The only thing that is messed up about this rant is this. The video was only blocked in YOUR country alone. I have a song from UMG in one of my videos, and it says video is blocked in the following countries. So the only reason your video was blocked was due to region. =[
Somebody should use one of UMG's Christian label groups on a video, like Trin-I-Tee 5:7 or whoever, and see if God strikes UMG dead for removing a song about Him. That'd be frickin awesome.
Surely using and crediting a song and the artist is free advertising for them? I think Youtube works in their favour, I've download hundreds of songs that I wouldn't have found if it wasn't for Youtube.

My suggestion: check for some CC licensed music. If their license don't allow derivative works then ask for their permission to use it otherwise you will again violate a copyright.

Some labels already understood it makes sense to put advertisement on it ... It is not YouTube's choice ... they only react by order of the copyright owner.

I honestly don't know exactly what the deal is but from what I hear, there's a "we reserve the right to pretty much do whatever the hell we want" clause in that fine print in the contract between UMG and Youtube. Eek.

1. The band have changed labels and so have the rights to said music, taking them out of the universal group deal.
2. The deal itself probably includes a reservation that the label can object to certain uses they find offensive Happy slapping to sound of Rammstein anyone? (just a joke don't hurt me!)
This copyright issue has brought time and time again on youtube. My friend one time did use music from UMG and thought he was ok to use it and made the same notices as you Jerry, the same thing happened to him. I think this is all bollocks of whats going on?
Sadly I cant come on sunday but if there is another Harry Potter meet-up I will attend.
This is why I don't use copywrited performances in my videos; even if I'm allowed under their usage rules, they've pulled it out from other people (YTAdvocates have discussed this in the past) and I don't trust it.
Creative Commons and permission from indie bands are what I try to stick with. (although I haven't actually put in any music in my videos (I sing without back up music), this is what I would do if I did. Plus, I'm thinking up a music video for an indy band,so, um, yeah.Go indies!)

The copyright owner has four options:
