artgo2000: BLESS YOU!! I was going crazy looking for this piece on the soundtrack. Well, o.k., I didn't actually buy the soundtrack, I was looking through the tracks as listed on Amazon - all 35 of them, typing each one on Youtube, hoping someone uploaded a version of that track on Youtube... NOTHING! I kept thinking did I miss it somehow!? Thanks so much for the info, and for uploading this clip. Now I know to buy 2 CDs, the soundtrack AND Lully's Dies Irae.
This is untrue because "Dies Irae" by Lully was composed in 1683 for the Queen Marie Thérèse funeral (Louis XIV's wife) and not for the Queen Anne d'Autriche funeral (Louis XIV's mother) who died in 1666.
Here it miss the Bass singer part between Orchestral Ouverture and Choir reprise (Dies Irae, Dies Illa, Solvet Saeclum in Favilla, Teste David cum Sibylla / This day will be the day of towering rage when this world will be crushed in ashes. That's what David and the Sibyl asserted)
Unfortunately the requiem is not on the soundtrack, this is the reason I put the information about the motet Dies Irae in the description. You can find it on amazon.
Wow. The music is really powerful! It is also very interesting to see the "relationsship" in the clip between Lully and the king. Lully uses his music to "create" the feelings of the king.
this is one of my favorite movies and very important for me also cause im a countertenor and im studying to Lully's music
sadly i lost the movie and now i can't buy it again , cause here (i live in México) they don't sell it anymore here only the sountrack is available :(
The mother of the king LuisXIV has just died, and he's bewailing her. they hadn't been in good terms, so i think the scene is quite interesting. the way he realises that he has lost someone close, and so on.
...and you forget to say that people who loves art buy original movies (it just cost EUR 10) and do not download them becuase that's the only way that the independent cinema find financing. (I don't know english, sorry) Nobody made "silly jokes"
what if someone is so poor that cannot buy it (I am from eastern europe, and i can't get these videos else, because they are too expensive for us... i bring the two kids alone...)

I hope you could listen the "Te Deum" of Lully for the Sun King, it's fantastic! Almost 40 minutes of music.
