To all the people asking about "omg lik wut happned wit halo???"

Cortana secretly kept the Activation Index for installation that Master Chief blew up in the first game (343 Guilty Spark's Installation). When they reach the Ark, which is in another galaxy entirely, they find that it has been building another Halo to replace the one Master Chief destroyed. Realizing that activating this Halo would cause no damage in their galaxy, Cortana and the Chief activate it using the Index she kept.

in halo one cortana has the index and keeps it throughout the halo trilogy and at theend of halo 3 they activate the halo from halo one jump on the forward unto (or onto dont know hich and it splits into three the arbiter escapes to the earth and spartan 117 (the master cheif)is on a third wich is drifting through space and the other third is destroyed (this only happens if you dont skip the credits).
