIFER HUDSON, SHAKIRA, ...what's next , suppose the new WHITNEY cd will be ruined by it also ! whoever invented this needs 2 be hung, drawn,& quartered !!!

  • Check out WHITNEY's Salute! Autotune all over!

  • great ,,who's next...this sh#t's so played out...

  • auto tune does suck indeed glad to see its finally started to dissapear.

  • I'm glad to see Autotune is finally starting to choke. I feared it would be here forever.

  • D.O.A.

  • YEA! DEATH OF AUTOTUNE!!! go jayz

  • autotune is so lame. we need some real talent!

  • LMAO! NICE and so true!

  • Any genre that doesnt use real instruments or proper vocals isnt music......Kanye West just proved that most hip-hop is not real music

  • Thanks for posting this yes its true autotune sucks and yes its just making people in the hip hop community look corny.Look I love hip hop its my culture ,I live. but you feminin rappers are making us look so bad please quit man please !1 song okay 2 songs aright but 15o of em?everbodies tryn to sound the same..its fucking corny its an abuse of an effect and I hate you the most because you yourself know its corny but you dont care because its "in"and its "how we getin paid.." right?

  • Look at it this way, people who use autotune can't sing worth shit.

  • If you have something real to say, people wont care what your voice sounds like. Good Vid! I'm an audio engineer and REFUSE to use autotune. I'm always able to talk artist out of it. Its degrading to the art...

  • man i agree with you 100% these guys suck ball hairs, and its an absolute fucking joke that there are all these people out there with so much talent, going unnoticed but these fucking doucebags are making millions by using a fucking computer program

  • exactly

  • love this: short, sweet , to the point, and pretty damn true.

  • t-pain is the only one who has the right to auto tune...he started the whole trend. i still think his music sucks though.

yeah, auto tune is annoying as hell. i hate it when people call that top 40 stuff rap/hip hop. its pop and there is minimal talent involved in most of it. (a bit off topic, but i had to say it)

  • Cher used it but it was actually Madonna that used it first in "rain" where she was struggling to reach the high notes, so every one is copying her

  • every one uses auto tune in the industry now days, it doesn't just make you sound like a robot , it corects pitch.

Listen to any artist through headphones ,any artist since 2000 and you can hear it.

its a very similar effect to double tracking (used heavily in the 80's)

or just go to a Beyonce concert

  • no way, double tracking started in the 60s and it was used as more of a reverb/echo type thing, just to give the voice a bit of a fuller sound without having to actually retake and overdub the vocals. this actually changes the original recording, and like you said "corrects pitch", if the vocalist cant sing in the correct pitch in the first place, why do they even have a career in singing?

  • if you read my comment again, I said used heavily in the 80's not invented in the 80s (LOL)

  • Many people double track their vocals. It's not just an 80's thing, you'd be surprised.

  • honey Im a producer , Im quite well aware of double tracking, Please try to read comments first b4 responding

    Thankyou

  • Don't call me honey. I'm not into following youtube threads to make point by point arguments about their uninformed remarks.

    "honey Im a producer"

Yeah, and everyone who has a sequencer and a microphone call themselves "producers" these days anyway. Doesn't give you credibility. Just spell out the fucking word BEFORE. Why do people insist on using that text message shit when they could just as easily type it? Fuck I hate people. Morons.
