Not if you have the floor lubricated with oil. Dry buffing with number 2 wool will scratch but not if you keep the oil wet. Burnishing with number 1 wet or dry will never cause scratches
no scratches if you only burnish with steel wool when it is wet with oil. We use #1 steel for walnut , white oak, ash etc and #0 steel wool for maple, cherry and softer woods. Once the wood is smooth and slick you can buff with just the red pad to lay out a VERY thin coat and allow it to dry.
most buffers pull under 15 amps, easy to use in the home. Some of the smaller ones pull 10 amps or less.

Nice method! I have never seen it done that way before. One question though, does the steel wool scratch the floor?
